Economy

Scores of fields and windmills dot the broad, wind-swept landscape of Bode Batura. The fields are worked by over 6200 peasants, cotters and serfs. The windmills are driven by warm sea breezes by day and, thanks to reversible gearing on some newer windmills, cool land breezes by night. Most windmills here are used to pump water from deep beneath the ground to quench thirsty crops, producing an average of 220 bushels of food per week. Other mills primarily grind corn, wheat and barley for flour or bread.

The large grainfields are also the source of Bode Batura's famous "Bode Bitter" ale, which has gained a curious following among tavern-goers in the Colonies for hailing from the humorously named realm of Alebad. Along with surplus food, most of the ale produced is loaded on ox cart and shipped south to the city of Alebad.

History

Bode Batura's wide open spaces have made it the target for mounted raiders from Oritolon and Lukon, as well as the site of a few major battles. For the most part, Bode Batura's small garrison has been sufficient to maintain the region's long history of peaceful productivity.
