The Republic

A private roleplay that occurred in (October 2020) in Sirion city, just prior to Micah's first re-election bid, between Prime Minister Micah and Lady Clara, a trader and courtier of Sirion.

Scene 1 - Arrival

Soft pink hues filled the sky above Sirion City as the sun inched toward the horizon. In a gentle decrescendo the echo of city life was nearing the finale, the silence of night. Clara stood before the entrance to the grand palace. She straightened her plain forest green dress before she entered. The meeting with the Prime Minister was set, ready to unfold; her veil of seclusion lifted from within the comfort of the shadows.

Clara's light brown hair clung to the back of her head, neatly curled in a simple bun. Braided bangs framed her face which seemed to always contain a shrewd expression. In the low glow of candle light, with the benefit of an emerald necklace camouflaged by the green clothing, her hazel eyes became prominent. By no means was the young dame considered beautiful, in fact many would proclaim her to be plain, but with her fair complexion and the circumstance of the scene, there was an almost deceptive appearance of attractiveness.

Every step resonated through the halls at a steady tempo as Clara made her way to the Prime Minister's chambers. Before long she had found herself before the guards. The arrival of Clara was not unexpected and they hastily let her into the chambers before closing the doors.

On the eve of the election, shortly before campaigning would begin, the pair met to discuss topics of electoral interest and the future. Secrecy was not a necessity, only an environment for candid speech. Prior to such topics as these, introductions and pleasantries would take place.

Scene 2 - The Welcome

Late in the afternoon, the Prime Minister of Sirion was pacing in his chambers. He knew he had an important meeting upcoming, one that could alter the path forward for the realm. He glanced over at the table, filled with the books he had spent all day reading; the Royal Library was full of books that have been written by legends such as Doc and Ecthelion.

His stomach grumbled, and Micah immediately recognized that dinnertime was approaching, as were the footsteps of his visitor. He walked over towards the door, gently resting his has on the back of the chair. The doors opened, and Micah was surprised to see Lady Clara step through into the chamber, like a sparkling emerald, bringing back memories of a time spent in Valinor....

As if just awakening from a reverie, Micah said, "W-Welcome, Lady Clara, i-it is great to see you. Dio come in, please, have a seat. I'll have one of my men stoke the fire to keep out the winter chill. Would you like a glass of Elven wine? I have access to many vintages, all you have to do is name your favorite and we can share it."

Micah instinctively pours two glasses of wine, always a semi-sweet red wine, a deep crimson red. He hands a glass to Lady Clara and for a split second, he was struck by the contrast of the wine with the emerald color of Clara's outfit. He felt a strong pressure in his chest, as if there was great significance in that moment; and then it was gone.

The conversation unfolded, discussing the usual, weather, recent travels, inquiries of family, and of course the usual jokes about the bankers and their bonds. As those topics naturally began to fall off, Micah stood up and added a few more logs to the fire, and the room got a little brighter, and the shadows began to dance more now that darkness had fallen outside into a cool winter's night.

Staring into the fire, Micah then decided to push forward. "Lady Clara, I believe there is a topic that has been on your mind for some time now. Allow me to pour another round of wine and let's get into it, shall we?"
