Hypothetical Plot Tree

This is a progression of events that can happen to Jared from his current state, or things that he might do, and the possible outcomes. This has no meaning other than as a general guideline of what to expect in regards to his future if certain things happen, and is really intended just for fun. Also note that the chain of causality described here may not necessarily translate in game. In fact, see this as more of a mini-game, as if Jared's life were some multi-path choose-your-adventure story.

How to Play

Start at Chapter 1. Go from Choice 1 to Choice 2 to Choice 3 and so on. In the beginning the paths will be clear and explicit to help guide you. Later on, it is up to you to pay attention to what triggers/achievements you have unlocked, which will tell you which choices you can make and what will be the result of a choice with such triggers. If a choice does not lead to an ending (Bad/Good Ending #X) then assume you can continue to the next numerical choice, unless the choice result specifically tells you to go to another choice.

So how do you unlock Chapter 4 if Chapter 3 has a good ending conclusion? Well there's an unlockable chapter, Chapter 2.5, which takes place concurrent to events in Chapter 3. That is accessible only with Penitent Hero unlocked after getting the Good Ending of Chapter 3. The choice to progress into Chapter 4 unlocks in Chapter 2.5, however doing so without at least one playthrough of Chapter 2.5 results in less than 100% completion.)

Chapter 2: Ohnar West

Relatively no choices until near the end of chapter.

Choice 1:

  • Leave for Beluaterra: Go to Chapter 3
  • Stay in Ohnar West:

-If Penitent Hero: Unlock Chapter 2.5: Arcaea: Mahalo/Uto Dreamworld

-If no PH, then Bad ending 40: Jared lives the rest of his life as a coward in Ohnar West.

Chapter 2.5: Arcaea: Mahalo/Uto Dreamworld

(This Chapter takes place concurrent to the events of Chapter 3. To actually unlock it, one would have to play through Chapter 3, getting the proper triggers to unlock Penitent Hero, which is required to play Chapter 2.5. Obviously this is chronologically inconsistent, but this Chapter is mostly a hypothetical chapter, unlike the other chapters that are at least rooted in reality.)

All previous triggers are preserved, but do not affect the outcomes of the majority of Chapter 2.5

Choice 1:

  • Go to Niel: Go to Normal Choice 2
  • Go to Topenah: Unlock Other Worlds

Normal Choice 2:

  • Fight: Bad ending 41: Mahalo is killed in the siege of Niel.
  • Do not fight: Bad ending 42: Mahalo is killed by a Sartanian infiltrator in Niel.

If Other Worlds:

Choice 2:

  • Gaze into the mirror: Unlock Ancestral Memories
  • Destroy the mirror: Unlock Forced Awareness
  • Leave: Bad ending 43: Mahalo is lost forever in an abandoned section of Topenah. His body is never found.

Choice 3:

  • Go to Niel: No triggers.
  • Stay in Topenah:

-If Ancestral Memories and Penitent Hero: Go to Chapter 4: Sultanate of Asena (This is impossible on a chronological playthrough because Jared would have to get the DP, BF, JH triggers from Chapter 3: Beluaterra first. However since Penitent Hero is required to unlock Chapter 2.5 anyway, one is forced to play through Chapter 3 at least once to unlock Chapter 4.)

-If FA: Bad ending 44: Mahalo realizes he is Jared and goes insane, disappearing into the mists in Topenah.

Choice 4:

  • Go to Mraulaxon

-Unlock Selene

  • Stay in Niel: No triggers. Go to choice 5

Choice 4a: Only if Selene is unlocked.

  • Attack Selene: Unlock Choice 4b
  • Do not attack: No triggers. Go to choice 5

Choice 4b:

  • Respond to letter: Unlock Choice 4c
  • Ignore letter: Bad ending 45: Uto is killed by an archer.

Choice 4c:

  • Accept: Unlock Choice 4d
  • Decline: No triggers. Go to Choice 5

Choice 4d:

  • Enter: Unlock Choice 4e
  • Leave: Bad ending 46: Uto is stabbed in the back by an unknown assailant as he walks away from the estate.

