The Training Academy of Perdan

A stilted chuckle emerged from the panting figure on the ground of the dusty training arena floor. The yellow-brown cloud of thrown up particles from the unexpected meeting of derrière and ground began to settle as the Imperator gladly grasped the forearm offered by his sparring partner to be lifted to his feet.

"By Leandra," Daario chuckled, cradling his neck in a hand, "you are turning into a fine duellist, Sir Dandro! Perhaps too fine..." He added with a smirk, soon wincing at one of the many pains inflicted upon his body in the enthusiasm of their training match. The Imperator stepped gingerly to the side of the arena and perched himself atop one of the benches that trace its edges and gestures for an attendant to bring tankards of weak ale for the two warriors.

Sir Dandro helped Lord Daario to his feet, before doing a flourish with the training sword as if being attacked by unseen enemies, Swinging one way and then the next in a flowing sweep designed to change the flow of an attack, pulling the practice blade back to his face Sir Dandro said.

"Thank you, my friend, we can not defend and help anyone with words alone. No ale for me thank you, water is fine thank you."

Walking over to the bench Sir Dandro looks at the attendant then at Lord Daario.

"How fairs the office of the Imperator, Have you given thought to what the future of Perdan looks like?"

Daario nodded politely to the young knight, waving off his retainer before they could place the cup of ale before Sir Dandro. He smiled at the knight's flourishing display, ever one to be impressed by a good swordsman's skill, but only ever impressed by a frivolous display when it could be backed up by martial prowess. The bruises that will no doubt soon litter his body were testament enough to that at least. The Imperator was entirely prepared and eager to discuss the first question Sir Dandro posed, for they had spoken at length over the past few weeks, with Sir Dandro temporarily being appointed to the role of Imperator by the King; but his following question ground Daario's mind to a halt. An unexpectedly deep question, the man's honesty is as true and unflinching as ever, the Imperator mused.

"I feel fortunate to have many wise voices on the War Council," Daario began earnestly, "it has not been long since I was a Vice Marshal under Viscount Marshal Ulric and my Marshalship of the Golden Lions saw no war."

He paused for a moment, his face faintly scrunching with what could be identified as anxious disquiet.

He spoke slowly and deliberately. "The next war will no doubt be a great test, not only for myself but for the very state of our realm, dear Dandro. The future I pray will be a return to what I saw as a boy, not so much a desperate need for unity amongst all quarters - I am sure you know well by now how impossible a task that may be in our fair realm - but a return to shared values. The knightly values of Perdan that were espoused by Kings and Queens past, values I believe and pray that His Majesty holds close to his heart, and values I know you hold dear."
