Geographical | |||
*xian 山= hill / mountain
*yang 陽= sun (eg: Hanyang the ancient capital of Qin Dynasty, a South facing slope. In the Northern Hemisphere a South facing slope is warmer, Han means facing i guess)
*jiang 江= river | |||
problems: words with the same sound
* jiang also stands for border jiang 疆....
*he 河= also river | |||
*hai 海 = sea | |||
*wu 湖 = lake | |||
* tau 頭 = head | |||
*zhou 州= region, province (very common in ancient China!)
*gang 港 = port | |||
*wan 灣 = bay | |||
*lin 林 = forest | |||
*jing 京 = capital / big city (IRL, Beijing = North Capital)
Directional: | |||
*dong 東 = east | |||
*nan 南 = south | |||
*xi 西 = west | |||
*bei 北= north | |||
Many of these combinations are used in real world (eg: North of the Lake = Wubei.). So for BM map I would have to choose some fancier , more ancient words. Also it is better to relate places on map
For instance: | |||
The Eastern Island on the map
*Donghaiwei = 東海衛 (Fort on the Eastern seas) (looks not so good in Chinese, okay in English sound though)
*Linhai 臨海 (By the sea) | |||
*Longjing 龍京 = Dragon Capital / City (again rare in Chinese..but okay in English)
*Yunxian 雲山 = Cloudy Mountain...
or | |||
*Chaiyunxian 彩雲山 = Visual sensational Cloudy Mountain ..hmm...
Wuyuan武玄 = Related to Battle, no geographic meaning but looks cool
More to come. I need to think awhile...hmm |
