Today marks the first battle of the war in the new year. This morning The armies of Norland assaulted the fortress at Mansbridge, breaking the silence that has hung upon the battlefields for the last two weeks. Minas Ithil rushed reinforcements to their garrison stationed in Mansbridge making the battle one of 12,595 CS of charging Norland berserkers against over 16,000 CS of sun worshipers. Normally this would have meant a massacre of the attacking forces but during the short period without fighting the army of Norland rebuilt her army to consist of more than 80% infantry and stockpiled a fleet of siege engines over 23 in number. This hoarde of viking infantry, though still outnumbered, was able to swarm over the walls of Mansbridge. The siege engine teams set to work setting fire to the fortifications knocking holes in the motte while the rest of cut into the ranks of the Ithilians, buying the teams enough time to do significant damage to the outer walls before being driven back. Though the Ithilians will claim this as a victory this attack accomplished its goal by drawing out the main strength of the Ithilian army and doing heavy damage to the fortifications and infrastructure of Mansbridge as well as wounding the Marshal of the Shanandoa Praetorians and Minas Ithil's High Marshal. Norland's soldiers fall back to their palisades in Hernepoole with smiles on their faces for this is sure to be a bloody winter. | Today marks the first battle of the war in the new year.
