THE SON MOTHER ALWAYS LIKED BEST

ROLEPLAY OF LARS' FUNERAL

.....near the lake in Daisha.

Leaning against a tree, Dingal sees Lord Gorblood approach from the lake.

“It is time Dingal.” he says.

“I don’t want to do this sir,” Dingal replies.

“None of us do, but it is time and you have some final things to do for a friend.” Lord Gorblood reminded.

Without another word the two walked silently towards the lake and the shore where a boat is moored. On a platform inside the boat is laid the body of Lars Solarin. He looked at peace, his hands across his chest, his right hand grasping his battle axe that was still stained with the blood of his final battle. Around the edge of the boat were more than 20 Sint shields taken from the bodies of Lars’s final BLOOD EAGLES.

Dingal looked around at the gathered crowd.....he and Lars had made many friends since coming to Old Grehk, and they had come to show their respects to the large happy Viking.

Dingal watched as a line formed. He watched as friends, warriors and locals filed past the boat where Lars was laid out in his armor. Some ladies kissed flowers and tossed them in the boat, other friends dropped mugs or flasks of mead and ale into the boat and still others quietly dropped unknown mementos as they passed.

Dingal finally stepped into the last of the line and walked up beside his friend for the last time. Looking down upon the face of the warrior that he had fought beside so much, he reached to his side and drew his sword. Gently he lifted Lars’s left hand and laid the sword beneath it.

“In case your axe fails you where you are going my friend.....take my sword.....I will miss you.....” Dingal said softly.

Turning, he stepped away from the boat and returned to the side of Marquis Gorblood. Without a word, Gorblood raised a hand and several men moved forward and pushed the boat out into the water. Slowly the boat moved from shore and out into the lake. Marquis Gorblood looked to an Old Grehkian archer who waited near the shore. With a nod, the archer dipped his arrow into the campfire beside him until flames erupted on the end of his arrow, and then drawing back he let the arrow fly after the boat. The archers practiced aim landed the arrow among the straw in the boat and quickly flames enveloped the ship as it moved out into the lake.

Dingal stepped forward once more towards the shore and spoke, “Friends there is one last thing to do...... 'Lo, there do I see my father. 'Lo, there do I see... “

Marquis Gorblood joined his voice with Dingals’s, “My mother, and my sisters, and my brothers.”

.....then Duke Laquam “'Lo, there do I see... “

....and King Lorgan added his voice, “The line of my people... “

....then Xaia “Back to the beginning.”

....And Aelwolf, “ Lo, they do call to me. “

....Jasper joined next “They bid me take my place among them.”

...then Destiney, “In the halls of Valhalla... “

...and Azer “Where the brave... “

....and then everyone in the crowd sang out, “May live...FOREVER!”

Dingal looked out at the sunrise reflecting on the lake. The flame from the boat seemed to be reaching up into the morning sky and as he watched, he could see the sunrise take on the color of the flames...

“Good-bye old friend.....” By Dingal of Old Grehk.

Letter from Aelwolf (1 day, 1 hour ago) Message sent to everyone in your realm (48 recipients) Although I did not know him, Lars faced the enemy bravely and lost his life in a battle the Valkyr would have been watching, so I am sure he awaits the arrivals of his his friends in Valhalla, where he feasts and fights even now.

Letter from Destiny (21 hours, 21 minutes ago) Message sent to everyone in your realm (47 recipients) As little as I knew LArs, I know he was a man of great courage, and I believe we should all mourn for one day maximum. For then we shall raise our heds, wipe our tears, and avenge his death! For we cannot let Sint think they have the upperhand on us, we shall take the fight to them, and let Lars watch down upoon us from Valhalla with a smile on his face.

Letter from Azer (18 hours, 31 minutes ago) Message sent to everyone in your realm (47 recipients)

Lars - you will be missed. I can only hope a relative of yours comes to avenge your untimely death.

Out-of-Character from Gorblood (15 hours, 19 minutes ago) Message sent to everyone in your realm (47 recipients) Well there goes lars... he was great for roleplaying with, let's hope his player creates an offspring here :)

Letter from Luquam (15 hours, 8 minutes ago) Message sent to everyone in your realm (47 recipients) His death is the saddest thing that happened to Old Grehk since I have arrived here it seems to me. He was my loyal vassal for many years, untill I decided to reward him with Verdomite. Then still, he stood by me when he could, and helped me with whatever I needed help with. Even yesterday, in my last note to him, I told him not to go to Haji, as even he couldn't take on the army of Sint on his own, and he replied me that only if he found a better route he'd arrive there. I was assured, as Lars was never a good pathfinder, and even on his route to Verdomite he got lost a couple of times. It seems his faster route has lead to his death.

