By my count, we have 356 names already!
....Moebius November 2, 2005 06:36 (CET)

The more the better. There might be some names already appeared on other continents. Fantasy style of names will be considered first, since I have pointed that out on the name-collecting message sent to the D-list. Distinctive names will also be considered first. It is recommended that everybody rearranges your own list so that the names you like most be at the start of the list, thus at least you will have your favorite names go into the map. -- Gsklee 2 November 2005 06:42 (CET)

In reply to the Discussion list question about restoring everything that has just been lot here, don't worry. All someone has to do is look at the previous saved version in the History of this page. I would do it mself, but I would undoubtedly manage to screw it up further ;) --Roy 3 November 2005 14:37 (CET)

There is a problem (dunno should call it bug or not) in BM Wiki... that is when there are two or more users editing the same page simultaneously, there will not be a warning message sent to the second user when he trys to submit like the one you will get on English Wikipedia, and the whole page will just go disappear. Quite strange it is. -- Gsklee 3 November 2005 14:44 (CET)

When will this continent start? I'm really anxious to play in it. Shoenaemaeh 10 November 2005 19:08 (CET)

Forging a name!

Haha! The Tian family shall forge their name in the history of the West Continent!

And, now that that's out, I am very eager to try myself out on this new continent. Speaking of which, what's it like when a new realm starts? Is every region rogue or something?

  • I assume there will be some realsm set up by the Titans or people like them testing it out, like they did with FEI -- Ghostly
Your proposals are late but fortunately I was able to move out a place for one of them. Next time be quick when you see a deadline is there ;) -- Gsklee 13 November 2005

04:48 (CET) I was planning on not even placing a name, so I wouldnt have been too bothered if I didnt get it in. Thanks for excepting it this late, I suppose. -- Ghostly

Muspelheim???

Isn't that super ship dual aircraft carrier in the PS2 game warship gunner 1 & 2?? Shenron

Not Amused

Is there a reason we have 10+ regions and cities in the west named after country music artists? --Morningstar 17:13, 21 August 2007 (CEST)

Hmm, you're right, the submissions by 'Marc J.' are all based on cleverly tweaked country music star names... Does seem kinda lame. Malitia 17:54, 21 August 2007 (CEST)

Does it matter? I mean, we have regions named after the contributors to the project... is that lame too? --The1exile 18:07, 21 August 2007 (CEST)

I don't have a real problem with some of the contributors having a little claim on the map. I wouldn't have done it myself, no. And Tom hasn't named anything Vogtville. But that's definitely apples to oranges you're comparing. I like to keep my real world references away from my in character gaming. And, so nobody assumes this is just because I don't like country music (though I don't), I also don't like that we have a region named Dantooine (Star Wars). Grympen Mire is even a little iffy to me (Hound of the Baskervilles). All of this is no different from naming a city Gondor or a forested area the "Hundred Acre Wood". It lacks creativity and will certainly evoke certain images and assumptions about the place based on what people's ideas are of the person/place it is referencing. --Morningstar 20:41, 21 August 2007 (CEST)

Real world references haven't been avoided in the past. Kalmar (EC) is a city in Sweden. York (Ata) is a city in England, UK. Ypsilanti (Bel) is a city in Michigan, US. Shanandoah (EC) is like Shenandoah which is the name of a river, a few towns, and a famous army from the American Civil war. Barad Falas (Ata) is from two LOTR terms. Sirion (EC) is a LOTR river.

To not use a few real-world references in Dwilight would be breaking tradition. --Alex 01:35, 22 August 2007 (CEST)

There is a large difference between 'jabbaton' or 'lewinskiville' and 'york' or 'shenandoah'. I don't even have a problem with Dantooine or Sirion since at least they are places in their worlds, but 'Faithill' (Faith Hill the singer) is just stupid and takes away from the games mystique. Naming after places is cool, but obvious personality references...not so muchMalitia 02:44, 22 August 2007 (CEST)

I don't mind references to RL places (better if the region isn't well known), but it's hard to be comfortable with references to people, especially when so poorly disguised as "Faithill". Too late for that, though. -Chénier 04:10, 22 August 2007 (CEST)

Uh... frankly, If i saw a place called "Faith Hill" I'd think that there was potential to RP it as a hill with a temple on it, not of an obscure singer :-) --The1exile 14:55, 22 August 2007 (CEST)

This complaint itself is lame. You can choose to not play on it if you don't like it, or you could point out these hidden meanings way back while we were still doing with the names. Complaining now certainly adds nothing - the map's already done two years ago and it will not change however you try being picky now. Live on with it. -- Gsklee 02:34, 25 August 2007 (CEST)

I hadn't really intended on playing on it. I was merely visiting some of the pages related to it on the wiki, as I hadn't payed any attention to it since the map was first declared a wonder by the members of the d-list. I hadn't realized that it was my sole responsibility to weed out silly names and real world references. Surely the whole purpose of having this be a "community project" was to have many eyes watching and many hands working. I simply pointed out what I thought to be a glaring oversight on the part of the ones, well, overseeing. Getting defensive about it also adds nothing. Though it does make me even less interested in anything related to this project. --Morningstar 00:02, 26 August 2007 (CEST)

You can stop whining here if you are not interested. -- Gsklee 11:34, 28 August 2007 (CEST)

With all due respect, Gsklee. But it is blatantly rude to simply dismiss someone's argument. Morningstar's opinion can't simply be dismissed as whining, that doesn't prove anything. If you want to prove your point, lay out your points in a simple paragraph. If you want nothing to do with it. Ignore the discussion, but I don't think it is respectful to dismiss someone's opinion so easily. -- Shenron

Arguments dismissed because everything about the map has been and should be done/concluded/put to rest two years ago. Frankly if this continues any further, I will ask for a protection to this page; it has been clearly indicated that this article now exists only to serve a purpose as a reference. -- Gsklee 16:06, 31 August 2007 (CEST)

Did anyone ask for the map to be changed? No, they didn't. Just simply discussing it. Why is that a problem? Shenron 16:14, 31 August 2007 (CEST)

It's a problem because it isn't a flowery "I love everything about this island" comment. And so the major contributors are getting their feelings hurt, regardless the truth of the comments in question. As a game designer myself, I know firsthand that the gut reaction to criticism of something you've invested lots of time into is a defensive verbal backlash and immediate dismissal. Unfortunately, to provide a truly superb product, one has to often suck it up and realize that someone else may in fact be right. Even more unfortunate is that too many people are unable to do that. Seriously, even an "Oops, we hadn't noticed. The joke's on us, but it's too late to fix" would have been an adequate response. --Morningstar 23:15, 5 September 2007 (CEST)
