The General Supreme is charged with coordinating multiple armies and Marshals. While the marshals are responsible for those assigned to their respective armies and the day to day tasks of such armies, the coordination of the overall war effort falls to the General Supreme. The General Supreme is also responsible for communication and coordination with Generals from other realms. The General Supreme and High King should work closely together in order to plan wars and campaigns, however being in charge of the realms military, the success (or failure) of those campaigns ultimately fall on the shoulders on the General Supreme. That being said, as the military is ultimately controlled by the General Supreme, the realms diplomacy is handled by the High King. It is not within the power of the General Supreme to declare offensive wars or to end wars. With the return to an elected position, the General Supreme can now be chosen by the very nobles that fight under him or her, allowing nobles that prove their worth to rise up to lead the armies. This is the second offensive army of Caligus, and was born from the remnants of the Free Loyalists Army of Caligus, a moderately rebellious army which disagreed with the ruler on some points and comprised of nobles sharing this sentiment, the army took up the role of hunting monster and undead hordes, refusing to fight the King's battles and instead choosing to defend the lands and people. The FLAC never became a threat to the regime, but certainly kept it restrained, its roles were however short lived, as its founder Waylander Con Doin mysteriously vanished and the king took control of the army by default. The FLAC spent a short time as the elite army of Caligus holding all the heroes who were unable to do civil and police work. Now the revamped CGT is equivalent, if a little smaller than the CRG and is led by Marshal Elisedd Deytheur and Vice-Marshal Percival Prestongreen

In the long run, preservation of unit size is a priority, as it is cost effective.  Hence a unit's weapon and armour quality are both important but to different degrees depending on the unit. Training is of secondary importance, as while it is slow to increase, it does increase. Once again preservation is a priority, because over time, training, cohesion and your captain will all improve. Once again one cannot stress enough the immense importance of quality over quantity, as while the initial costs are quite high, the constant replenishment of men which is required for a large unit of poor quality arrow fodder is much more expensive.

Military of Caligus

Caligus icon.PNG Military Leadership and Armies of Caligus Caligus icon-rev.png

History

The General of Caligus is henceforth known as the "General Supreme". Previously, the position of general of Caligus was formerly known as the Strategos Hypatos (male) or Hypatissa (female). Dating even before that, this position was an elected position known as the Captain General, with the final Captain General being the decorated veteran Jimminy Pantucket.

The former High King Rowan MacGregor changed this title of general, as well as eventually removing the position from being an elected one, to one assigned by the Basileus Anax himself, which was at the time the title for the Ruler of Caligus. At the behest of then General Supreme Jimminy Pantucket, then High King Preston Greer returned the position to one that was elected once again. This returned power to the nobles and knights to choose who would lead them into battle.

Role and Function

As well as removing nobles who are not equipped to handle the position of general.

Army Command

This group of Caligans discuss battlefield strategy and includes the High King, General Supreme, the Marshals and Vice Marshals as well as dukes and lords interested in military affairs but not necessarily having any official military position.

Current Chain Of Command

1. Matthew Mcloud, High King of Caligus
2. Pasquale Contéfigardo, General Supreme of Caligus
3. Marshal of the Wings of Retribution, Gerard Crewins

Caligus icon.PNG Recruitment Tips Caligus icon-rev.png

Note that while you are free to choose whichever unit you want without repercussions, below are a few guidelines to help troop leaders young and old in selecting what unit to command.

Currently the military leaders of Caligus encourage troop leaders to have units with a minimum 40 men amounting to no less than 500CS with funds being handed out to reach this target.

It is also important not to over recruit. More than 50 men is really not necessary. Do not take it upon yourself to recruit a take over unit as these are rarely required!

A good target to aim for in a unit is to have 50 men with 600CS for infantry and archers. For Cavalry and Special Forces, 50 men with a lot more CS depending on troop quality.

Honour and Recruitment

As can be found on Honour and Recruitment page the general formula for the number of men we are able to recruit seems to follows:
Number of men = Factor * Honour + Offset

Unit type Factor Offset
Infantry 1.5 22
Archers 1.5 22
Cavalry 0.5 7
Special Forces 0.5 7

Cavaliers appear to get a bonus recruiting Cavalry and Special forces, though the effect is as yet unknown.

