Joppo lost

February 1

After several years of brave battling and defence, Joppo has eventually lost its war against its attackers when it was taken over by Mesh. Of the Duchy that once involved Lanngetti, Suuk and Kraake apart from Joppo City, the city was the only region left in the Theocracy of Joppo, after Lanngetti was already taken over by Mesh earlier, and Suuk and Kraake had declared their independence. A long war of claims has now been finished, and the reign of Joppo has been sadly ended. (MTS)

New Duke of Tahgalez

February 2

Earlier this day, Mao Tse Tung has stepped down from his Dukeship in Tahgalez. King Scion the Skilled was there to appoint Royal Treasurer Medium as the new Duke of Tahgalez, accompanied by the following message:

"For his excellent service, dedication, and going beyond the call of any noble, I have now annointed Sir Medium as the Duke of Tahgalez. He has done a fine job in managing our food stuffs and taxes, not to mention the roughly 1000 gold his family has donated, making them the second highest donator of gold to our cause (my own family having donated the most).

For these acts of his loyalty and service, I have made the only exception thus far to the "One noble, One position" rule that I liketo abide by.

And to Lord Mao, I would like to thank you for keeping your word. I promise you that you will get what I promised you. Just as I promised Medium. It just may take a little time. But if you remain, and you stick with your loyalties, I am a man of my word, and you will have what you wish."

At last Mao has realised that one cannot just turn his back to a foreign ruler, twice, and expect that to be forgotten easily. Medium now takes his place.(MTS)

Regions taken over by foreign realms

February 4

Today, two regions were conquered by foreign realms. This morning, the Democratic realm of Mesh has taken over the rogue region Suuk, formerly part of the Theocracy of Joppo, and in the afternoon the our fellow federation members of the Kingdom of Irombrozia have taken over Rii, formerly part of the Republic of Riombara.

With these new annexations, Mesh now controls 14 regions, whereas Irombrozia controls 4. (MTS)

Riombara takes Mio Dupaki

February 6

This afternoon, the news reached us that the Republic of Riombara has taken over Mio Dupaki. By taking this Townsland from the Democratic realm of Luz de Bia, Riombara has thus separated the city of Grehk from the rest of the lands of Luz de Bia, making it a vulnerable target in the future for Riombaran attempts to take the old city. (MTS)

Vice destroyed!

February 9

After Arch Priest Kagurati initiated a Takeover of Vice's last region Watersdown, yesterday afternoon, more forces of Heen entered Watersdown in the evening to support the annexation of the last region that was claimed but not held by Heen. This morning, only half a day after the initiation, the villagers of Watersdown decided after a council that they had enough of the powerless Vice and the continuous starvation, and so they joined the Kingdom of Heen instead, hoping for a better treatment and something to eat. Immediately Royal Treasurer Medium sent food to Watersdown, and the nobles present in Watersdown started working on the reparation of it.

At last the last region of Vice has returned to its rightful owner, and as far as it wasn't yet after the duchies of Latlan and Tahgalez had joined Heen, the civil war of the deserts as now officially over and won by the Kingdom of Heen.(MTS)

Mesh and Vlaanderen enlarged

February 9

This morning, two near realms have enlarged their territories. First our neighbour Mesh' Democratic government took over the formerly rogue region Kraake, enlarging their amount of regions to 15. Afterwards, also the Monarchy of Vlaanderen grew another region, by completing the Takeover of Worvobaen, formerly part of the Democracy of Plergoth, cutting off Cwellndell from the rest of Plergoth. Vlaanderen now controls 7 regions, whereas Plergoth's territory is reduced to 8 regions.(MTS)

Watto joins Heen

February 10

If one would look at the latest evolutions in the southwest of Beluaterra, he would only be able to conclude that the Kingdom of Heen is by far the most popular realm in Beluaterra. A few weeks ago both the Duchies of Latlan and Tahgalez joined Heen, the takeover of Hcallow afterwards went smoothly, and when the takeover of Watersdown was started the day before yesterday, Watersdown joined Heen the day afterwards. This morning another region has decided to join Heen. Apparently due to unhappiness about the government of Sint, the peasants of Watto have decided to no longer wish to be a part of Sint, and to join Heen instead.

