After what might be half an hour the healers had tended to his hand and one of them went to the market to buy some medicinal herbs to cure the terrible headache his lord had. In the meantime a scribe carrying the Serpentis banner approached the tent where Toshuk was, he carried a letter that meant to be delivered to him. Toshuk's scribe received it and told him that his lord was indisposed for the moment, that he will carry any reply directly to the Judge encampment. The scribe entered the tent, it was dim, with a couple of candles lit, silently he put the letter on the table near to his lord who was trying to fall asleep.

Monkeying Around

The fallout of Lord Toshuk's bad day

Backdrop: The freeman Karden had just finished dropping off a valuable ring to Judge Erik, and he had with him a bag with over 50 gold in it as well as a letter of recommendation.

Bad Day

The sun was rising, and Toshuk was upset, he couldn't sleep in all night because of the nearly hundreds of letters he had to read on a daily basis.

"Captain Jodokus, come heeereee!" all the men could hear.

"Yes sir, what happened?" the captain said.

Obviously the captain knew about this situation, having all his men stationed at the gates of Avamar, now some of them demanding payment, it was not an easy task.

"What do you think? We have 75 men waiting here, doing nothing! Hundreds of letters steal my sleep, and to complete it, we have no money at all, not even to pay the materials to make training dummies, and now THIS!!!" Showing a red letter on his hand, shaking it in the air as he shouts "THIIISSS!", throwing the letter to the ground and putting his boot on top of it ripping it against the rocky ground.

"I want 5 men to come with me. NOW!"

Trying not to upset him more, he sends 5 men with him.

---

Later on...

On one of the streets that surround the inner wall, there it was, Toshuk with 5 armed guards. Terribly upset and annoyed he pinpoints one of the peasants who was at the wall with a bag and a bunch of other stuff.

"Guards, after him!" In a swift movement the 5 guards apprehend the peasant and bring him to Toshuk.

It was at that precise moment when Toshuk punches him hard, tossing him onto the ground, kicking his head and jumping up and down in his abdomen like a monkey.

After a brief moment to catch his air he tells his men:

"Arrest him, he was nothing more than a punching bag. Make sure he survives, later on I will pay a visit."

Three of the men bring the wounded man to the prison and ask for him to be treated as is badly wounded.

Explanations

Judge Erik, having just arranged for the release of Karden, was not in a good mood.

"Scribe, compose a letter as follows:"

Sir Toshuk,
Do you know that your soldiers beat and arrested Karden, a freeman who had just left my camp taking the gold I paid for the repairs of my ring? And that I spent my precious time going down to the dungeons to release him?
How many times I have to say that you should not arrest our OWN Adventurers? If these arrests prejudice the services they are doing to our Lords and to the Judge of this realm, those losses will be payed by the men who spend their precious time with these activities.
I hope you find someone better to do with your time that arrest adventurers working under my banner. Or under the banner of any Lord of Sirion. When the commoners of Sirion are under my command, the last thing I want is that they are beaten and arrested shortly after leaving my camp.
I'm waiting an apology for that.
In Arms!
Erik Eyolf Serpentis
Judge of Sirion, Marquis of Trinbar

"Once you're done, have this sent to all nobles of the land."

Investigations

Encamped with his Paladins of Elune just outside of the walls of Avamar, Corwyn idly read through the morning's messages that his scribes had delivered. He didn't give them much thought till he read that Judge Erik had freed an adventurer named "Karden".

He immediately sat up. That got his attention.

Re-reading it in more detail now, he saw that it was Lord Toshuk that had arrested him. He was surprised to see how much anger was starting to boil inside of him.

He tried to calm himself. He was the founder of a new noble family, and he was introspective enough to recognize that he was extremely self-conscious of his new stature. He needed to calm himself, and to get more information.

"Karl", he yelled out to his captain. "I have a task for you. Get some of your more discreet men to hit the streets and find out more regarding the arrest of a man named Karden."

---

Some time later...

"Captain Karl, reporting back Mi'Lord."

"So soon?", asked Corwyn. "What news do you have for me?"

"We've spoken with some witnesses, Mi'Lord. The whole thing happened in broad daylight, near the gates. Lord Toshuk had 5 of his men grab the man, and then Lord Toshuk personally assaulted the man. He, umm..."

"Speak freely, Karl. What is it?"

"Well..." the captain continues, "people remember it kinda vividly because apparently Lord Toshuk looked kinda like a monkey as he stomped on the man. Afterward, Toshuk was heard saying 'he was nothing more than a punching bag'. And then his men carried the freeman away."

Corwyn couldn't help but smile a bit. "A monkey, you say? I have another task for you, Captain. Find me some minstrels..."

The Bad Day That Turned Even Worse

After the episode on the road by the inner walls of Avamar Toshuk returned to his men, went to his tent and called for the healers.

"Healers! Come HERE!" yelled almost in pain.

The three healers quicky went to the tent, as their lord's voice transmitted pain to their ears.

"Two things, the first, I need something for this terrible headache, I haven't slept for almost two days in a row and this pain in my head is killing me! and second, please tend my right hand, I beleive a bone might be broken."

The healers started tending their lord, just after one of them grabbed his hand he stated

"You, go to the prison, see that a commoner who's badly wounded gets the best care, I want him to live, and I DON'T CARE HOW MUCH IT TAKES TO GET HIM FIXED, JUST DO IT!" he spoke clearly upset.

After what might be half an hour the healers had tended to his hand and one of them went to the market to buy some medicinal herbs to cure the terrible headache his lord had. Several hours later.

Regaining consciousness little by little Toshuk asks for his captain.

"Jodokus, my friend, where is the Scribe, I need to answer the letter to the judge ..." Jodokus goes out for a moment and returns with the scribe.

"Write what I say, as I say"

Judge Erik,
I very much regret the episode in which I was involved, had no knowledge that the farmer was working for you, was a moment of despair and powerlessness in which I have been involved, this is what I can say in my defense. For your comfort I have sent a healer to do what is in their power to make the farmer to recover.
I understand your anger over these events and hope the consequences of my actions are dictated by your hand.
To War and Glory,
Toshuk Vlad
