Mossy Family

Introduction

Greetings XXXXXX !

Welcome in the great republic of Oritolon ! My name is Abraham Mossy, an Undead slayer. You won’t regret your mentor choice, my friend !

First of all, I encourage you to introduce yourself in the realm (click on message, then select message all players of the realm)

The first think you need to know about us, is that we are a republic ! Opinion of each troop leaders count ! So don't be shy to oppose to an idea, but do it with a friendly way. That means never insult someone in the realm.

Here is the four lessons you will have to study :

  • The chain of command - realm hierarchy, general and ruler
  • Recruitment and maintenance of units
  • Basic combat tactics
  • Unit settings

The first thing you need to know is there are only one turn each day. You can see the server time when you connect on one of your character, at top of the character sheet. You should try to play every turn, but if you can't, nobody will blame you. We all have a social life and we know that sometime we can't log. However, you should inform the council (prime minister, general, banker and judge) that you won't be very active for a certain period of time. If you really can't play for 1 week or more, you can pause one or more of your characters.

Lesson 1 : The chain of command

It's the most important thing to know when you join a realm ! You can see this information in the Ruler Bulletin (Information – Ruler Bulletin).

Prime Minister - Loki. Handles diplomatic issues

Justicar/Executor - Alec. Preserves justice among nobles and commoners

Minister of Defense - Juliette. Handles the military affairs

Minister of Finance - Abraham. Keeps production at high levels

Duke of Oritolon - Ned. Handles Oritolon infrastructure

Count of Windaria - Cleatus

Count of Iglavik - Erisha

Count of Gretzen - Jacque

Count of Sovonoval - Galadriel

Count of Narrowdep - Hawkmoon

Strict laws of the realm

-Don't travel in enemy territories without permission. If you do, your troops will attack or be attacked by the enemy troops.

-NEVER LOOT, unless the general or the prime minister order it. If you loot without permission, you can be banned of the realm.

-Do not Hang/arrest rebel or do police raids unless you are told to do so. Perhaps you do not understand what that means, but sometime you will have this option in the Orders section.

-All tax income you received is realm gold, which requires hard work of Homeland Security to obtain. You are expected to spend it in realm-related purposes and not to fatten your family purse.

To finish you first lesson, here is your homework: go read all the bulletins in the "Information" button. You should always read it when you join a realm. It informs you about the laws, the chain of command, our war general and banker recommendations.

Lesson 2 : Recruitment and maintenance of units

Essential tips when you recruit new troops

- You can only recruit troop in Oritolon.

- You need to know if you can pay your men for 1 week or more : Click on the hint link at the very right of the name of the troop you want to recruit. It will tell you how many weeks you will be able to pay your troops if you recruit 10, 20 or more. It is very important to have cash to pay your mens for at least 1 week (and 2 weeks in time of war, if you need to stay a lot of time in a region, far from a city !)

- Recruit troop that fit with the ones you already command. If you have 20 archers, recruit archers. If you have Infantry, recruit infantry. Etc. You also need to recruit troop with the same % of training. Why ? Here is an example : you have 20 archers with 20% training. You want to recruit 10 more archers, but you don't know what kind of archers to buy at the recruitment center : 10% training, 25% training and 35% training. First of all, never recruit troop that have lower % training than yours because it will lower their training (if you don't have the choice, it's ok !!). Never recruit troops with training % too high because the new troops will lose this high training %, so you'll have wasted more gold for nothing. So the choice is the 25% because it's more close to your 20% training.

Money saving tricks

- Pay scout every 8-9 days. They won't charge more than 1 gold anyway.

- Pay healers every 2 days costs 1 gold per payment. That means you pay 5 gold for 10 days.

- Pay your men roughly every 5 days if you have the gold, and if you're low on morale. Every 7 days is better if the morale is not an issue.

Troops stats

Training It indicate how experienced are your troop. Low trained troop don't know how to fight and will be less efficient on the battlefield.

You can raise it by training them (Orders - Training) and by fighting directly on the battlefield.

Equipment quality

The more high, the better are your men on the battlefield... but it can be very expensive to recruit troops with high equipment %. If they all die in their first fight... money wasted :) Some like to recruit men with high equipment % because they know they will command them for a long time. Others like low equipment for a cheaper cost because they don't care about loosing them. Once you have troops with X % equipment, you can't raise it.

