Redbald lost his father during his teenage years during the Gold Sea Conflict. He grew up together with his cousin Meginhard and accompanied him on many campaigns. After loosing against Luria Nova at Mimer, Redbald decided that Westgard's isolationaist attitude was wrong and left to the South Island where it was rumored there would be only war.

He joined Sandalak, where he received the Cave of Guilt. When Goldhammer Asher von Igerfeld required assistance in the western army, the position of Marshal was granted to Redbald.

While traveling to a small village in the mountains of Lesthem, he found the legendary Black Rose of Lucius Pemrose.
