Luchia Garelith of Azzal, a horse trainer for the House Da Hadez and widow of the decorated war hero Thorn Garelith died recently in a riding accident leaving her young son an orphan.

Her will was presented, sealed, to Lord Da Hadez's chief scribe as is the tradition. With a sombre demeanor he publicly read the will which simply stated that her son be left in the care of the House Da Hadez and that her estate be sold for his upbringing. The scribe calmly left the public hall and then, despite his years, ran to the stables. He climbed upon the nearest horse and rode for two days to find Lord Severn Da Hadez at the battlefront.

His haste was due to shock and panic, for the last will and testament of Luchia Garleth concealed a secret that could destroy the House Da Hadez. Luchia's son Kaleth was not the heir of the dead hero Thorn Garelith but was the illigitimate son of Severn's elder half-brother, the exiled Balian. After a long, grave conversation the scribe left Lord Severen's tent with orders that Kaleth be raised as Severn's own son. The scribe was to announce that the child was that of Lord Severn, born of a youthful affair. The ailing Lord Luthor was never to be told the truth of his grandson's origins lest the strain of the knowledge kill him. Lord Severn's motives for this apparent philanthropy towards his hated brother's son is unclear.
