Region Description
Ancient Emblem : ⓞ signifying generosity and worthy of trust and treasure.
Geographically, Menedor is located on the southern bank of the river Mene. Its border extends along the river, from where it spills into the northeastern corner of the Central Lake, upstream as far as Lyton. The region has long been famous for the practice of floccing for gold, in the river, using fleeces. This is thought by many scholars to be the source of the regions ancient name, Menedaurum, noting that aurum was the ancient word for gold. From this we have the modern name Menedor.
The riverside is mostly given to urbanisation with the spread of many villages now forming one coherent township. The quayside is a bustling, cosmopolitan area of warehouses, smithies and markets. A little way inland, through the Northgate, is the civic centre and baronial manor. Away from the river is mostly farmland and a normal harvest together with fishing provides just enough food for the population. This and trading are responsible for around half the region's thriving economy with the remainder coming from manufacture of various goods.
Politically Menedor is important for its control of river trade and by protecting and maintaining the magnificent bridge across the river Mene easy access north and south is assured. South, is the large central lake city of Barad Gardor and nearby coastal regions; whilst north, across the bridge and beyond Amdor, are the vast and fertile northern plains of Atamara.
