Epistle to Torvaldo

1Lord Torvaldo,

While you have not asked specificaly, since Lady Labelle has told you of Sanguis Astroism, I will tell you of Triunism. My apologies for any vagueries: I myself am young in the faith; Lady Metis knows more of the intricacies of our faith.

2However, Triunism is, essentially, rooted in the belief that our lives ought to be purposeful and meaningful. Meaning and understanding, to know and to perceive, is the final object of life. 3We achieve that goal, not through merely hearing lectures, but through the daily struggles and travels of life itself. 4Life is its own teacher: 5we struggle against the storms around us, against the monsters, against division, against our own more shadowy natures, and in doing so, according to Triunism, Life speaks to us, and we gain understanding.

6That is the philosophy of Triunism. For the more detailed information, you would have to ask Lady Metis: she is our founder and most knowledgeable priest.

First Epistle to the Barcans

1Friends,

Welcome in Chesney; please enjoy your stay while you are here.

Should you require any help in finding anything while you are in Chesney, directions, or perhaps would like to arrange a visit by my home during your stay here, my liege-man Forlang is competent to handle the request.

2While you are here, I encourage you to join any of the guilds that may strike your interest: no place in Dwilight has so great a concentration of cultural establishments as Chesney does. It is the soul of Occidens, I think, and the crown jewel of Maroccidens.

3Generally, during your stay here in Terran, I have tried to refrain from any of my personal causes: I have no desire to meddle in the internal affairs of your new realm. However, now that all is arranged and set in motion, I would like to take a moment to address a matter which has been on my heart, albeit quietly, for some time.

4You may have encountered Triunists here in Terran during your stay; I myself am a priest of Triunism. It is the primary faith as far north as Via, west of Shoka, and south to Wurzburg and Rettlewood. Most of the lands you intend to settle already have Triunists among them. 5A simple description of our teachings is that the proper course of human life is through the reconciliation of dynamic forces, the difficult searchings-out of the soul wherein we negotiate between our reason and our passions, between order and chaos, and, indeed, moderation as well. 6Between these things we seek to find a truly centered way of living, and it is this Triunist creed, this commitment to the spiritually-centered path, the commitment to the unity of Time and Space, which has guided my devotion to Terran's Republican ideals and Chesney's cultural development. 7Should you desire to know more of Triunism, I would be happy to speak with you concerning it.

8I have not spoken much of my personal desires for this colony in the past, as it is not my business. And in the future I shall remain quiet as well: but I thought it fitting, while you are guests in my city, to speak my heart, if only but this one time.

Second Epistle to the Barcans

1Suffete,

Triunism's beliefs are simple enough. We believe in two Great Powers of Being: Father Time and Mother Space, whose romance has begotten Existence. 2Their children, who could be called gods, are Wurdiz, Blacklight, and Mortazo. Mortazo represents the view of life as chaotic and anarchic, wherein only strength, power, discipline, order, the rule of law can keep Existence in harmony. Mortazo is an archon of order against chaos. 3Blacklight represents the view of life as subject to oppression, driven down by power, life is full of would-be tyrants. Blacklight professes our need for freedom, for our liberties, and as such is an archon of the individual and of chaos. 4Wurdiz, the Third-Born, could be seen as an archon of compromise, the negotiator between the others.

5The three waged war for many years. They altered the heavens and the stars within them, and there was war among them. 6Father Time and Mother Space, however, had another plan in mind. They had made humans, and set them on the earth, and put them into a deep sleep. But as the War of the Three continued, it threatened to mar the race of man. 7As such, Father Time and Mother Space crafted the Brass Golem called Telos: the Purpose, the Prison. They imprisoned the Three in Telos, and sent Telos forth on a great journey.

8We do not know where Telos goes: some say Telos will return to our lands, others say the Three are gone forever. Yet we behold in the punishment of the Three the birth of the Triune: the binding of order, chaos, and compromise into one entity, under the banner of common need and purpose.

9This is the root ethos of Terran: that we are imprisoned by the wilds, yet, as the Chosen of Telos has reminded us, we are also impassioned by our prison. 10We are nobles of many kinds, of many backgrounds, indeed, of many faiths. Yet, in our common purpose, our common Telos, we are somehow united, and we discover the Triune.

11That realm which should seek to squelch either Wurdiz, Mortazo, or Blacklight is foolish. That realm which should wander listless, without purpose, without a sense of being on a journey, is unworthy of its life. 12That realm which should turn against itself and ignore the injunction of Father Time and Mother Space to unite against the weathering forces beyond its borders will lose the favor of the Father and Mother.

These are our beliefs. Should you have any questions, it would be my pleasure to answer them.
