The Church of Sartan/Ranks and Members

Ranks

Here is a list of all the Ranks of the Church of Sartan. The Aspirant Ranks are used for Commoners and new Nobles. The Full Member Ranks are used for most Nobles. The highest Full Member Ranks are reserved for Priests. Promotions are earned through showing dedication towards the Church. The Elder Ranks are reserved for the Leaders of the Church, Missionaries, Advisers and highly regarded Priests.

The Elder Ranks

The Prophet - The founder and religious primary of the Church of Sartan- Unelected, but rather appointed through conception of the ecclesiastical church. This position can only change hands in the time of death.
High Priest - Leaders of the Church of Sartan, especially since the Church currently has no Prophet. They handle all affairs, though mostly with the agreement of the other Elder Members. Their archdiocese can either be a physical one or a purely spiritual one.
Keeper of the Flame - The greatest heroes and defenders of the Church. They keep the Flame of Sartan alive and defend it against all enemies.
Archbishop - These are elders who have been trusted with a spiritual dominion over an archdiocese.
Cardinal - These are elder priests who are not tied to any particular area. Instead they travel far and wide, tending to the faithful and spreading the word of Sartan.

Full Member Ranks

Bishop - A member of the church given spiritual authority over a diocese of a city and the surrounding regions. This is combined, where possible with a legal title within that realm for example as a duke. The Bishop takes charge of and runs all matters of the church within his diocese.
Guardian of the Church - Our most skilled sword fighter who defends the honour of the Church through challenging all those who despise it. Only one member can hold the rank of Guardian and the position can only be earned through defeating the current holder in a duel (till surrender).
Dean - Important priests as well as highly valued noble followers. They are sometimes given spiritual charge over a region or two in a similar manner to a diocese.
Patron of the Mission - Priests that have shown their worth or nobles that have made significant contributions to the church.
Knight of Sartan - Devotees who have shown further dedication to the Church of Sartan.
Prior of the Path - New Priests are first rewarded with this Rank. Further dedication to the Church will allow Promotions.
Devotee - Aspirants who have shown that they are devoted enough to be called full members.

Aspirant Ranks

Follower - New Members that have said they will follow our Church. They are mostly quickly promoted towards Full Member.
