Kahlan rested her arms on the desk as she leaned forward. She was having a serious time reading the parchment in front of her, not because of poor lighting... well that was a factor, but mainly because of her unnaturally poor eyesight. She strained her eyes to read the letter her father had wrote for her, he was asleep in the other room at the moment.

The letter read as follows;

May this letter fall in the right hands. Before you stands my daughter, finally of age to serve Arcaea with all her wisdom and might. How she serves is no matter, for as long as she serves well and gives the Amnel name a reputation it deserves, then so shall I die a happy old man.

She is still quite young and very new to the outside world. My beloved wife has taught her the basics of life and her tutor has taught her the lessons of the world. I send with her a small unit of Rangers to help her on her way, but there will be much guidance needed to insure that she one day becomes the lady that my wife and myself hope she will be. She might not be too good with the sword, but she is a fast learner and she has a commanding voice. I hope that one day she will serve Arcaea as I did so many, many years ago.

My thanks and blessings,

Garrick Amnel

Kahlan ran her fingers over the family seal by her fathers name and folded the letter up and inserted it back into the envelope. She leaned over slightly and cupped her hands behind the lit candle and gently blew it out. The room became completely dark...

"Bloody hell..." She grumbled.

It only took her like... ten minutes to make her way to the door. Most people might have actually had a memory of where it was, but when she blew out the candle she became quickly flustered and spun around in circles, completely loosing her since of direction. She was in her father's study and honestly wasn't that familiar with the floor layout. Seriously, who puts a desk in the middle of a room filled with books all around on shelves?

She huffed and grumbled as she skirted through the doorway. She now entered the common room where a fire crackled under a large oak mantle on the far end of the room. To her left was an entrance to the dining room and kitchen while to her right was the door to the western wing of the estate. She walked over to the fireplace and leaned over to look into it.

"Father? Are you there?" She spoke rather loudly when addressing the fireplace. However insane you may have thought Kahlan to be, you would be only partly wrong. The fireplace gifted two rooms with its warmth, and just barely could you make out the details of the other room through the flicker of the fire.

"Give me a moment dear, let me finish up... uhm, these forms for our Lord." Replied her father from the other room.

She rested on a rather uncomfortable bench as she waited on her father to come out, she was attempting to read the etchings underneath one of the paintings of her father that hung on the opposite side of the room, the same side she had just entered from. It wasn't too long of a wait before her father stepped through the door that entered into his bedroom.

"Father, why were you doing your tax papers in your room and not in the study? Surely it would have been easier." Kahlan questioned.

Garrick, her father, chuckled, "My daughter... it would have been an absolute blessing to have done that, but I was conveniently in my room with the papers already in hand."

Kahlan nodded her understanding and stood up from the uncomfortable bench, leaning backwards slowly, causing her back to pop. "I just wanted to tell you that I will be leaving in the early morning for the Capitol City. I have your letter, but... how certain are you that King Jenred will see me?"

"That I am not sure of. I am only hoping that the King will grant you a meeting being that you are nobility. I could be completely wrong. I have not been a part of the public nobility in many years. Last time I served a King was long before I met your mother. I only go on faith that the city will embrace you and welcome you as I was so many, many years ago."

"Well, not to worry. I will most certainly see to it that I do what I can to shine brightly as a member of nobility within our country."

Garrick smiled and leaned in gently to kiss her forehead, the door to her father's room opened up and quickly snagged Kahlan's attention. As she jerked her body to see what it was, her shoulder collided with her father's chin.

"Father!" Exclaimed Kahlan.

Kahlan's father moved his jaw around has his hand braced it, "It is nothing, believe me, I have had worse."

Kahlan once more looked to see what the sudden distraction was. It was the house maid coming from the room with a pile of soiled laundry and with a free hand fidgeting with her rough looking hair. She must have been cleaning the room...

Kahlan finally arrived in Remton. The bustling cityscape was not something she was use to, and quite frankly not something she was sure she'd like. Regardless of that matter she pushed her way through crowded streets filled with vendors tossing their wares into her face. They were apparently skilled at picking out the country folk.

"Excuse me..." Kahlan murmured as she walked about, doing her worse to catch someone's attention to help her find her way.

"Sir, ma'am, excuse me...?" All she had was her father's letter and she wasn't sure that was going to get her far.

"Please, I'm look-- I need..." She was beginning to get frustrated.
