__TOC__

Messages are really simple things. They only have three elements: A sender, a context and the message text.

Every message always has a context. There is never a message without context. Contexts are also never implicitly set, clients always have to explicitly choose a context. Contexts are always specified using a string and a number.
+
By sending and receiving messages you can communicate with the players and characters in the game.
+
The system is used as described below.

Contexts are much like mailboxes or folders.

;news :Global news. This context has no IDs and will work the same no matter which ID is supplied (i.e. the ID is ignored). It is read-only for all players.

Council (write messages to the members of the government of your realm)
;info:Player-specific information. ID is the PlayerID. Read-only, everything in here is messages from the game engine. Stuff like completed character sales, etc. goes here.

;local:Local chat and announcements. ID is the location ID and this context is available for all locations the player has licenses in.

;player:Every player has exactly one personal context. Players can send into the player context of any other player, but only read from their own player context. The context number is the player ID.

;combat:Every combat is it's own context. Only participants and spectators can send and read these contexts. The context number is the combat ID.

Its primary useful purposes are threefold: first, for a noble who is somewhat important, though not a ruler, to be able to converse with rulers (for instance, the leader of a religion or guild); second, to be able to disseminate information continent-wide, such as an invitation to a purely roleplayed event like a wedding; and third, by spies to send information to their employers. Note that, although spying and sending information via out-of-game means is considered cheating, if you send it via this option, it is (most likely) perfectly legitimate. Which isn't to say that you won't be banned and reviled IC if caught; you just won't have your account deleted.

This option had not been operable for a while. It has been available since Summer 2006.

After you select it, you will stop receiving messages from that player/character. Be sure that you can afford to go without them.

You will not be reminded of the choice you make on that at a later time, so you may want to check your "ignore list" periodically to be sure you still have such strong feelings about the Sender.

This article is a stub or placeholder. The BattleMaster Wiki is a collaborative effort, and you can help expand it by adding to this article.

By sending and receiving messages you can communicate with the players and characters in the game.
The system is used as described below.

Writing Messages

By clicking on the write messages link you will access the page where you can write all your messages.
This page is divided just like your read page, with the same categories and tabs.
The categories and tabs are:

Hierarchy
Realm (here you can send messages to all nobles of your realm, the diplomatic circles of your realm(the ruler and all diplomats), all dukes of your realm or all lords of your realm)
Council (write messages to the members of the government of your realm)

Organisations
(Write messages to the guilds, societies or religion your part off)

Location
(write local messages, to for example the lord or all allies of the region your in)

Global
Here you can write messages to global channels, channels who everyone can access on the continent you play in.
Global Mentoring Channel of your continent (From here you can ask for or offer help about the game by using the mentoring channel)
All Rulers of your continent (contact all rulers of your continent)

Personal
Conversations (if you want to write messages to individual characters or a custom group of characters you can start a new channel for that)
Notes (Write messages to your self)

You can also write messages by clicking on reply to channel when reading your received messages.
You can reply to all received messages from any channel.

Reading Messages

By clicking on the Read messages link you will access the page where you can read all your messages.
Per standard it will show you your unread messages first, shown selected by highlighting its tab.
You can click on the various tabs on the top to apply a different filter.
Which are the same categories as listed above.

Channels

Channels are groups of recipients, either standard or set up by other players.
A standard channel is for example the ruler channel where all rulers can send and receive messages from the same channel/circle of communication.
A custom channel(conversations) can include any other character in your contact list, and is started by creating new conversations at your write message page under the tab personal.
You could create a channel for your allies or friends or even enemies.
Your contact list includes anyone that is either part of a standard channel or from which you received or sent a message to.