The territory of Heen already includes eleven regions, which is far more than a few weeks ago when it was limited to Heen City and Ling. By this switching of allegiance of Watto to Heen, it is coincidentally cooperating to Heen's ultimate goal: uniting the desert lands under the banner of Heen. Optimists would say: only four more regions to go! (MTS)

Region stolen

February 10

Tonight, only hours after Watto had joined Heen, Ashborn has once again unvealed its true nature. An Ashbornian noble named Zyrthos has bribed the local government officials to announce him as the new Baron of Watto. By this, Watto was once again taken away from Heen and brought under the banner of Ashborn. Falangists have started a guerrilla-war in Watto against the occupiers, and will do everything that is in their might to return Watto under the banner of Heen. (MTS)

Worrying rumours from Irombrozia

February 11

Some shocking rumours have reached the editors of the Heenite Highlights. If they would be true, this would mean a lot of worries for the Ceded City Alliance: the rumours speak of a huge battle that was fought in Irombro, capital of our federated ally Irombrozia. Riombara has attacked the city with a force more than three times as big as the one of Irombrozia defending the city. According to the Free South Times, the official newspaper of Irombrozia, the main army of Irombrozia was executing a mission in Eno, the capital of its enemy Kingdom of Alluran and the largest city on Beluaterra. As such, the army was unable to defend its own city, and Riombara took advantage of that situation to occupy the city.

The rumours also include that in this battle, Duke Torrero of Irombro was imprisoned by forces of Riombara. As his unit was nearly totally massacred by the Riombarans, he held strong even though surrounded by several tens of enemy soldiers, but eventually he was disarmed and taken into custody. An unpleasant situation, since even though imprisoned, Duke Torrero keeps his Dukeship, but from in his cells in Athol Margos, he cannot execute any actions as Duke, especially the drafting of new recruits for the army of Irombrozia. King Hireshmont would do best to appoint another Duke, if only temporarily, as soon as possible. The Heenites can now only hope that their federated allies will be able to relieve themselves from the pressure of Riombara.(MTS)

Luz takes Brovyl

February 11

After the succesful assault of Riombara on Irombro this morning, Luz de Bia has proven itself a worthy ally of Irombrozia in the war against Riombara and its ally Kingdom of Alluran. This evening, the Democratic Government of Luz has taken over control of Brovyl, formerly part of the Kingdom of Alluran. With only Xween left to feed the citizens of Eno, the enormous city must be close to starvation.(MTS)

Sint versus Valentia

February 11

Only minutes ago, Pontifex Bocephus has declared war on Valentia. The reasons for that are not clear, it could be that Bocephus has decided to declare war on Valentia's memorial because Valentia was an ally of Sint's enemies Mesh and Ashborn and because it was an enemy of Sint's allies Thalmarkin and Melhed. Was, indeed. Valentia has already been destroyed earlier by Melhed. We can only guess whether this was but a formality or whether there is more to be sought behind it, but an interview with Pontifex Bocephus might follow.(MTS)

Pontifex Bocephus' story

February 12

The editors are pleased to have good news for our readers: Pontifex Bocephus is prepared to explain to us the rather unusual declaration of war by Sint on the annihilated Kingdom of Valentia. One, be it long, question was enough to learn about his story.

Sir Bocephus, what are the reasons for this declaration of war? Is it merely a formality to show the rest of Beluaterra that Sint stood by its allies Melhed and Thalmarkin? Is it to show that allies of Mesh and Ashborn, such as Valentia was, are not tolerated by Sint? Or are there any other reasons for this diplomatic action?

"This was posted on the ruler channel and to all nobles of my realm. Nub Knotwise was also the Valentia general who led the army that backstabbed us when we were allies in the past. I would advise not giving him refuge if he comes to your territory.

Letter from Bocephus

One of the remaining rats of Valentia has
left their nest to camp out in our capital
of Firbalt to spy for our enemies. In order
to catch him we need to be at war with
Valentia to do so. Sint will declare war on
what remains of Valentia for this purpose. Sir Bocephus
Pontifex of Sint

Sir Bocephus
Pontifex of Sint
"

It is obvious how Bocephus thinks about Nub Knotwise, the High Marshal of Valentia. (MTS)

Nub Knotwise's story

February 12

"I have no connection to Ashborn whatsoever. The short time we helped them in their war against you was at our King's request alone. We did nothing in the time we were in this area, and it was a complete waste of time. But, we followed the order of our King, and as General, I lead the army.

