An Najaf Fall Festival!

Morning Procession

All the people of An Najaf gathered in the centre of the region, on the Plains of Aealys (eh-alice), where the Monument of the Fontan Civil War rests, waiting for the horn to sound so they could begin the procession to the beach. Every year in all four festivals, the An Najafi began their celebrations with a procession. It was a tradition passed down from centuries past, and one in which marked the beginning of a grand day. The procession was a way of collecting all the communities together and properly gearing their attention to the importance of the day unfolding.

An Najaf Fall Festival!

Opening Ceremony

After a two hour procession from the centre of An Najaf to the shores, the entire population arrived to open the day with a formal ceremony. The Count, Armstrong Ironsides, Hero of Democracy, elevated himself by standing on a wine barrel and then raised his arms wide. Everyone silenced, the opening ceremony was beginning.

“Commoners and Nobles of An Najaf, my people, this is the first time that I have had the honour and the privilege to celebrate this tradition with you all. It is especially a great joy to be the Count during this great, perhaps the greatest, festival in our history!

We have a guilty past, and our actions in support of the Confederacy have led to grave suffering and pain. I have worked hard to redeem this land in the eyes of Fontan, and in the eyes of Democracy. Let this day be another mark in our quick return to glory. Let this day show all of Fontan that we are truly united in our Democratic ideals, in our love of this land, in our commitment to fighting tyranny wherever it is, and whenever it may raise its ugly tentacles against us!

Today is a very important day for us. Not only is it the showcase of our recovery and rehabilitation from the Civil War, not only is it an exhibition of our culture and customs to all Fontan, today is also blessed with two very significant occasions.

First, today is a day of remembrance and celebration on the life of one of Fontan’s greatest heroines, my personal hero and a true Democrat, Duchess Amelia Bernstein. We should all take this day to reflect on her life and her heroism, and remember it always. Remember her finest achievement as the Saviour of Krimml, her wonderful reign as its Duchess. Ultimately, remember her selfless sacrifice on the fields of Hagely against our fiercest enemy, the Kingdom of Perdan. Every year this festival is celebrated with a music competition. That is the tradition, that is the custom, and today will be no different. The only thing marking this competition over any other is that all the songs will be dedicated to Duchess Amelia. Let everyone hear these songs and remember them for all time. Remember her for all time, as we should remember all of Fontan’s Heroes.

Secondly, this festival has the great pleasure of being the occasion in which two of Fontan’s finest nobles will wed. I personally have the honour of being the groom’s best man. My dear friends Lady KatalynFae Dragul, whom I adore and am truly blessed to share a friendship with, and Sir Jon Paul Ogren, a wonderful friend and a valued brother, I wish you both the happiest life together, and that this day fulfills all your dreams and desires. As a gift from myself as Count, and all the An Najafi, I offer you the key to a lovely cottage near the ocean. May it serve you as a warm hearth, a place for comfort and rest, and most of all, may you consider it your home in An Najaf. You are residents of this land as much as anyone in the crowd is. If at anytime you wish to move here permanently I guarantee you will not be wanting in moving hands!

So, with all of the authority I have been elected to wield, I hereby officially declare this festival open! Fire Handler, you may light the traditional sign of commencement, the Praise Fire!

Go out, spend time with your family, enjoy the many activities of the day, and I will see you again very soon at the Parade.

This is a festival for Fontanese!”

Cheers and howls! Follwed by clapping.