Equipment damage

- You can repair the equipments of your men if you visit a region with an armory.

- You can steal armours and weapons from dead corpses on the battlefield after an important battle.

Morale

Very, very, very important stat, my student ! You should ALWAYS look at this stat. High morale troops can make all the difference ! Will they fight to dead or flee like chickens ? If the morale of your troops drops too low (15% and lower), they can desert you ! The rumour will spread and you will lose one point of honour.

How to rise morale ?

-Give them rest. It cost nothing but it won't rise it a lot. If they don't like to wait, morale won't rise, it can drop.

-Visit a city. There are more chance that your mens enjoy to visit the city, so morale will rise.

-Pay them entertainment. The best way to rise their morale, but the most expensive. Use it when morale is 60% and lower (if you have the time to do it, because in time of war, you always need to move).

-Pay them ! Like every human, your mens like cash. When they receive their money to serve you, they are happy, so morale rise :) You can pay them manually through "Order", but there is an automatic way to do it. Click on "Paperwork" to see the setting of your troop. It will show you the delay between every pay. You should set it to 7 days.

Cohesion

Are your men like to be together ? Will they help each others or flee ? When you recruit a fresh new unit, soldiers in it don't know each others. They are here to fight, and they don't want to. With time, cohesion will rise. Almost every fight will bring them closer. Sometime, if you pay them some entertainment, cohesion will rise a lot (you need to find what kind of entertainment they like, every unit is unique).

Buy Paraphernalia For every 30 men or less, you should buy one banner and one healer (when in a city, click on order, buy paraphernalia).

Lesson 3 : Unit setting

You can see and change your unit setting through "Paperwork" section. You should always look at your General's orders. He/she will give unit setting for Infantry, archers, mixed infantry and cavalry. Is it important for an army to be structured !

What kind of unit do you control ?

Army : normal war unit

Police : gain the option "Police work"

Vanguard : Fast attacking unit. Use it to travel in an enemy territory. Very bad to defend own land.

Sentry : Slow defensive unit. Use it to protect own land. Never use it to attack an enemy territory.

If you have paid your men this turn, you can change this setting, otherwise, you can't.

Here is a scrip that you should study : http://old.battlemaster.org/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=StrategyTroopSettings

Lesson 4 : combat tactic

Scouting Every turn a realm need to know if the enemy is moving near or into his borders, so the commander can change his strategy and give new orders. Scouting a region only takes 1 hour, as you debrief the scout afterward! Never hesitate to scout a region that was not scouted this turn. Active scouting players are always loved by the council members !

You can recruit scouts wherever there is a scout guild. Click on "Orders", then on "Buy Paraphernalia...", to see if you can buy one in this region.

When you scout one or more regions, all information is written by your scribe. It is very important to inform everyone in the realm. You find those notes through "Information", then "Scribe notes". Copy the notes (select it with your mouse, then ctrl+c) and send it to all players (ctrl+v in the message box).

Misdirecting Sometime, it is very useful to fool the enemy. You can pretend to travel to another region, but finally you stay at your original location !

How can you do it ? Click on "Travel", then choose the region you want to pretend to go, then click on "Misdirect"

Healers You should always recruit one healer per 30 mens you own. So, if they get wound in a battle, your healer will be able to save their life ! Also, you will return more faster in the game if your character get wounded !It cost nothing to recruit, but you need to pay them 5 gold per week (for one).

Where can you recruit one ? Click on "Orders", then on "Buy Paraphernalia..."

Carts

Used to transport wounded soldiers, so you aren't retarded by them. If you can afford it, buy one or two, but it's up to you.

Banners If your troops are infantry or mixed infantry, buy one banner for every 30 men you have. (Note that you can buy one if you have archers, but it's less useful.) What does a banner do ? It regroups your troops ! So if they won't go everywhere on the battlefield and loose cohesion ! It also increase the morale of your mens and the entire army ! Morale is sometime a key to win a fight !

Where can you buy one ? Click on "Orders", then on "Buy Paraphernalia..."

How to fight Undead and Monsters ?

When Undead or Monsters attack a region, the better way to eradicate them is to fight behind the walls. So you should always set your troop setting to defensive and in box formation.
