Events during the war with the Lich King.

Roleplay from Gavilius Velaryon
BESIEGED BY FIRE

"Fire away."

Szack!

Gavilius sighs as tens of flaming arrows are set loose from the walls of Alebad. The sight beneath the tall stronghold was devastating. Hundreds of blackened bones and rags laid around -- in the ditches that surrounded it and way out in the open fields -- as the carrion birds hopelessly circled around the mesh and piles of what were once human beings, angry that their feast was not to be. The Lich King had sent his legions forward, and they died in hundreds that quickly turned into thousands. But more were coming, as if the never-ending tide of blackness was unleashed, blackness that devoured and darkened the horizon.

Thump.

The arrows find their mark and the fire spreads quickly. Slowly, but then rapidly, the fires becomes larger and larger as it erupts into a gargantuan pyre that lights up the landscape and chases off the circling vultures. Gavilius reminds himself why this was necessary. These fallen dead were once living, then dead, then brought to life and now dead again. The power of the Lich King rested around his arcane abilities to reanimate or resurrect the corpses. It was best to ensure this can no longer be done and that the foes they defeated today will not fight them again tomorrow.

"Again. Burn them all." Gavilius whispers as another volley is set loose. As the flickering flames get larger and larger the burning smoke begins to fill his nostrils. Death smelled so terribly, but what terrified him more was that this was just the beginning. More will come. Many many more.

Roleplay from Gavilius Velaryon
Gavilius peered into the darkness from Alebad's walls. The night has fallen and the thickness seemed almost unnatural, as if everything around the city was covered by a black cape. The city was under siege for several days now and while it seemed like tomorrow will be a day of reprieve, the peasants and the traders have already abandoned their mundane jobs and retreated into the safety of the stronghold. The fields were empty, the crops were burnt, and only a few ships were still sailing away from Alebad's harbor.

After today, sinister thoughts began to pervade his already worried mind. The rumors of the Lich King and his Lieutenants gathering in Vir el Mari Heights would send shivers down any man's spine. However, what worried him more was the unusual change of movement that the last scouts brought in. The Lich King stayed his legions in Vir, as if in anticipation of an attack, and this didn't escape Gavilius' weary but sharp mind. Does this mean what he thought it might mean? Have the servants of the Republic already succumbed to the evil that spreads from the Arakir to a point where some of them might spy for the Lich King? He didn't know but this thought definitely occupied his mind. Perhaps he could devise a plan to confirm this suspicion, he pondered, but decided to leave to for some other day.

Then his thoughts began to wander down south, all the way to Oritolon, where Sploosh and his golems were spotted lurking in Naru Deserts. The southern defenses were weak, and depended almost solely on Governor Sevima's vigilance and perseverance. Sevima was a jewel amidst all this chaos that encircled the Republic. Her character and her charisma impressed Gavilius a lot, almost to a point where he was unsure if he began to grow feelings for her. But, obviously, this was not the time for romance.

As he retired to his private chamber Gavilius sat down and stared into the mirror. His face was weary and somewhat sunken. The next thought that entered his mind was the story about how he found himself to be where he now is. An adopted member of House Velaryon that is now in charge of the city's defense amidst the greatest threat that the Republic ever faced. He had doubts he was worthy of the legacy that great Monford entrusted him with. He had doubts that he will not make it and that he will fail. Behind the stone face he displayed in public, Gavilius feared. And it did not felt good.

As he threw himself on his bed, the last thought of this sinister night came to his mind, one that at this point was the least relevant to him. Tomorrow the elections for the Sword of the Republic will end and he appeared to be a certain winner. He was unsure if he should be considered lucky, or the greatest fool in Halcyon.

Tired and battered from several days of being under siege, Gavilius fell asleep.