Infantry

There is no such thing as too much infantry, if you do not know what kind of unit to recruit, this is the best kind. Seriously you guys, infantry alone might not decide who wins the battle, but they certainly decide by how much the battle is won. With infantry defence is slightly more important that attack, hence with two almost equal units, the one with the stronger defence is usually preferred. Caligus has a number of good infantry centers, below are the top 10.

Name of RC Training	Weapon/Armour Quality
Infantry center 55 80/70
Hamadan Pikemen 50 80/60
Fontan Berserkers 35 85/50
Heavy-Armed Infantry 45 70/70
Jo9/11b 85 75/55
Voulge Warriors 60 75/50
Orangie Bandits 45 65/75
Domus Hoplites 45 70/65
Isadrillian Infantry 2 60 65/65
Swords of Winkamus 55 65/55

Archers

Archers are happiest when on top of walls, away from the violence and gore of the melee where they will be ripped to shreds like the Caligan Courier in Ibladeshi hands. Caligus has had a bad history with archers with their numbers once even exceeding that of infantry, needless to say Caligus did not have many successes in those days. Ideally archers should never ever ever EVER exceed 30% of the total number of troops. For archers, Armour quality is almost irrelevant, most important is the range, followed by weapon quality and training. Below are the top recruitment centers.

Information regarding Archers:

When recruiting Archers, It is possible to make use of a Range 3 Archer Center without converting your unit of Range 4 Archers Down to Range 3.

Simply recruit less than half the amount of Archers you have total. ie if you have 40 men, recruit no more than 39 Range 3 Archers and you will still lead an overall force of Range 4 Archers.

Name of RC Training	Weapon-Range/Armour Quality
Isadrillian Arrows 50 65-4/55
Bows of Winkamus 55 60-4/65
Supra Longbowmen 60 45-4/40
Tokat's Light Longbow 60 60-4/25

Mixed Infantry

These guys suck.

Cavalry

Ideally cavalry should be commanded by cavaliers. If you like extravagant clothes, such as hats with peacock feathers in them, boots which shine enough to blind the person you are about to kick in the face from your high vantage point and drinking the finest wines from Nascot's vinyards this is the career path for you! Cavaliers have good morale and cohesion bonuses when commanding cavalry as well as gaining a lot of honour in battle. Cavalry are primarily used to tip a losing battle in our favour, or quickly and decisively end a battle which is already won and all that is left to be decided is how soon and how thoroughly the enemy is beaten.

They advance 2 rows at a time across open field unlike other classes which only advance one at a time. Also they have a 'charge bonus' allowing them to deal double damage upon impact with the enemy front line. following this they act as expensive infantry, but infantry none the less. Hence, to preserve them, the ancient principle of 'live today that you may fight tomorrow' is applied: As such commanders are often encouraged to maintain a very low withdraw percentage (as low as your leadership allows) when commanding cavalry. Ideally as a proportion of the total troop number, they should not comprise more than 25% on the open field, and none when walls are involved. Also they make poor militia. For cavalry weapon quality is more important than armour quality as hopefully they do not spend too much time on the field. Below are the top cavalry recruitment centers

Name of RC Training	Weapon/Armour Quality
The inmaculates 55 80/35
The Burning Dawn 40 70/30
Isadrillian Hooves 70 60/85
Aureus Rough Riders 65 60/45

Special Forces

These are the elite! Their capabilities differ, with many if not all special forces having unique abilities. These abilities are currently under investigation and a whole section below will be dedicated to studying the Special Forces branches of Caligus. Abilities may include double melee damage, ranged attack (like super archers), a very good aptitude to break walls, and many more which are currently under investigation. NEVER MIX DIFFERENT TYPES OF SPECIAL FORCES AS THE ABILITIES MAY BE LOST. Below are all the Special Forces Centers.

Name of RC Training	Weapon-Range/Armour Quality Notes
Hamadan Musketeers 50 85-4/65
Paladins of Darton 75 70/75
Elite Phalanx 80 45/70
The Branded Ones 85 40/75
Isadrillian Powder 100 45/100

Caligus icon.PNG Special Forces Research Caligus icon-rev.png

Currently the Special Forces of Caligus are being investigated in a research project funded by King Dobromir and Duke Cuthbert. Results and conclusions will be published below as they become available. (To view results check the discussion)
