The Sanguine Guard

The Sanguine Guard is the Household guard of the Dux of Luria Ferrata. Selection for the Guard is rigorous, and to command a unit of the Guard an immense privilege. Under the reign of Alessio de Medici, the Sanguine Guard also doubles as the Imperial Guard, adding to their prestige.

Standards

Lowborn soldiers must be at least six feet in height to apply for the Sanguine Guard, in peak physical condition, and must be native born Lurian soldiers. Foreign service among the lower classes is not permitted. Soldiers in the Sanguine Guard must have perfect eyesight, and must not have any hearing impairment. To be permitted a place in the Sanguine Guard, all recruits must pass a grueling physical evaluation known as the Crucible. All members of the Sanguine Guard will be instructed in basic horse riding, even those not filling a cavalry role.

Highborn commanders must be loyal Ferratan nobles in good standing. Commanders are expected to adhere to the call of duty to their army above and beyond any other duties.

Uniform

Melee oriented soldiers will be issued plate. Ringmail and chainmail are not permissible outerwear, but may be used to reinforce plate. The plate will be enameled black, and soldiers will wear crimson tabbards with appropriate insignia based on their commander.

Archers and other ranged oriented soldiers will utilize leather armor, dyed black. Crimson tunics are standard, and each soldier will be issued a pair of sturdy riding boots.

All soldiers of the Sanguine Guard will travel mounted. Warhorses are to be reserved for those serving as cavalry.

Duties

The Sanguine Guard fills several roles, but their present primary goal is the preservation of the Imperial Line. Those with Imperial and Royal blood are to be assigned a contingent of guards from the Sanguine Guard to serve as bodyguards. Additionally, call constabulary within Luria Ferrata will be replaced with vetted members of the Sanguine Guard.

The most noticeable detachment of the Sanguine Guard however, will serve in a regular army role as Luria Ferrata's Home Guard, patrolling the regions, clearing monster and undead infestations, and repelling foreign invasion.

Honors

In progress.
