The Bastard Son Shall Inherit the Lands
Part II

Montijo, few years ago...

A scream erupted at night. Sweat and tears. A woman writhing on the bed. The midwife calm and serene wet a cloth in the water and tried to wipe the forehead of the young pregnant woman. But the screams would wake the neighbors who were waiting in anguish. They knew that the fruit of sin will be born that night. They had witnessed the presence of the Silver Dragon some months ago. They saw the belly grow. They advised her to wipe out the sin before it claims the life inside the womb. But the dragon's son was stronger than everything. And that night he would abandon the darkness to see the full moon.

Hours were distressing. But in the end, her spread legs celebrated the life. The old midwife brought the child to the light and everyone listened outside the victorious cry of a small child.

Old Midwife: "He's a boy... the strongest I have seen birth and brought to the light"

Mother: "He's mine. My son..."

Old Midwife: "You have a name to him?"

Mother: "Yes... but let me see him. Let me embrace him. Let me fell him. He's my boy! My little boy!"

The mother hugged and involved the little one. And the child sought to silence the crying in a breast to fed and satiate his hunger. Blood, sweat and tears. The son of a dragon had prevailed. The mother saw his bright blue eyes and sang in a whisper his first lullaby.

You're one in a million

You've got to burn to shine,

But you were born under a bad sign,

With a blue moon in your eyes.

Montijo, the Southern Invasion

A flag fluttered on the Montijo ground. As Sirion, Erik Eyolf Serpentis was victorious in those lands. He had marched there holding courts and talking to the people while many others were hanged alongside the roads. Sometimes good examples had to tread tortuous and painful paths. He still had the soul of a Cavalier and cry in his soul, but he also recognized the war needs to conquest and establish the pillars of Sirion sovereign over defeated enemies. And that morning, crossing the fields to destroy the fortifications of Al Amarah, he reminded:

Erik Eyolf: "There’s a red house over yonder. That’s where my baby stays..."

Alone, he abandoned the Stormwalkers and stared at the vastness of the farms where the rebel people prevailed. He was not afraid. Under the banner of Sirion, he was the Judge of that the people and before that he was the conquering warrior. The Silver Dragon blessed by Elune. And he had the key.

Erik Eyolf: "Well, I ain’t been home to see my baby... in five years and one half day..."

And Erik walked up to the house he had visited five years ago. The red mark that he had painted on the door was still there. That was the house he sought. He took the key he had saved and tried to open the door.

Erik Eyolf: "Wait a minute, something's wrong here. The key won't unlock the door. I have a bad bad feeling that my baby don't live here no more. I might as well go on back down. Go back 'cross yonder over the hill. I might as well go back over yonder. Way back over yonder 'cross the hill. That's where I came from. 'Cause if my baby don't love me no more, I know her sister will..."

Acknowledgments

Erik was a victorious warrior. He had fought in the north and south. He had stepped in Viseu and returned to the lands of Fontan to continue with the conquest. He thanked the great men like those who fought in the victorious armies and the General Ryu who had presented him with such victories. He thanked his friend Romul for heard his harsh words when Sirion thought about a coward peace. He thanked Meristenzio for being a great General in the past and for be the best Prime Minister that the realm had been. And although he didn't like some of the old Dukes, they also had their value, like Sir Alain that kept the trading agreements with the friendly realms. The entire hierarchy that allowed him to be the best Judge after Duke Alexander and certainly the greatest warrior that had grown in Sirion lands. And silently in his prayers he thanked the best Captain of Sirion. Captain Karl had guided the Stormwalkers like no other man would do, even with the victorious advances of Captain Andre.

And with these convictions, Erik Eyolf stepped again in Al Amarah, home of his honored enemy. The best Judge that Fontan knew: Sir Duncan Atreides.
