Recommendations can be given to commoners for their services. Once he has gathered enough recommendations (three usually, see below), a commoner can become a noble.

Recommendations can disappear under some circumstances, most importantly when the one giving it disappears and can no longer be asked. That means that in most circumstances, commoners will have to gain more than three recommendations.
