King Garthon's Letter to the Editor

The editor's recent comments on my speech today, have prompted me to address his claim that none of the reasons given had been previously posted to the realm. Clearly, the editor needs to do his research before attempting to report on anything.

From the Carelian Times'...reported by Zerric.

This statement notwithstanding the integrity of my reporting remains unblemished. this easily proven with any search through the scribes messages if any of the reasons were given previously much less all of them.

My reply is those messages you claim your scribe cannot find.

  • They were using their relative safety behind ASI to interfere with a war in the North.
  • We dropped our relations to neutral with them after they sent hostile troops into our ally Talerium's lands.

Report from Garthon Dumeric (22 days, 20 hours ago) Message sent to everyone in your realm (93 recipients)

Nobles of Carelia,

First, let me state that no one dictates Carelia's policy other than ourselves. Not Tara, not Caergoth, not ASI, not the great Cagilan Empire themselves. Those who think so should find themselves a new home, as they don't have the faith in themselves enough to wear the Carelian mark upon thier shield.

In the last few weeks many of you have been clamoring for action, for war. Two of our armies are mobilizing in the south, in the event hostilities arise near the Protectorate of Magnus. Recently, I have lowered relations with these religious fanatics in response to actions they took in violating a war in the North and a raiding party they sent into our ally Talerium.

  • It disintegrated to war when Caergoth asked for our assistance in eliminating the threat so close to their borders.

....We are aiding Caergoth and Suville against PoM. We are at neutral and unless further provoked have no reason to declare open war....

The Protectorate of Magnus has resisted our occupation troops, and now threaten to infiltrate our borders with priests. They fail to see that it was these threats that put them in this position to begin with. An open war declaration will soon follow.

We war with ASI because they fight alongside PoM. There were several reasons to dissolve our alliance with ASI, here are some main points:

  • ASI was only a "paper" ally created by Kronos and Doc's Revenge. They never assisted us militarily, and actually worked against us in our war with CE. They allied with CE and collaborated to destroy our ally Abington effectively sealing our doom against CE.

...(same speech from before)Our alliance with ASI was born out of a mutual friendship between Kronos and Doc's Revenge(DRP), mainly because DRP saved Kronos's throne as part of our surrender agreement to CE. During the entire time as allies they have never once sent military aid, infact they allied with CE as they nearly drove us to extinction. I have no personal quarrel with DRP nor any Knights of ASI, but I think calling them "old allies" is a bit of a stretch. We probably have a longer history of warring them than we do being on the same side.

I, and I am sure many of you, were always under the impression that ASI was the one that saved us from being destroyed...it was only the throne of Kronos that was protected by ASI's intervention, nothing more. At the time a good point, but now a moot issue.

  • ASI harbors Kronos, which many in Carelia have called to be brought to trial.

(from the same letter as above)...This will certainly increase tensions between ourselves and ASI, and will undoubtedly be the end of our alliance with them. Of course, opening the door for the other thing many have been clamoring for, the opportunity to meet Kronos upon the battlefield.

  • ASI acted prematurely in the forming of the Protectorate colony (which war originally designed to be a joint effort with us and them.) They took advantage of our situation with region issues to set up as overseers of the peninsula bullying Caergoth and Suville into submission.

This one you have me on...but I would guess that most of the nobles of Carelia didn't realize PoM was supposed to be a Carelian/ASI project, except the senate from Kronos's days as king...oh wait! You were on that Senate as an observer....not a very good one I might add, and all the more reason for your removal from my Senate.

Garthon Dumeric King of Carelia

King Garthon Lashes out at his Critics

In the interest of Fairness i am publishing this letter from Garthon, King of Carelia. Following a flurry of comments made once articles from Atamaras "independent" newspaper and the Carelian times circulated throughout the nobles in the land of heroes, rumblings of discontent had started with even senators arguing with one an another. Quickly acting to cool situation King Garthon sent out a hurried message to every noble of Carelia

Then 4 out of 5 Carelians do not read their letters, which I find hard to believe. When and where was this poll conducted? If you are gullible enough to believe the first piece of rhetoric you read, instead of seeking clarification from the source, perhaps you should look to rehire a mentor. I made many announcements regarding our plans and reasoning behind them. Some where in response to questions, other in response to accusations. I answered all questions, and still will. Am I wrong to assume when the questions cease that the matter is settled?

