Arete Family
Background
Originally established in Riverholm, Abington on Atamara, the Arete family derives its name from the Greek word meaning "virtue," or more specifically, "the excellence that makes anything an outstanding specimen of its kind, especially well fitted to its ends" (Nicomachean Ethics, trans. Joe Sachs, pg. 212).
While both Aeryn and Averyll are beginning to prove herself on the battlefield, the family has thus far done little to prove themselves worthy of their own name.
The family motto is Vincula de linguae vel tibi linguae dabit - "Lay restraint on thy tongue or thy tongue will lay it on thee". It is a maxim Aeryn struggles to live up to.
Fame
The Arete earned their first fame point when Averyll earned her 10th prestige point for retaking the Cave of Guilt from Sandalak on June 21st. Aeryn is very jealous.
