The Old Book of Betrayal is a rather nondescript tome. It fits easily in the hand, no matter who holds it. It is bound in brown leather and looks quite weathered. The only thing of note about the book's outward appearance is the closing clasp, about the size of a coin, that seems stained with a bloody sheen when shifted in the light. The text within it appears to be totally of no note; Perhaps the numbers and letters within are a ledger of grain reports. However, when you look closer there are sigils and strange symbols contained within the margins that speak of a hidden code. For all it's common appearance however, there is something compelling about the book that is recognized by all who see it. If it were placed upon a shelf with a host of other tomes you would know this book was special.

Rumors of the book from peasants in Epinotke is that the book was the secret journal of an apprentice Sage. She used the book to store and contain her teachings as a student, but then turned against her master. The apprentice had fallen in love with her master, and though he took her as a lover he was unfaithful and uncaring. In relational she plotted against her teacher. With a spell she trapped him and drew the master's power, his essence, into the book.
