were

Sorry, just a pet-peeve. "Where" is not a verb. It indicates a place, either literally or figuratively. "Were", on the other hand, is past tense of "are". While you were writing, you should have written "were" where you wrote "where".

Note that "are" and "were" can denote being at a place. They always denote a state of being. "Where" only stands in for a place, perhaps unknown. It is not a state of being. Example "Where were you?"

In many places in the world, these two words are pronounced differently, making it very hard to read a passage that has incorrect usage.--Slaadslayer 09:55, 18 June 2008 (CEST)
