Springdale (Realm)/The Tale of Two Brothers
This story is told by Dame Katrina Dragul.
Long ago, before the time of the three great realms, before the others came, and before the rebellion that made Springdale the Empire it is now, when the Giants were the only ones in this land, there were two brothers. Their names were Muspel and Nifel. They were twins, but they were as different as could be; Muspel was like fire and Nifel was like ice. They were the sons of Ymer and Hella. As they grew the differences in the boys was evident. Muspel had red hair and a fiery temper to match. He was quick to fight no matter the size of his opponent. Nifel on the other hand was dark and quiet and seemingly unaffected by the things that angered his brother. He was more often than not, the focus of his brother’s anger because of his calm nature. When the time came for them to strike off on their own, it surprised both Ymer and Hella that they decided to move together toward the heart of the land. They headed toward what is now Muspel and Muspelhiem, intent on settling there and raising families. It did not take long for the brothers to argue over many things, among them a beautiful dark haired woman of the area. Her name was Mariana, and both Muspel and Nifel fell madly in love with her. After much time Mariana chose Muspel and they were married. Muspel and Mariana founded the city of Muspelheim and it grew and prospered. I believe it eventually became the beginnings of a realm called Virovene. For some time Nifel remained with his brother, but as the arguments continued and grew worse, he finally tired of the battles and moved to the North; into the land that matched his temperament; cold and forbidding, where he could forge his own independent life. For a very long time he roamed the northlands, battling the creatures that inhabited the area. He finally met a beautiful woman named Belianzi. She was able to thaw the ice in Nifel’s heart and together they built the city of Nifelheim. In future generations it became the Kingdom of Nifel. I am unsure of the truth to these stories, as they are merely the lore of the old ones in Aegir’s Deep, but those who I spoke to in Nifel recently, who could remember the old lore, all told me the same story with only minor variations.