What I do find comical is those that pretend this did not happen, and cast a conspiracy-style light upon our war. Some people will do whatever they can in order to stir the pot. But I will cover it again, in order to inform any new nobles, as I am being unfair to them. And for the record neither Bartho nor Leo are wrong, they are just focusing on one of many reasons we fight.

Our initial conflict started with the Protectorate of Magnus.

  • They were using their relative safety behind ASI to interfere with a war in the North
  • We dropped our relations to neutral with them after they sent hostile troops into our ally Talerium's lands.
  • It disintegrated to war when Caergoth asked for our assistance in eliminating the threat so close to their borders.

We war with ASI because they fight alongside PoM. There were several reasons to dissolve our alliance with ASI, here are some main points.

  • ASI was only a "paper" ally created by Kronos and Doc's Revenge. They never assisted us militarily, and actually worked against us in our war with CE. They allied with CE and collaborated to destroy our ally Abington effectively sealing our doom against CE.
  • ASI acted prematurely in the forming of the Protectorate colony. They took advantage of our situation with region issues to set up as overseers of the peninsula bullying Caergoth and Suville into submission.
  • ASI harbors Kronos, which many in Carelia have called to be brought to trial.

What do we gain?

  • Regions. The most base reason for any conflict is land, this is no difference.
  • Strong relations with an ally to our East that is also friendly with an ally to our West.
  • Invaluable experience fighting a two front war, and coordinating with multiple resources. The future of wars will be greatly affected by the new military structure, it is best to learn them now.

Having stated all this, I still insist my desk is always open for questions. There is nothing that I hide or refuse to answer, if asked directly. Ask anyone who has contacted me privately if I have not answered them in earnest ( or rather have some of them volunteer as you would not know who has contacted me privately.) I answer everyone and not with false promises or something I think they want to hear, but with the truth as I see it today.

Garthon Dumeric King of Carelia

Having heard this i stand by my previous Article. This statement notwithstanding the integrity of my reporting remains unblemished. this easily proven with any search through the scribes messages if any of the reasons were given previously much less all of them. Now having heard the explanations, from the King of Carelia judge for yourself the worthiness of such a war. We here at the Carelian times only search for the story.

The March of War, the heartbreak of losing

Dear readers of the Carelian Times,

It has been some time since i have wrote anything about the going ons in Carelia, mostly because not much has been happening. However recently, it has been since my expulsion from the senate as a listening only vassal. i was given the position to be able to write about and defend Carelias actions from its attackers. a position granted to me by the once former Great King Kronos. while he did in the end betray his country, he while king was very honorable. Recently and unbeknown to me i had been removed from that position, one can only be left to reason why this was.

It was barley announced we were at war before we were marching, in fact many a nobles had issues with the way it had happened and in particular with ASI, a longtime ally of ours. you would think such thinking by the monarchy and senate would be reasoned out to the common noble but alas it was not. with no dissension from anyone we marched off to war. with no explanation from anyone we marched off to war. major battles have been fought, and in my opinion we have yet to show Carelias true teeth. while we are winning the war, with so many nations arrayed against ASI, this is nothing spectacular. Nobles in this government are treated like pawns, to be moved with no explanation, so our hearts are not into the fight. I had in the beginning requested reasoning from Marshal Sonya not to mention a destination, none had been forthcoming. It seems that with power some elitism creeps into even the best of nobles. since then she has apologized for the humiliating defeat we suffered at the hands of an over matched ASI, and for that she has earned some respect back.

My beloved Carelia fails to see how things are headed, i claim no such monopoly on common sense. nor do i despise our leaders, most work fiercely for Carelia, in the end however they usually make the same mistakes many of the leaders did in the past. keep everything secret. while this may seem like the best plan for success, i as always argue against it. Garthon, who i, when first elected was stunned to see how forthcoming he was with the common noble has seen him collapse back into his shell. no doubt working to secure Carelias future with the senate in a wrong headed fashion.

i have failed to win the Judgeship a few days ago, my fault by far as i have probably made a few enemies and didn't turn to the common noble for my votes. i shall try harder next time. Leta was the winner by a respectable margin, only time will tell if she bows to the whims of power or does the nessecary changes Carelia truly needs. whist it does indeed hurt to lose the election i am hopeful that Leta does well in my stead.

in closing it is my hope that things change soon, for i fear Atamaras politics are a a volcano waiting to erupt and Carelia only appears safe from the molt for the time being.
