No elves?

Very confused (OOC) about the last October story of the Caligus newspaper. Does the journalist for that newspaper not realize that elves live in Sirion, or is he just in denial? Of course if he's delusional then that makes the newspaper's journalist all the more interesting of course ;-). FWIW, the The Elven Tribune has existed since Dec 2005 -- I'm assuming you know this OOC but that the journalist IC does not. Cheers, Corwyn 06:24, 5 November 2010 (CET)

I did know all that. Just the paper has been inactive for a long long time so its more or less been re-opened. Also elves offically cannot breed anymore by rule of the gods. Actually in my honest opinion in a game with no races you should be able to invent elves especially on characters that are old after 50 years. Elves live thousands of years and thats not possible in BM
Players can't create elven characters. That doesn't mean that the elven populace has stopped reproducing however. Players can't be monsters either, but that doesn't mean that they don't exist or don't reproduce. You might have read Facade Slaymaster's propaganda and thought it was true ;-). As for whether the elves in BM live thousands of years, I haven't seen any mention of that anywhere, but if you have any info on this I'd like to read it. Cheers, Corwyn 17:39, 9 November 2010 (CET)
To say that people in Sirion can't be elves because they live thousands of years is stupid. There are so many re-imaginations of what what elves are. I mean just look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elf . Should we also say the people in Sirion can't be elves because they don't live in the north pole and make toys? It's ridiculous to take one concept of Elves and say that is what the people in Sirion are instead of just allowing them to be their own imagination of themselves. If the people in Sirion didn't call themselves Elves but Gulogs, would people still have the same conception of them? Frankly, there is evidence that Elves in Sirion DO NOT live thousands of years. I have seen few roleplays in Sirion that make that suggestion, and since their abilities and time available to them decay just as quickly as any human we could assume they have a similar lifespan. Would it make people feel better if Sirion stops calling themselves Elves, but Humans with pointy ears? Because seriously, other than that, there is like no differences between the people in Sirion and the rest of the human races on the East Continent and frankly I find that a shame. The Battlemaster community seems to do whatever they can to ostracize any realm or group of people who do anything to try to make something unique for themselves. It's one of the biggest flaws of Battlemaster imo. Nobody can just let a group of people have fun without saying that it somehow ruins their experience. Most realms do absolutely no roleplay nor make any efforts to develop their culture. Those are the realms that should be hated, they bring no fun to Battlemaster whatsoever. They are just robotic wastelands of people in power doing whatever they can to keep that power and unfortunately that means playing it safe. Countless other realms are all direct facsimiles of each other developing themselves no further than the line "We are a realm that stands for honour!". Again we should be doing whatever we can to foster DIFFERENT, UNIQUE cultures within Battlemaster. That is what is going to keep the game fun. Right now I have one character in Sirion and while the culture there is really not all that special at least I can distinguish it from every other character's realm I have ever played in which are all almost exactly the same. The only exception to that would be what I had seen from the players of Thulsoma in Dwilight who have tried to distinguish themselves and their reward is having war declared on them from every Northern realm on the continent. All I can say is you all take article to heart too much. My article wont make a difference if they exist or not. At least it brings up an arguement which simply wont be settled and can get people to actually talk about something. If you dont want boredom you should understand controversial stuff make things funner. Last thing i'd like to add is claiming they are elves brings nothing unique except claiming they are. It really makes no difference and they dont do anything different then humans do. So unless battlemaster inputs different races and special features for each other its hardly an arguement that it makes then "unique" the small difference you will see is them forcefully describing themselves as elves in every RP to try and get the point across they are. - Courier
