House of Lords,

Let us move on.

Religious Freedom.

Though I am a prophet of Lux Nova, I stand by nobles and freemen worshipping freely. This has always been law, but I'm pushing it since we're discontinuing the Imperial Code of Law and I'm trying to be thorough.

Dear Good Kenneth,

I agree with formalizing religious freedom. However, I believe there is a need to clarify what exactly religious freedom entails.

Religious freedom can be broadly categorized into two aspects: freedom of worship and non-discrimination.

However, it is important to discuss further whether religious freedom should encompass the acceptance of all religions. If we allow for the acceptance of all religions, there is a possibility that it may also include pseudo-religions or daimon worship.

Additionally, we should address how to handle situations where a particular religion becomes hostile or discriminatory towards Luria Nova. Even if we value religious freedom, if a specific religion acts hostile or discriminates against Lurians, we might need to consider implementing sanctions based on the principle of reciprocity.

Lords,

The matter of Sanguine Astroism has already been spoken of earlier in the year. The church has acted with hostility more than once, but at this point I see no reason to forbid it.

Damion worship should not be tolerated at all.

As for what religious freedom means, maybe we should hear from the Lords?

We should perhaps ask everyone what religious freedom means.

As I have stated previously, allowing every religion or faith is not the answer. Perhaps we should come up with a list of officially recognized religions?

Perhaps the question should be that what we can do as a secular organisation about lords converting to a newfound faith. I do not see why this should be dissallowed unless the religion is actively bad for the serfs inhabiting our realm. I can see that in Daemon worshipping, but religions are free to spout up whenever they please in Luria Nova.

Earl Richard brings up a great point. Priests of any faith that stir up religious violence should be prosecuted, I also Believe it should be illegal to do the same in another realm if you're a priest from Luria Nova.

Honorable Members of the House of Lords,

Please accept my apologies for my recent absence from this esteemed group. I needed some time off to recuperate after organizing the significant event. Now that I am feeling rejuvenated, let us revisit our most recent discussion.

Based on the consensus reached, it appears that we are in agreement regarding the prohibition of daimon worship. Furthermore, Richard proposed extending this restriction to any religion that promotes violence. Kenneth emphasized the importance of holding priests accountable, even if they are from Luria, should they incite violence.

Regarding the founding of new religions, Jan expressed a stance of allowing all, while I respectfully differ in opinion. I propose a more cautious approach, allowing only pre-approved religions to be founded. This would entail seeking the approval of the lords of the Ascendancy before establishing a new religion. The tenets and doctrines of the proposed religion would undergo thorough review to ensure it is not a daimon worship in disguise. As we have witnessed in the past and present, some religions have hidden their true nature, making it challenging to extricate them once deeply rooted. To safeguard Lurian society, it is imperative that we scrutinize any new religion to ensure it is not malevolent before permitting its incorporation into our way of life.

So do we agree that before founding a religion, the founder should get the house's approval first?

Ah, I understand your point now. I agree; it does seem fair. It wouldn't make much sense for just one person to apply without having others to join and start a religion together.

Esteemed Members of the House of Lords,

To ensure clarity on our discussions thus far, let us recap the key points:

  1. Daimon worship shall be strictly prohibited.
  2. Religions promoting violence shall not be permitted.
  3. The process of founding a new religion necessitates the involvement of three nobles to initiate the approval process within this esteemed house. Subsequently, the majority consent of the house is required for final approval.
Let me know if I am missing anything. I wonder if we should also make it mandatory for the existing religions to go through the approval process within this house as well.

Priests contributing to religious violence will be prosecuted for actions inside and outside the realm.

I think this should be added on top of #2 on the list. A faith may not always support the actions of their priests, I think this should be clear on both levels. Faiths outwardly promoting violence and priests acting alone promoting violence will be punished. I say this due to my time in SA, there was a lot of free interpretation of their rules. Clarity is everything.

If one declares war upon a man or woman who is a priest and as a consequence cannot or barely can lead soldiers into battle, he will seek other ways to handle the responsability of being at war and people will expect him to do something of value. Religious violence is the answer to that, and you may dislike it however much you want. A man does not have to forsake his duties to his beliefs to cause havoc and mayhem, especially if you advance into his or her realm.

I can agree with both the rules that Heliacal Wassgandr and Magistrate Kenneth have thusfar posted, if one considers that a priest at war is in accordance with his or her realm taking hostile faith actions against the other realm.

House of Lords,

Do we all agree to the following?

  1. Daimon worship shall be strictly prohibited.
  2. Religions that incite violence, either within or against Luria Nova, shall not find a foothold within our borders.
  3. The process of founding a new religion necessitates the involvement of three nobles to initiate the approval process within this esteemed house. Subsequently, the majority consent of the house is required for final approval.
  4. Priests shall be permitted to support Luria Nova during wartime, utilizing "auto da fe" and other appropriate means to serve our realm's interests.
If we don't have anything else to add, I will start a referendum to get it passed.