I actually intended to join your realm- that is the reason I came here. The whole northeast is a jumble of nothingness and boringness. You're actively at war, and stand a good chance at surviving any impending invasion. But if you are as spiteful as you have appeared in the two times you've spoken to me, I fear you are not the leader I thought you to be. And I will take my services and experience elsewhere."

The most important argument of Valentia's (former) High Marshal Nub Knotwise is thus that he acted simply under the orders of his Ruler when he lead his forces to attack Sint, yet he did lead the forces and never protested, let alone opposed to the decision of his Ruler. As such we can only include two things: either he was a coward who gave up his identity by following orders he did not support because he feared the anger of his Ruler and Judge and was afraid to lose his position, or he actually supported the order of his Ruler. In both ways, he is an enemy of the state and as much a backstabber as his Ruler, and as such he is not welcome in Sint, and most likely not in Heen either. At least the Duke of Tahgalez has closed his doors for Nub Knotwise.

As for not having any connection with Ashborn, that seems remarkable or even unbelieveable, since they had the same allies and the same enemies. May he find a home in Mesh, where he might once again fight Sint and again decline that he was acting with his will.(MTS)

Plergoth recaptures Worvobaen

February 13

In a succesful attempt to reconnect the Townsland of Cwellndell with the rest of Plergoth's regions, Plergoth has managed to take over Worvobaen. Until the Kingdom of Vlaanderen had taken over this rural region short ago, Worvobaen had already been a part of Plergoth, and as such, Plergoth still held the claims on Worvobaen. Plergoth now once again has 9 regions, whereas Vlaanderen's territory returned to 6 regions.(MTS)

Silence from Irombrozia

February 13

After the shocking news about the attack of Riombara on Irombro yesterday, no news has reached the editors of the Highlights. We can only pray that Irombrozia has relieved itself from the pressure of the Riombarans.(MTS)

Watto revolts

February 14

The peasants in Watto have started to revolt. In the two days that Watto has been under the control of Ashborn, the loyalty of the inhabitants of Watto towards Ashborn has significantly dropped from 24% to 11%. They have started to protest against their lord that has bought them against their will, and will do whatever they can to relieve themselves from his lordship and to return to the banner of Heen, the one they had chosen to live under before Zyrthos bribed the officials. Hopefully, they will succeed. (MTS)

Huge Battle in Fengen

February 14

A force consistant of the combined forces of Avalon, Fronen, Old Grehk and Thalmarkin, counting approximately 35.000 CS according to peasants' testimonies, has tried to capture the fort of Enweil's capital Fengen, where around 27.000 CS soldiers of Enweil were awaiting the attackers. The largest battle on the continent in a very long time raged on for many hours, until eventually both armies agreed to end the battle. There was no victor, or at least not physically.

Morally the great winner was Enweil. Not only had they held off the first attack of the attackers, which should normally be succesful, they had also done more damage to the enemy's forces. The attackers could only capture one defender, who was brought to the cells of Old Grehk. The defenders on the other hand managed to capture six of the attackers: High Marshal of Thalmarkin and Baroness of Luhgrethen Krimhild, Duke Galvin of Cteduul along with three other realm mates from Avalon, and one noble of Fronen. Avalon suffered the biggest losses from this battle, with apart from the four captured nobles, also the death of Vornamen, the Baron of Lacint. May he rest in peace.

After this bloodbath, it is very unlikely that the attackers will give up their plans to occupy Fengen, even though their chances have become much more slim. We will see the outcome of the second battle tonight. (MTS)

Fwuvoghor enters Ceded Federation

February 14

This afternoon, the Republic of Fwuvoghor has declared war on Riombara. By doing so, they have joined the side of Irombrozia and Luz de Bia against Riombara and the Kingdom of Alluran. Only minutes later, we also heard that the Republic has declared itself prepared to join the Ceded Federation. Considering the Republic's location on the other side of Riombara's lands, this might open options for Irombrozia to free itself from the Riombaran pressure. (MTS)

Second round in Fengen

February 14

As predicted, the forces of Avalon, Fronen, Old Grehk and Thalmarkin kept attacking Fengen, after the undecided battle this morning. The second battle did however have a winner, and it was not the winner that the attacker forces had hoped for: due to the large numbers the attackers had lost in the first battle, the numbers of the attackers and defenders were equal, which made Enweil the winner because of the fort they had at their disposal. This time Old Grehk suffered the biggest losses, with two nobles imprisoned and one seriously wounded. One noble of Fronen was captured as well. (MTS)
