BREAKING NEWS: MALICE, KING OF ASH SEA ISLANDS
The Honorable Malice, Baron of Mapo has been crowned King of Ash Sea Islands receiving 29.2% of the vote in a hotly contested decision. The Honorable Talius Sargeras, former King, received a substantial 21.3% of the vote. Long Live King Malice, Long Live our fair realm.
Falasan Declares War on Abington
Falasan has supported ASI in its efforts to recover the islands and has proven a good and honorable friend. Many troop leaders in ASI feel a great debt of gratitude toward Falasan. But now Falasan has declared war on Abington for its own reasons and for its own honor and this newspaper will support them.
Influx of Troop Leaders
Many new soldiers and leaders have chosen to take up arms on behalf of ASI. Many of these are refugees from the colony of Kybcyell or those from other realms who wish to raise their swords against Abington.
Miscommunication in Wynford
Confusion on the battlefield led to an unexpected, and bitter, defeat in Wynford. With so many new units in the armies, communication and coordination suffered. New troop leaders and old hands as well performed poorly leading to an uncoordinated and fragmentary insertion of forces into the battle and failure to take advantage of defensive fortifications. Thankfully, the battle took place on enemy territory rather than on the home ground. ASI has a long history of military excellence and precision on the battlefield. Efforts are underway to correct the problem and assure that it does not recur. ASI simply cannot afford to rely on numbers alone without reference to quality.
Manu, Marshall of Sullenport Steps Aside
Lord Manu's stormy tenure as Marshall of Sullenport has ended with his resignation. Lord Manu encountered various criticisms for his leadership style and vocal manner. Despite his active nature and his obvious desire to serve, he was unable to gain traction with the rank and file and wisely set aside his ambitions temporarily for the good of the realm. Some of the criticisms had merit, but some were the children of overheated emotions. Regardless of differences, one cannot criticize Lord Manu's zeal to serve his realm.
Gabriel Leaves Abington, Finds Forgiveness in ASI
The much despised Gabriel, former King of Abington, has left that realm and joined the realm of Darka. Abington newspapers indicated that he was charged with treason there. Word was out on the streets in ASI that Gabriel was in trouble there and was seeking a new home. This shocking news led to various discussions about whether Gabriel should be offered refuge in ASI. Amazingly, the general sentiment seemed to be that this man, greatly responsible for ASI's "Time of Troubles", should be granted refuge, sanctuary, and a second chance. Before the debate could become reality, Gabriel found a new home in Darka.
King's Frustration Spurs Political Change
King Doc's Revenge Primus has informed the realm that political change may be needed. The King has indicated that diplomatic issues are at a standstill and that it is difficult for him to push forward. Much debate has taken place in ASI as to potential successors should the King step aside. Some of this has been borne out of the rhetoric against the King by Abington's leadership. King DRP has been so reviled in Abington that it would be almost impossible for him to make any diplomatic forays that had the slightest chance of being viewed rationally.
Oddly enough, King DRP has not been part of the growing "hard-line" faction against Abington, though he is portrayed that way within Abington itself. The Abington leadership may find that it has to deal with the REAL hardline faction soon and might regret their mud-slinging against King DRP.
Count Norel Defeats Richard of Abington in A Duel to the Death
A duel was held between the honorable Richard of Abington and Norel, Count of Yacon. Richard fought in the place of Aeneas of Abington who declined challenge. The honorable Richard received nothing but praise from Norel and the ASI rank and file for his actions and most honorable death. A letter was sent by Count Norel to Aeneas placing ignoble fault for the death of Richard on Aeneas.