Choice 4e:

  • Go to the bedroom: Unlock Selene Octavius sex scene. Go to choice 6.
  • Leave: Bad ending 46

Choice 5:

  • Leave: Bad ending 47: Mahalo drowns on his ship bound for East Continent.
  • Stay: Bad ending 48: Mahalo is killed in a monster skirmish.

Choice 6: Haha wow that means the only way Uto/Mahalo/Jared survives this Chapter is by doing the "optional" sex route with Selene.

  • Leave: Unlock Awakened Hero
  • Stay: Unlock Alternate Hero 2/Radiant Hero

Awakened Hero factors into Chapter 4: Sultanate of Asena but otherwise has no effect in Chapter 3: Beluaterra. It is possible to play through Chapter 4 without Awakened Hero but it would not grant 100% completion.

Radiant Hero is a vastly divergent point, and in fact Radiant Hero's plot shifts to the point where Mahalo is a different individual than Jared, or at least in mentality. It goes into a far more surreal path than the Awakened Hero path.

Either choice in Choice 6 will lead to Choice 7.

Choice 7:

  • Awakened Hero: Ends chapter, goes to Good Ending 1: Neverending Path. Implies that Mahalo realized he was really Jared and goes back to East Continent, where his journey began.
  • Radiant Hero: Ends chapter, goes to Intellectual Ending 1: Poem for the Sky. Mahalo becomes the Hero of Dawn and has his own storyline in Arcaea that is not related to Jared in any way, so it will not be mentioned here.

Chapter 3: Beluaterra

Choice 1:

  • Kill peasant: Unlock Bloodfury
  • Spare peasant: No trigger

Choice 2:

  • Join tournament: Go to Choice 4
  • Do not join tournament: Go to Choice 3

Choice 3:

  • Fight:

-If BH, WM, Mantras, TH, BF: Good ending 2: Jared becomes a hero of RoF and retires to a life of comfort.

-If above triggers are incomplete, or if AH 1: Bad ending 49: Jared is eaten alive by monsters in Wilwau.

  • Stay: Bad ending 50: A crate of swords falls on Jared, killing him.

Choice 4:

  • Insult:

-If BH, WM, TH, BF: Unlock Dark Expectations

-If above triggers are incomplete or incorrect: Bad ending 51: Jared is killed in a duel to the death against the noble he insulted.

  • Train: Bad ending 52: A training dummy has a sword accidentally left in it, which is forced out when Jared hits it and impales Jared in the chest.

Choice 5:

  • Attack the Daimons:

-If Dark Expectations and fought using Murderous setting: Unlock Daimonic Presence

-If DE and any other setting: Same scenario as previous, but no DP unlocked

  • Do not attack the Daimons: Good ending 3: Jared meets a minor noble's daughter and starts a family.

Choice 6:

  • Go to Fronen: Go to Choice 7
  • Stay in RoF:

-If DP: Bad ending 53: Jared is killed by Daimons while on the border.

-If no DP: Bad ending 54: Jared is eaten by wild dogs while on the border.

Choice 7:

  • Talk to Jeff Carnes:

-If Mentored, then unlock Fateful Irony

-If no Mentored, then no trigger (You'll regret not making the choice to accept Elberan's offer of mentorship, despite it having absolutely no effect until now. Unless you activate Fateful Irony, you can't get Jedinchel Hermit, so you can't unlock Chapter 4. Do no mess up the very very first choice you make!)

  • Join unannounced: Unlock Maverick Hero (Then again, Maverick Hero unlocks a separate storyline for Jared in Beluaterra, so you'll have to play through Chapter 1 at least twice anyway. If you miss Mentored the first time, then no sweat. Just pick Maverick Hero and get Mentored next playthrough.)

Choice 8:

  • Raid Old Grehk:

-If DP, FI: Go to Choice 9

-If DP: Bad ending 55: Jared is killed on sight by Old Grehk patrols.

-If no DP: Bad ending 56: Jared is captured and tortured to death by OG patrols.

