Yggdramir
Yggdramir (IG-dra-meer) is the region that stands between the stronghold of Valkyrja and the regions to both the east and west. The only way to reach Valkyrja is over one of the two bridges that combine the lands. The bridge to the west is called the Razhuul Pass and the bridge leading in from the east is known as the Dalian Bridge. Yggdramir is unique among the regions of Dwilight because it offers the only land route uniting the east and west halves of the continent.
Yggdramir has seen much strife: originally held by Everguard, it was fought over and won by the realms of both Astrum and Averoth until, after a bitter war, the region finally passed into the care of Summerdale.
Climate
Yggdramir is a rural area of beautiful land and wild animals and plants. The mild climate is typically insular, and as a result of the moderating moist winds which ordinarily prevail from the north-western great sea, it is temperate, avoiding the extremes in temperature that other areas in the same latitude might experience.
Precipitation falls throughout the year in the region, though lightly in the eastern half. The western half, however, tends to be wetter on average and prone to the full force of northern-oceanic storms, more especially in late autumn and during the winter months. These occasional storms bring destructive winds, heavy rainfall, and hail. Yggdramir has a higher incidence of lightning than many of the northern regions of Dwilight.
Rarely, during the summer months, the eastern half may experience heat waves and, with them, droughts.
Trade
As Yggdramir is the only region that unites the two halves of Dwilight with a land route, it is an immensely important region to continental trade, making the rural region a highly-trafficked area. Yggdramir houses many inns and harbors which take in merchants, traders, sailors, and fishermen alike, and has earned the nickname "Gateway to the West," recalling an earlier time when settlers first came from the established east to the then-untamed west.
Though its infrastructure has been recently ravaged by a series of wars, the resilient people of Yggdramir have begun to rebuild. The main exports of Yggdramir are food, wood, and wares. Fertile inland soil and an extensive coastline allow Yggdramir to provide a great deal of grain and fish.
Military
Yggdramir's farmland helps support the stronghold at Valkyrja as the main defense and seat of regional power. Given the strategic value of the region as a choke point, the realm that controls Yggdramir and its stronghold possesses an invaluable tool for defense against invasion. The region, like many in the area, experiences occasional outbreaks of monsters, but these are quickly dealt with by Dalian warriors.
