The House of Marlboro was made up of an aging patriarchy founded by former tobacco merchants in the town of Trassing. After several decades without any apparent heirs, the forefathers of the family were finally able to produce a son, whom they called Winston. After the firstborn heir apparent, they cemented their legacy by siring a handful of other children. Most of the elder Marlboros are now deceased, leaving the younger generation largely in control of the family's holdings.

The general family view on nobility is that they are simply represent the best of humanity, and while commoners are certainly their lessers, they are as children, foolish and generally incompetent and thus requiring the utmost care. The Marlboros thus have a long history of defending the common man, though they see the taxes and other regulations governing them as a form of payment for that service. They are not particularly despotic, though as prone to classism as any other noble family.

Their family standard is a golden griffon and stallion rampant, between them a shield, on a crimson background suitable for a family that swears fealty to the Cagilan Empire. Benedicta, the lost sheep of the clan, flew a similar banner that is silver on dark green, the griffon replaced by a wolf, and the shield by a dragon's severed head.
