The Long Journey
Part I

Some days ago...

Yeux had made a decision. He would travel to the north in search of a new life and of new adventures. The religiosity of Morek didn't please him, but he was willing to hear some Priests and make a decision. The future was unexpected.

In the first day he found a good scribe. The man knew how to read and write and he said that have served as cavalry soldier before having one of the arms disabled in combat. He was merchants' son and had received a good education. Yeux needed somebody that know the languages of the commoners in the several and different regions of Morek and the old soldier, now a scribe, would be very useful. The soldiers had received dark cloaks for the travel. In the city Yeux also found a good healer. The travel was just beginning. They marched to Donghai, a short travel to the rural district near of the city.

The group marched and stopped in Donghai to buy provisions. Yeux bought great part of the food in farms along the road. The green farms contrasted with the blue eyes of the hero. He felt a stranger peace of spirit when negotiating with the farmers. Humble people. The hero sent the new scribe to the village with some coins to hire three good scouts and a banner. He also asked so that they made black flags with the red symbol of the serpent. The group was complete and had now the aspect that Yeux wanted. Now they were a competent military unit. He had the best infantry soldiers of Morek under his leadership. Then they marched to Bohai.

Yeux followed a road from where he could see clearly the sea and Stratford's peninsula. The people always looked at him with some distrust, he was completely different in the physical aspect. But Yeux knew how to count histories and he stop to importuning some fishermen to buy fresh fish that later would be salted so that it was conserved during the travel. The climate was pleasant and they continued marching until a farm in the border with White Plains. In the farm the soldiers slept at the stable while Yeux and the scribe had dinner with the family. The hero insisted on dividing the food and on that night they ate a good fish stew with potatoes. The next morning when they leave, the farmer's daughter gave to Yeux a necklace with a red star of wood. A simple gift to bless the journey of the group.

During the afternoon they arrived in White Plains. A pleasant surprise. Yeux discovered there the pleasures of the delicious drink that the people called White Ale. The hero bought a great amount of the drink and during the march he allowed the soldiers drink and sing while they went down along River Nifel to Mt. Black Nastrond. Until then they resisted the winter very well, but the dark mountain promised new challenges. The cold punished the group and the scouts had a lot of work in finding the best roads. They used Black River as reference on a side and of the other the shade of the mountain. The people of the mountain were a good example of the cold winter and of the austerity of the dark mountain. The pure water of the mountain froze in the throat and maintained the soldiers sober until they arrive in Nifel, stepping for the first time in the territories of Summerdale.

Now Valkyrja was not very far, but the group would find new challenges in wild regions populated by monsters and savage beasts. The journey would continue...