  • Refuse raid (Only if Maverick Hero is unlocked)

-If DP: Go to Chapter 3.5: Heart of Darkness (It's not so much a chapter as much a very very long description of how Jared makes his way to Jobo's Mouth only to be killed by an undead champion. Hah, what a long-winded dead-end route.)

-If no DP: Good ending 4: Jared becomes a hero with an undeniable individualist style and retires to a life of peace in Fronen.

Choice 9:

  • Escape: No triggers. Go to Choice 10x
  • Talk to Skye: Unlock Change of Heart

Choice 10:

  • Join OG (Only if CoH is active): Jared is released; Go to Choice 11

-If CoH is inactive, Jared will refuse, leading to Bad ending 57: Jared kills himself by hitting his head repeatedly against the dungeon walls.

  • Escape: Bad ending 58: OG guards spot him and shoot him dead with crossbows.

Choice 10x:

  • Return to Fronen:

-If DP: Good (Good?!) ending 5: Jared has to stay constantly on the run from OG, but meets a professional thief along the way. The two fall in love and become a team of thieves.

-If no DP: Good ending 6: Jared has to stay constantly on the run from OG, but realizes that it is this life on the edge that makes him feel alive.

  • Stay in Old Grehk: Bad ending 59: Jared is caught and hanged by a group of peasants.

Choice 11:

  • Fight Jeff Carnes:

-If FI, DP: Wounded, Unlock Jedinchel Hermit. Go to Choice 12.

-If FI: Bad ending 60: One of Jeff's cavalrymen impales Jared through the head.

-If DP: Bad ending 61: Jared is killed by friendly fire from his own men.

-If no FI or DP: Bad ending 62: Jared is wounded and goes into the mountains.

Choice 12:

  • Flee to Jedinchel:

-If Mantras, JH: Unlock Penitent Hero. Good ending 7: Jared seals his violence away with the last mantra from the White Book of Awakening and believes he can face his past. He leaves Jedinchel to sail for the East Continent.

-If JH, no Mantras: Bad ending 63: Jared bleeds to death in Jedinchel.

  • Stay: Bad ending 64: Jeff Carnes returns to finish off Jared.

Chapter 4: Sultanate of Asena

Note that this chapter only fully unlocks after Beluaterra and Arcaea are both played through at least once, and the triggers to get Ancestral Memories and Penitent Hero are gained. Ancestral Memories is activated in Arcaea, which can only be accessed after activating Penitent Hero in Beluaterra. However, the event that leads to Sultanate of Asena, which only occurs during Arcaea, happens before the event to activate Awakened Hero in Arcaea. Therefore, to get 100% completion, at least 2 playthroughs of Arcaea are required.

Choice 1:

  • Talk to Zephyros: Unlock Moral Compass
  • Ignore Zephyros: No triggers
  • Fight Zephyros: Bad ending 65: Zephyros is quicker to the draw than Jared and fires several darts into Jared, thus killing him.

Choice 2:

  • Pledge to Vanya: Unlock Kazan Knight
  • Do not pledge to Vanya:

-If Moral Compass: Good ending 8: Jared becomes Zephyros' mentor and believes he has properly redeemed himself. He reunites with his family in Commonyr and retires in peace.

-If no MC: Good ending 9: Jared returns to Commonyr to reunite with his family. He dedicates himself to the study of morality in order to repay for his violence.

Choice 3:

  • Let Tea stay:

-If KK, MC: Unlock Second Chance

-If KK: Unlock Transcendent Friendship

  • Refuse: No triggers

Choice 4:

  • Serve the Sultanate:

-If SC: Go to Choice 5

-If TF: Go to Choice 6

-If no SC or TF: Good ending 10: Jared becomes a humble knight of SoA, who doesn't get any recognition, but who is satisfied that he has finally found peace.

  • Stay in Kazan: Bad ending 66: Jared is killed by monsters in Kazan.

Choice 5:

  • Let Tea help: Unlock Dearest Daughter
  • Do not let Tea help: Go to Choice 6

Choice 6:

  • Save Tea: Unlock Ataraxia
  • Do not save Tea: Bad ending 67: Tea dies. Noooooooooo!!!

