Here I proudly present a new edition of the Atamara Times. Due to much activity on other projects and family affaires we had to skip one planed edition. I and the technical staff are very sorry for this. We have been glad and honoured, though, by the over 150 people that have read the 3rd edition and the requests we got for the present edition. In the future we will try to get the paper out according to the planed schedule. We also hope to be able to employ one or two additional journalists.
This Edition has five articles mostly focussing on events of the centre of Atamara rounded of with the latest news from the war in the north. We have sadly not been able to get replies from all involved parties therefore some of the facts in the articles may be based on unconfirmed events or only unilaterally commented. We hope you will enjoy the paper! Erasmus Episcopus di Saladi’ilm |
Southasland Obituary | |
The hard fighting nobles of Southasland are no more!
At least there realm have fallen to Falasan and Minas Ithil and is now the capital is under the rule of Falasan and the new duke of Tucha go by the name of Maniac Zotral. Hereby only Norland stands as reminder of the mighty realm of Hasland. This was once the largest and one of the most powerful realms of Atamara. But after the defeat of Tuchanon and the annexing of it’s and others lands the mighty king of Hasland, Boeth Relak, was afraid of waking the anger of the mighty god, TOM, and decided to split Hasland in three. Thus Norland and Southasland were formed under trusted nobles of Hasland. Southasland was formed by Tokanan di Saladi’ilm, whom successfully lead the last invasion of Tuchanon as Duke of Shanandoah and as a reward was given the duchy of Tucha. Under his rule Southasland rose to glory as a hard fighting nation of brave men from the deserted badlands and mountains of the east. Southasland faced many strong enemies lead by Cagilan Empire and many times the Southaslanders successfully defended far superior forces in Tucha. As the old leader of Tuchanon rebelled in Hasland and eventually helped the many strong enemies of Hasland to bring it down, but only after Southasland and others brought Tuchanon II down, Southasland kept fighting strong in against superior forces like the full Talerian army and eventually outlived it’s parent realm. Southasland helped its allies in many a war under great kings like Tokanan and Kodak Hobbs, but in the winter of 2005 the old Tuchanons managed to gain power in Southasland and throw out many of the true Southaslanders in the famous first rebellion of Southasland. At the same time they turned the back to all Southasland’s faithful allies and caused their anger. This eventually brought Southasland down. Though they still fought like true Southaslanders, the joined forces of up to five former allied realms were too much. The Tuchanon government of Southasland did not manage to gain more than the support of an indifferent Tara and in the end the closed-border-agreement between Tara and Falasan cut of Southasland and the little help Tara would provide. In the end Cagilan Empire helped Southasland but it was too late and they also were bound by the Taran-Falasanian agreement. Now Southasland only live in the memories and hearts of those that knew the true Southasland and in the dreams of its revival. EE |
Drachenwald Rebellion
Some weeks ago the people of Drachenwald saw a rebelling it would be most proper to call a quiet one as the there was a minimum of fighting involved, but it have had drastic consequences for the government of Darachenwald. It all started with a proclamation and order issued by the Prime Minister, Skanders Grandrith, backed by the council. In it he expressed concern over the current state of affairs for the Drachenwaldian economy and suspected behaviour of young and new members of the Drachenwaldian nobility. Along side with this he requested all nobles to report their financial and military situation to the council for further investigation of information received from reliable sources. This information told of large sums of money being drained from Drachenwald and channelled trough family connections within several families among the Drachenwald’s nobility, to a far of realm on the Eastern Continent named Avamar. The request was put forward in a harsh and demanding tone, appropriate for such a serious accusation, but no particular nobles was named as suspects. Nevertheless several of the new Drachenwaldian nobles, later announced as being the suspects by the council, supported by others went forth with furious and strong accusations of the government, and especially the Prime Minister, abusing their power and acting like Drachenwald was a tyranny. Though the Prime Minister was supported by many of the old families in Drachenwald lead by the Minister of Defence, Jacket Tator, the opposition managed to force the a vote of trust in the parliament and force the Prime Minister to step down. The following rushed voting for a new Prime Minster was convincingly won by the opposition leader, Leo Abandonas. Which quickly went about in a megalomaniac way, confident with his new election, ripping the region commanders of all titles and acting around the council, even though several Drachenwaldian nobles, lead by Nemethos di Saladi’ilm, warned him of his lack of support, both politically and militarily. Also many nobles thought the election was false and manipulated, as they did not have enough time to vote and many voters were lost.
The outcome of it all was the old council disbelieving in Leo’s authority and raised the armed forces needed to overthrow and ban him and his supporters from Drachenwald and using their influence to get word of promise from all realms on Atamara that they would not give Leo asylum. At the same time the government of Drachenwald was changed to that of a constitutional tyranny under the rule of Skanders. We here bring the full text of the Drachenwaldian constitution: The Tyrant The General The Judge The Banker The Council The Noble Lawful Removal EE |
Troublesome Tara | |
In the long standing war between the realms of Tara and Ash Sea Inlands, Tara has lately been the loosing party. It is not that this have shown itself in a massive loss of regions or military, the front is more or less constant, it is more shown in the little details. Ash Sea Islands have slowly gained control of the regions in the east around Ser'quea and have, after the fall of Southasland, managed to move the fighting further west. Lately they have had to get the joined help from Cagilan Empire, Carelia and RedSpan to fight back a large force from Ash Sea Islands as far west as Jagla. Though they have regained the regions of Sauvia and Tarasac from Darka this has also meant a cancellation of the lease of Darkan soldiers. But rumours from Tara state that Tara is having a hard time getting control of especially Tarasac and might give it up to an ally.
