Tournaments and Peace-time in Perdan

Return from a Successful Tournament

4 Oct 2007

Cal walks home, relatively satisfied, happy to talk to anyone nearby who will listen.

Cal: ...so the swordfighting didn't go very well, but my opponent did make the fifth round, so I lost to a worthy advisary, and I'll do better next time, mark my words! As for the jousting, I started with a couple from Fontan...

Cal: ...and then I was through to round four! Four! Oh yes. And it took a future finalist to defeat me. Sir sinted is great with a lance - it was an honour to fight him...

Cal: ...and did I tell you about the second round - a marvellous move I made then to win the second round - almost spun him off his horse, yes indeed!...

Cal continues to chatter so, all the way back to Perdan, though his audience doesn't entirely seem to make it that far with him.

Cal Grindle (Knight of Perdan Mines)

First Duel

23 Oct 2007

Cal Grindle easily defeats Sir Zeteo - he knew he would, after all, he knew he was the better swordsman, and knew he'd pick the better strategy. But enough of his brilliance, he thinks, the main thing was to put Zeteo back in his place. Shouldn't be hearing from that little upstart again for some time, he considers.

First Battle

31 Oct 2007

Cal Grindle can be heard for many hours after the battle has finished, telling everyone he can find in Bisciye about the battle. How he led the way onto the fortifications; how he almost single-handedly (sure, his twenty men did the damage, but he was there, leading them onwards, setting the example) did by far the most damage to the enemy archers as he cut them to pieces; how The Cross showed themselves to be a mighty force in battle, and how he, Sir Crip Grindle, led them to victory...

==Arcachon== - Written in November 2007 but since someone with the first name Cal already existed on that continent, his emigration was banned by the system and this never therefore took place. Cal instead moved to Old Rancagua on the East Continent for a month or two waiting for the name-change promised by Tom, but two months on and this had still not happened, so Cal was still in Old Rancagua when he was deleted in Jan 2008.

Emigration to Archacon

Cal arrives from the boat, and dismisses the sailor with an unsympathetic glare as he pays the man the bare minimum and takes most of the food with him. He is glad to be back on land, though he misses the more rugged coastline from his previous home.

A young boy runs up to him, offering him something which looks as if it's just been dragged out of the ocean. He accepts a sample of the Coofer Fish, or whatever he's told it is, decides it's pleasant enough to take a second large sample, then dismisses the boy without purchasing any and strides from the shore to the nearest village, where he demands information of the nearest man he finds.

Cal: I am Cal Grindle. I am seeking my mother Row Grindle, in the house of my father, Cur, where might I find her?

Man: [respectfully] Sir, I am sorry, but I have not heard of the Grindle family; do you know of their whereabouts that I might point you in the right direction?

Cal: [with a slightly cruel laugh, then a smile] Bah, you are miserable indeed not to have heard of my family! But I believe they are somewhere near the southern area of Mnalor, so you can oblige me by pointing the way there.

The man quickly points to a path, and hurries away. Cal knows only what was in the letter from his father Cur - that Cur has gone to Beluaterra in search of Cal's rogue sister Tidey, who has not been seen since passing through Netherworld and may be languishing in their jails. Cur then instructed Cal to come to Arcachon to protect his mother in his absense. The rest of the letter was some odd text about Adgharism, or something like that, which Cal didn't understand, but believed to be related to the new faith his father had found in recent years.

Cal is undecided whether it is in his interests or not to be here, though he likes seafood and knows his duty is to his family, so he doesn't regret following his father's orders. He knows he should head straight to search for his mother, so decides only to spend a few hours in the local inn, where he makes good friends with a bottle of Vergine Port, and starts to realise why his father moved here in the first place.
