Military Mobility vs. Management Skills

Henrich was pleased with his choice. His stay in Atamara had taught him lessons on the battlefield and had given him a deep scar as a reminder that he was still too young to cultivate the arrogance of his relatives. He has been tested and discovered quickly that Atamara had nothing to imprison his spirit. The promises of recognition were far and he felt that his hunger for experience would not be satisfied there. Following the old diaries of Yeux Serpentis, Dwilight seemed perfect for his aspirations.

The young Eyolf would like to see Averoth, the rebellious colony founded by his relative. Still sailing the oceans he knew by the old captain that the realm no longer existed, and then Henrich had to be pleased with the latest stories about the Averoth’s foundation and the humiliation of the Judge of Morek and Lady Allison. A woman of undoubted reputation and power. She certainly found a snake more skilled than her. But Yeux left Dwilight and Averoth disappeared like a dream that couldn’t last. Henrich wanted to start a story and gathering information along his travel, the ports of Asylon seemed perfect for him. A kingdom in expansion with fertile lands to the south and north. A good place to begin.

The first weeks were difficult. He established himself as the Lord of Kid’s Rock and chose a beautiful property with a great view of the sea. However he had no time to enjoy his new home. With sixty-five well-trained soldiers those first weeks were quite busy with long travels on bad roads, visiting lands without claims to put there the Asylon’s flag. Henrich took the opportunity to read the old military diaries of his father. Heavy leather covers protected the old diaries of Yeux and before leave Atamara he had received a magnificent exemplary: a book covered with fine silver leaves written in two languages, one of them completely unknown. A political and military diary from Avamar, the city of Erik Eyolf Serpentis, his most prominent and strange relative. An incredible book with very useful information.

Henrich Eyolf: “I hope not to face problems with the Duchess of Itau. According to these diaries, her family and an entire clan were banished from Sirion in a single night…”

Captain Admund: “And yesterday you made your second complaint about the taxes, M’Lord...”

Henrich Eyolf: “What can I do? I'm young, but not stupid. My father was not only a Legendary Hero. He was also a High Lord, Lord Justice and especially Lord Gold for a long time. I grew up learning about the administrative concepts. And this book is amazing! This Erik Eyolf is a great leader!”

The Captain had sent the scouts in short missions and enjoyed to use a horse to follow Henrich. The two held a slow pace while the soldiers marched behind them. They pacified Wallershire and attached Vyanar. However, Henrich had no reason to be accommodated.

Henrich Eyolf: “Our borders have been expanded in a heartbeat and the King's concerns are justified. All these new lands will need a long time to be productive. I hear the nobles talking about gold, but I asked twice and was solemnly ignored. Luckily my family is rich, but they will not continue sending gold to keep our troops. And now I have this amazing book in my hands... a book that explains in details a perfect system to distribute the wealth of a kingdom in times of war. Did you know that they won a war against five enemies? Five!!! It’s too much information. And here we limit ourselves to conquer new lands, but the administration of these acquisitions is imperfect. I would even say that here we simply don’t have a system. I don’t remember a single word of our Banker about all these 'problems'. I feel I could help much more...”

Captain Admund: “You’re young, M’Lord. I’m sure they will recognize your efforts.”

Henrich huffed along with his horse. He read the diaries of his old father and about the wanderings of Yeux. But the last book was special. He had never seen an author so incredibly arrogant and victorious. Erik should be an impressive character. Yeux and Erik were Dukes. They had made the world to kneel before their desires. Henrich could only grumble and wait for better days.