Though Tara still have strong support among the southern and western realms, the newly signed treaty between Darka and Minas Ithil might send the now idle troops in Shanandoah south to fight along their ally Ash Sea Islands and it has long been unsure how long the fragile agreement of closed borders between Tara and Falasan will hold. Falasan have not been active in the Northern war and with the current situation in the northern war many think it would be unlikely Falasan will look north to compensate for the loss of Lothruin to Minas Ithil. A deal sources in Barad Gardor inform AT almost lost the new queen her support among the influential region commanders of Falasan. Also Many nobles in- and outside Tara have talked about the Taran general not only being an unpleasant character, but apparently also incompetent at commanding the forces in war. Whether or not it was this that lead the long time dictator of Tara, Max Pitkamiekka Perkeleet, to leave the post to Jamuga McCola, is unknown. But one thing is for sure; the political climate in Tara is not the best. Many troopleaders have been seen leaving Tara in disagreement with the government or forced out after not following orders they thought improper and outright foolish. It will be interesting to see how it all turns out for Tara. EE |
A new Treaty between Darka and Minas Ithil
The Atamara Times have exclusively gotten permission to print the full text of the new peaceful treaty between Darka and Minas Ithil:
None Aggression pact between Darka and Minas Ithil The realms of Darka and Minas Ithil have agreed in mutual understanding that the war between our realms isn’t profitable for any of our realms. So we agreed in mutual understanding to sign an none aggression pact. Both realms agree on following
Both realms recognize that it would be possible and very likely in the current diplomatic atmosphere that our troopleaders will engage eachother outside our realm borders. Military engagements will not affect this none aggression pact as long as it is outside eachothers realm borders. Infiltrator action will be penaltied with banning from the realm directly of the troopleader. This pact will be starting immediatelly and will run till 1st of December. This pact has to be cancelled with a 2 weeks prior notice otherwise it will extend with 2 months automatically. This pact will be ratified by eachothers councils with at least a 67% majority, but will be in effect already if not cancelled until the 30th of May. All prisoners should be released immediatelly. Darka offers Minas Ithil a gift of 250 gold as a sign of goodwill, which will be delivered latest until the 5th of June. Signatures
The rulers of both realms expressed satisfaction with the treaty. They both have deep respect for each other but think a war between the two would have very little gains for either. It will be interesting to see what the two warrior realms will be up to now. As Dead Angel3, King of Minas Ithil, expresses it: "Peace is boring. In times like this, an realm that keeps his army home must not wonder if his troopleader leave the realm." That Minas Ithil is clearly ready to venture out from Shanandoah shines through as he continues: "Minas Ithil is a warrior realm and the gain of honor is directly reflected on the Minas Ithil internal ranking. No we will not keep our forces home, but its not decided yet what we will do. We have more then 1 battlefield we could be active on or we could create a new battlefield. Everything is possible in times like these." Darka on the other hand has no eminent plans but Murat Orim, King of Darka, clearly angel for someone to hire the mercenary forces of Darka in the following statement: "At this moment Darka has no plans to take part in any hiring of their army. Though developments can happen in many areas at anytime so I must say we are open to ideas." Only the future can tell what will happen but the release of two such powerful armies will definitely have an impact on the balance of power on Atamara. EE |
The Northern War – A spy in Darka
While the even war in the north is raging back and forth with only slight gains on the military front, many things have happened diplomatically. Shortly after the loss of Ashmoor, Eston have managed to successfully defend Fiddleford and advance, possibly due to the new agreement between Darka and Minas Ithil. But rumours also speak of then getting help from Talerium. The relations between of Darka and Norland, and thereby Darka’s involvement in the war, was almost turned disasterous, as Darka found a Norland spy among their ranks. It turned out that a brother, Garm Crownguard, of the former Norland Minister of Defence, Derack Crownguard, had been leaking information to Norland. The spy managed to dishonourable commited suicide before he could be executed or banned and a war between the two realms was only avoided as the Norland Prime Minster, Krypton the Bold, assured Darka the Minister of Defence acted alone and without the urging of the council. Apparently the affair had no consequences for the Norland minister and therefore the diplomatic situation between Darka and Norland is as cold as the plains of Freezefist. It shows clearly in the comment from the Darkan King, Murat Orim:
"I can honestly say that as long as the people of Darka hold true to me as their king I cannot honourably attempt to improve relations with the Vikings of Norland as long as a member of that family of traitors holds a council seat. So as long as he holds that position or any other for that fact Darka and Norland will not have a relationship other than meeting on some forgotten battlefield." But at the same time the Darkans also have grown mistrustful of their southern neighbour, Talerium. Apparently there has been talk in Talerium of starting a war against Talerium. Some have advocated that many Darkan regions truly belong to Talerium and this was leaked to the Darkan King. Darka though strongly denies having spies in Talerium: "Darka has never nor will ever have spies in Talerium as far as I am concerned. I was traveling home from returning Tarasac to Tara when approached by a Talerium noble in which he gave me information at his own accord that suprised me immensly." was the comment from the Darkan King. He further explains that he has "…lowered relations with Talerium in concern to those statements of the lord and also included along with the uneasy relationship with their General." At the moment the diplomatic gales have calmed down but it might very well be silence before the storm and currently the delicate situation do not need many drops of water before the cup overflows.