Choice 7:

  • Stand ground:

-If Dearest Daughter: Go to Choice 8

-If Ataraxia: Good (Good!?) ending 11: Jared dies fighting the undead, but he goes down with a smile on his face, knowing that he protected Tea to his last breath.

Choice 8:

  • Kill undead champion:

-If Awakened Hero was unlocked in Arcaea chapter, then Jared will notice that he killed Nathan. It will unlock choice 8x.

-If no Awakened Hero, then Good ending 12: Jared realizes how short life is, and vows to live happily. To those ends he offers to teach Tea all the knowledge of alchemy and morals he has learned through his experiences.

  • Spare the undead:

-If Awakened Hero was unlocked in Arcaea chapter, then Nathan will not kill Jared. Good ending 13: Nathan gives Jared his axe, and tells Jared to have no regrets. Jared understands what Nathan means in the simple gesture that Nathan does to throw his necklace onto the ground. Jared becomes Tea's faithful guardian for the rest of his life.

-If no Awakened Hero, then Bad ending 68: The undead champion suddenly rises and cleaves Jared in two with his great axe.

Choice 8x:

  • Take the axe: Unlocks Nathan's Legacy
  • Leave the Axe: Unlocks Swamp Treasure

Choice 9:

  • Befriend guard:

-If Awakened Hero and Nathan's Legacy, then the guard will befriend Jared. Unlocks Friendly Revenant

-If Awakened Hero and Swamp Treasure, then the guard will befriend Jared, but otherwise unlocks nothing.

  • Try to escape:

-If Awakened Hero and Nathan's Legacy, then the guard will fall to Jared's axe. Unlocks Perpetual Violence.

-If Awakened Hero and Swamp Treasure, then the guard will kill Jared. Bad ending 69: Jared is no match for the revenant, and she kills him by decapitation.

Choice 10:

  • Go back to Kazan:

-If Friendly Revenant: The revenant lives with Jared in Kazan. Adds new character: Revenant. No further triggers.

-If Perpetual Violence: Bad ending 70: Jared and Tea are working together in the fields one day, when Jared suddenly snaps Tea's neck. He then walks away, emotionlessly, as he succumbs to the bloodfury.

-If neither FR or PV: No triggers.

  • Stay among the undead:

-If FR: Good ending 14: Jared and the Revenant fall in love and live as eternal lovers and rivals until Jared's eventual death. No one knows what happened to Jared, though rumors said that he was occasionally seen with an undead warrior woman.

-If PV: Good ending 15: Jared continues in his quest to vanquish the undead, giving him a reputation as a formidable slayer. Eventually he is remembered as a champion of humanity.

Choice 11:

  • Attend Tournament in Westmoor: Unlock Silent Rift
  • Do not attend tournament: No triggers

Choice 12:

  • Wear the cloak: Unlock Twilit Sentinel
  • Wield the axe: Unlock Erstwhile Guardian

Choice 12a: (Only if Silent Rift is unlocked)

  • Greet Zephyros:

-If no FR, no additional scene. Nathan's Axe is lost. No further triggers.

-If FR: Additional scene where Revenant stops Zephyros from taking the axe. No further triggers. Nathan's Axe remains in Jared's possession.

  • Remain silent:

-If no FR: Bad ending 71: Zephyros fires several darts into Jared, who slowly bleeds to death, while Zephyros takes Nathan's axe.

-If FR: Bad ending 72: Zephyros fires a dart through Revenant's head, killing her (again). Jared cuts Zephyros' throat in retaliation, and runs away into the darkness.

  • Attack Zephyros (Only available if Erstwhile Guardian is unlocked): Go to Chapter 4X

Choice 13:

  • Agree: Unlock Fateful Reunion
  • Refuse:

-If Twilit Sentinel, no Silent Rift: Good ending 16: Jared continues his silent service to the realm, eventually retiring to a life of peace.

-If Erstwhile Guardian, no Silent Rift: Go to Chapter 4Y

Current Timeline

Silent Rift is unlocked, and so is Twilit Sentinel. These two seemingly pointless triggers will combine to affect something in the future.
