| Queen Evangeline has announced a tournament to be held in Aix. The tournament will host both swordfighting and jousting. The entry fee is 20 gold, with a top prize of 800 gold, and a second prize of 300 gold.

| Nobility Questioned, Titles Stripped!

| Queen Evangeline has questioned the nobility of Sir Austin, Marquis of Bescanon. As a result, Sir Austin has been removed from his lordship of Bescanon. A few nobles of Perdan have questioned the actions of the Queen, and a small number of nobles have lodged formal protest. Many nobles have also stepped forward to defend the Queen's decisive actions to protect the realm, and have labeled Sir Austin a traitor to the realm. In a message to the realm, Queen Evangeline noted Sir Austin's disrespect for the authority of the Queen, his liege lord Duke Nightmare, and the Arch Priestess, as well as his mismanagement of the region of Bescanon, and possible plans to defect, taking the region of Bescanon with him to a different realm. Sir Austin has also failed to respond to numerous queries that he explain his actions regarding the construction of a Temple of Sagarmathism in Bescanon.
Following the removal of Sir Austin from the office of Marquis, Duke Nightmare selected Prince Maelg as the new Marquis. He was appointed the next in a small ceremony. Immediately following the ceremony Prince Maelg extended invitations for the realm to join him in a celebration at the Blind Buzzard in Bescanon. Prince Maelg vacated the office of Count of Dimwood in order to take up the office of Marquis of Bescanon. Duke Screndt has not yet announced the name of the noble who will be appointed as the new Count of Dimwood.

| Sagarmathism Expands Its Borders

| Lord Austin, Marquis of Bescanon has recently constructed a temple of Sagarmathism. The construction of this temple has aroused the ire of Queen Evangeline, Duke Nightmare, and many other nobles of Perdan. Sagarmathism is a worship of the mountains of the Eldoret Range, and was founded by Prime Minister Ryan, ruler of Ubent. Many nobles wonder what could have caused Lord Austin to turn to the worship of the mountains, and what business such a religion has in the coastal plains of Perdan, where mountains can hardly be seen.
Marquis Austin's brother Firebrand is a noble of Ubent, and is suspected to hold a high position in their hierarchy. It has also been noted that Prime Minister Ryan's kin, Lord Hrothgar, is the Count of Meuse, a region of Caligus that lays between Bescanon and Ubent. Is this apparently newfound religious zeal some form of expansionist plan of Ubent's? Prime Minister Ryan, the leader of the Sagarmatists, has been quoted in the past as stating that Sagarmathism is a religion of the mountains, and will not expand beyond the borders of Ubent.
We know that such claims, however, are not completely true. Sagarmatist priests have been spotted preaching in the region of Meuse for any months. Count Hrothgar, the lord of Meuse, did not inform the Caligan government of such preachings. Nor did the Sagarmatists discuss the matter with the Caligan government. Nevertheless, the Sagarmatists have been expanding into Meuse, and now Bescanon. What exactly is the Sagarmatist agenda? Are they a tool of the Ubentian government? Or is the Ubentian government a tool of the Sagarmatists? In any case, the two seem inextricably linked.
Prior to building the temple of Sagarmathism in Bescanon, Marquis Austin approached Queen Evangeline for her blessing to build the temple. Queen Evangeline denied Marquis Austin permission to build the temple without prior approval of the Perdan Senate. Marquis Austin failed to attain such approval. Indeed, he never approached the Senate to obtain approval or even notify the Senate of his plans in any manner at all. A fine of 100 gold pieces was levied upon the Marquis for his disobedience of the Queen. Marquis Austin has so far failed to respond to public calls for an explanation.

| Assassin Apprehended, then Escapes
|
| The rogue assassin Jorel of Kent was captured in Bescanon two days ago during an attempted break-in at the tax offices. During his time in prison, Jorel of Kent admitted in letters to Arch Priestess Balkeese that he had come to Perdan to assassinate several nobles and collect their bounties. In payment for his crimes, Lady Balkeese sentenced Jorel of Kent to execution by hanging.
However, the execution was marred by the escape of Jorel of Kent. Through some as yet unknown method, Jorel of Kent managed to overcome a guard. The guard was disguised as Jorel, drugged, and switched out for Jorel. The deception was not uncovered until after the hapless guardsman was executed in Jorel's place. The city guard has been called out, and a city-wide search is in progress to capture Jorel. His location is unknown, and it is feared he may have escaped the city altogether.
In other news, the other rogue assassin plaguing Perdan, Yaki, was deported by Arch Priest Cartor of Caligus. Yaki attempted the assassination of at least one noble of Perdan, and was caught attempting to steal gold from the tax offices of Caligus.

| Goodbye Lord Cesare!
|
| Today all of Perdan is in mourning over the departure of our long-time Royal Treasurer, Cesare Salinado. Lord Cesare was the driving force behind feeding the commoners of Perdan despite a large shortage of Perdan's food supply. Lord Cesare was unavoidably called away on family business, leading to a sudden retirement from public service. In fact, Lord Cesare has disappeared altogether from Perdan. We hope that some day he may return.
After a long, and somewhat tumultuous, search, Queen Evangeline has announced the appointment of Lord Fire Fox Wylie as the new Royal Treasurer of Perdan. Lord Fire Fox was appointed immediately following the stepping down of Lord Cesare. Lord Fire Fox will have a difficult task in feeding the commoners of Perdan, but he is confident that he can meet the demands of his new office.