He shall remain in my thoughts forever, and when I return to Vozzessdor, I shall build a monument, so that he will always be remembered here in Old Grehk, even long after we all have vanished from this world.

Luquam Duke of Vozzessdor

Letter from Suzune (10 hours, 18 minutes ago) Message sent to everyone in your realm (47 recipients) Lars was one of the first people to welcome me into this realm. I did not know him for very long, but during the time I did he made quite an impression on me. I enjoyed serving with him, and I am sure he will be happy (happier, if it's even possible) in whatever afterlife exists, if any. He will be missed.

Suzune Countess of Pomatim

Hail Shield Brothers and Sisters! I Lars Solarin have decided to leave hearth and home and follow in the traditions of our people and seek fame and honor in glorious battle! A Warrior must have a foe just as a blade must have a strong arm to wield it! Instruct me as to where I may bash our enemies to make it the most painfull! Strength and Honor Lars

the tall youth marches into the brothel flanked by his two Captains....

SLAYERS!!! TO ARMS! the youth bellows in voice seemingly out of place with his tall, lithe body. Several heads peek out of gauze screened doorways.

We finally got orders to march, so lets PULL OUT, its time to use your bigger swords!

with scattered cheers and quite a few curses the Slayers straggle out into the early morning light.

Ooohhhh! Are we suppose to be scared now or later! Horselovers and Tara-iers! Isn't that a "Dog and Pony Show"?

...on the cold dark street infront of "Sergi and Svens Seige Engines"....

The townwatch turns the corner and sees over thirty odd huddled forms asleep on the pavement. He sees a small field tent with a Lords Banner set up in the front yard of the siege works and approaches cautiously.

A tall youth hearing his approach ducks from under the tent and stands to his full height over topping the watchman by an easy foot.

"Yes what is it constable?" the young Lord asks the confused watchman.

"Oh yes M'Lord, well I was just wondering why you and your men weren't in one of the Inns or the barracks, Im sure you dont have to resort to livin in the streets." the man says by way of answer.

"Yes Im sure there are rooms left, but I am going to make sure I and my men get a Siege engine!" the Lord continues with a ferral look in his eyes, "You see we missed the last battle and by Odins' one good eye we WON"T miss the next one!"

The watchman takes a few steps back, looks around and replies with a shaky voice, "Very well M'Lord, good hunting, get those horselovers, I-I-I've got to be continuing my rounds now!" and with that quickly turns around and heads off more quickly than he came.

...outside "SERGI AND SVENS SEIGEWORKS" just after dawn...

The ponderous doors swing open and out rolls a beautiful new trebuchet! It rumbles to a stop on iron shod wheels in front of a tall Lord with a bag full of gold. Sven the shop owner seems startled to have a customer so early but says,

"How may I be of service this fine morning M'Lord?"

"I want it! Ill take it! Its beautiful, here!" Lord Lars gushes at Sven as he hands him the money. Sven knuckles his brow and goes back into the shop.

"SERGEANT A DETAIL OF MEN TO PULL MY NEW BABY!" Lars calls excitedly!"LETS MOVE IT WE HAVE PLACES TO TEAR DOWN AND PEOPLE TO KILL!

As the group of men begin heading out to the City towards Fiddleford, a strong voice singing happily disturbs the quiet mornig,"ITS MINE, ITS MINE, ITS MINE, BOULDERS IT THROWS TO BRING HORSELOVERS WOES, ITS MINE, ITS MINE, ITS MINE!" ....Outside Fiddleford.... The din of wagon and horse, the tramp of many shod and booted feet echo through the sleeping region. The long lines of troops dont stop only pass through on the way to the east.

I line of thrity-odd figures pulling a mighty trebuchet heads high eager to join in glorious battle! There leader raises his voice in prayer become song!

VIKING PRAYER

Lo, there do I see my father Lo, there do I see my mother and my sisters and my brothers Lo, there do I see the line of my people back to the beginning

Lo, they do call to me They bid me take place among them in the Halls of Valhalla Where the brave may live forever..

His men take up the call! Battle is coming! Vengence is coming! The Vikings are coming! Woe to all lovers of horses!

I always amazes me how 1000 or so troops and siege engines improves peoples vision! "Its like well I dont see how we are at fault here!" Then you march up your men, roll up the trebuchet and rams, and suddenly they are like, "Oh well, perhaps we were a bit hastey there!" Or "Well yes now that you put it that way I see your point exactly!" It's all just a matter of perspective!
