Yggdramir (pronounced: yig-dra-MEER) is the region that stands between the capital of Everguard - Valkyrja - and the regions to both the east and west. The only way to reach the capital city is over one of the two bridges that combine the lands.

The bridge to the west is called the Razhuul Pass and the bridge leading in from the east is known as the Glemian Bridge. The boarders of each bridge envoy masses of treasures and luxuries into Everguard - luxuries such as herbs, spices, silks, salts and a wide manner of strange items.

This was the second region conquered by Everguard as they expanded west in the days following the founding of the realm in Valkyrja - and represents the very first region taken after Everguard came into existance. As such, the region holds a special place in the hearts of most guardians. Though under constant threat from monsters, the people of Yggdramir are content and safe at the fact that Everguard controls the only two ways in and out of the land.

Climate

The rolling fields of inland Yggdramir

Yggdramir is a rural area of beautiful land and wild animals and plants. The climate of the region is rather mild, but it does occasionally have extreme weather. The climate is typically insular, and as a result of the moderating moist winds which ordinarily prevail from the north-western great sea, it is temperate, avoiding the extremes in temperature of many other global areas sharing similar latitudes.

Precipitation falls throughout the year, but is light overall, particularly in the east. The west, however, tends to be wetter on average and prone to the full force of northern-oceanic storms, more especially in the late autumn and winter months, which occasionally bring destructive winds and high rainfall totals to these areas, as well as snow and hail. Yggdramir has a higher incidence of lightning than many of the northern regions of Dwilight. For all its moderate climate, Yggdramir does experience a large amount of snow, though the accompanying temperatures are typically tolerable.

Inland areas of Yggdramir are warmer in summer, and colder in winter than the coast - there are usually around 40 days of below freezing temperatures, but only 10 days at the coast. Yggdramir is sometimes affected by heat waves as well.

Trade through Yggdramir

A marketplace in Yggdramir

As Yggdramir is one of the only regions that combines the two halves of the continent of Dwilight together, it is an immensely important region to continental trade. There is only one way to pass from west to east in the north of Dwilight, and that is through this region. That fact has made the rural region of Yggdramir a highly trafficked are, which houses many ports and harbors which takes in merchants, traders and sailors alike. It has been said that Yggdramir is "the gateway to the west" - when settlers, priests, traders and others come from the more established east to the untamed west, they must come through this region.

Since Everguard has taken control of this region, they, under command of the Count, have created a large series of trade routes and constructed many wayside inns close to the ports and harbors of the region for the merchants to travel through.

Yggdramir is one of the main sources of culture in Everguard. People from both sides of the island visit often and many have begun to migrate to the land. Under the keen supervision of the Count, Yggdramir is slowly but surely becoming a major player in the merchants cards.

Military Culture

Not long after Everguard was founded did Yggdramir follow. The forces of Everguard scoured through Yggdramir and cleansed it of all monsters and undead. It was the realm of Everguard that threw its hands around the region and protected the people from the forces of darkness that once tortured them so.

After the Count was named, a fortress was built in the centre of the region as a main base of operations in the defence of the region, as well as several smaller fortifications around the land in order for the people to have a place to flee to and seek shelter for food, water and protection, should any monsters or undead return.

Politics

The people of Yggdramir are commanded by Lord Vesna Valentine, who has ruled the region since it was originally taken by the kingdom - though for a short time in its early history the peasants did revolt and declare self rule, before Vesna was re-installed as their lord. The forces of Everguard have for a long time watched of the people of Yggdramir, protected them, gave them food, water, wealth and luxury enough to live a decent, healthy life. For this the people of Yggdramir have and always shall hold their loyalties close to Everguard and its people, though they remain amongst the most independent and self-reliant peasants in the realm.
