K-nighthood 101

Welcome to the Ranks of Nobility.

Having left the family home, you have decided to make your way in the great wide world that we live in. If you're reading this, then you have decided to start in the great nation of the Ash Sea Islands (ASI). We are a proud nation that has a long and rich history. I am here to give you a few of the basic guidelines that you may find useful. As always, if you have any questions on stuff I haven't covered here, just ask me.

(meep)

"Hush you...I'm teaching...sorry...don't mind her."

RULE NUMBER ONE: If you don't know...ask. Nobody will give you grief if you need to ask for help, or aren't certain what you should do or where you should be. This is the most important rule in my book. I've been here for quite some time and I'm still asking questions all day long. Granted, they are usually questions like "Who's buying the next round?" but you get the general idea.

RULE NUMBER TWO: More of a suggestion than a rule. You should always try to get to know your realm mates and brothers (or sisters) in arms. You have your actual family, but we're your family too. It always bugs me when people join the ranks of nobility of our realm and then just sit there, lurking. Come on, have a drink and let us know about yourselves!

RULE NUMBER THREE: Following orders is key. If you're part of an army, and that army gets orders to go somewhere or do something, be sure to follow the orders. Everybody is counting on everyone else so we can help our friends and ourselves. If you can't do what is needed, then just let your Marshal and your liege know.

(OOC: I'm not saying you have to always log in and you have to do this and you have to do that...if you can't always log in, it happens. But if you can let people know, they'll know you're not just ignoring orders and sucking up gold. Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, Real Life can get in the way (grin))

RULE NUMBER FOUR: You can decide what job you want to do. If you want to be a k-night, be a k-night...if you want to be a bureaucrat...be a buro...if you want to be a trader......you get the general idea. Your life is your choice. However, I would suggest that you talk to your liege and your realms rulers if you are looking to change your Class. If a realm has too many buros, it can actually hinder how well the realm does. If a realm has enough traders, there may not be anything for you to do if you become one. Nobody can tell you what Class to be, but certain people have a better idea of the 'big picture' than others may.

RULE NUMBER FIVE: Again, more of a suggestion rather than a rule. Have Fun!!! Yes, we're all nobles...and yes...we're all supposed to be responsible and dutiful and the like...but if you don't learn to laugh and have fun...you're going to be pretty grumpy. Have a drink, have a party...laugh and live.

Getting Started

Okay, when you join a realm, there are a few things you should do to get started.

  • First off: Introduce yourself to your liege and your marshal. It's polite and if they have any special instructions for you, they can let you know. Also, it will give them the chance to assign you to an army.
  • Second Off: Money: When you first join a realm, you'll get started with money given to you from your family wealth. You'll get some more money on the 3rd day in the realm and then even more on the 7th day. After that, you're on your own. This is where your oath to your liege comes into effect: See Chapter 2 and Chapter 7 for more details on this.
  • Third Off: Head to your capital and recruit some troops and get some paraphernalia. I've included a bunch of tips regarding units and recruitment under Chapter 1, so you can look there too. But don't spend all your money on recruiting and buying. You're going to need some of that gold for training and paying your soldiers.

Chapter 1: Your Unit : Tips, suggestions and information on the soldiers you can and will lead.

Chapter 2: Class/Politics : What you can do and who you can do it for.

Chapter 3: Actions : What you can do for yourself.

Chapter 4: Orders : What you can do for your soldiers/unit.

Chapter 5: Travel : Where you're going and how you get there.

Chapter 6: Combat : Fighting....yum yum fun!!!!

Chapter 7: Taxes and Money : Gold Gold Gold...gimme gimme gimme.
