Rebellion! Arica Maldives is calling for an uprising against the current government! In a passionate speech she said: This

Ravier Nebehn promoted to Marshal 4th October 1011

Understandably Westmoor has been a little shaken over the last few days but now steadily things are perhaps turning back to normal. With long standing member Arica Maldives out of the picture (and out of the country) the position of Marshal has been passed to former Vice Marshal Ravier Nebehn whom we remember fondly for those battles when he led the WC (victoriously) back in August against Fontan. Congratulations were given across the kingdom at his promotion.

This means the post of Vice Marshal is now empty and anyone interested in gaining such a position is urged to write to the Lord General, Marshal Ravier and duke Gregor as soon as possible. Meanwhile the House of Lords has been deep in debate over peace proposals with Fontan and Sirion. You may be happy to know some small modicum of progress has been made but I of course can’t write what that is while it’s still under discussion. Sorry you’ll just have to imagine rainbows cherubim and doves flying about the kingdom waving coloured flags. When its finally all sorted out we'll publish it.

The Rebellion comes to an end 3rd October 1011

With outstanding brutality the remainder of the rebel forces was finally crushed today. Truly this was a tragedy that so many fellow Westmoorians were to fall on each other’s swords. In a closing speech the Rebel leader Arica Maldives called for mercy on the lives of her accomplices Sir Derwin and Sir Vicfalco. She also claimed that Westmoor would be ‘doomed’ if it continued with the same ruler and attacked publicly the Church of Humanity.

Benedictus Tanos was quick to respond:

“Good riddance, traitor and oathbreaker… If you parted in a respectful and tasteful manner, you would have received a respectful and peaceful farewell. However, you decided to again make it nothing but a series of attacks on those who opposed you. Who DARED opposed Arica Maldives's dreams of grandeur and power...”

Noble Rhakanvar Schumacher has now also publicly criticized the king being the fourth noble (disregarding the rebels) to call on the king to abdicate:

“I wish to state that I am in general agreement with the grievances listed by Arica and feel that our King has failed us, if not fully, at least in a sizable portion of his duties… I distrust governments that do not at minimum, inform its people of their actions and intent. Thus, far I have seen little of such communication. I am loyal to Westmoor, not necessarily to the current head of state...”

He also promised symbolically to join the Rebels and call on change in government. Maedros Iltaran king of Westmoor addressed the nobles of the realm briefly today to offer the two accomplices of Arica renewed citizenship should they swear new oaths and allegiance to the king and promised to give a fuller statement tomorrow once the rebellion is declared terminated in Westmoor Court.

Rebel Leader Arica Maldives has been offered sanctuary in Caligus and was seen crossing the border out of Troyes with the remains of her archer guard.

The Heated Debate continues 2nd October 1011

Fighting in the capitol intensified today as the loyalists entered Westmoor city and began to fight back against the Rebel army. The Loyalists nobles Judge Antonius Turner, Ambassador Jor Tanos and Feoran Lionheart all called on Lord General Thomas Foxglove to use the Westmoorian Collumn to crush the rebel army in the capitol however he refused on the grounds of this being a political struggle and on the need to keep Westmoor’s borders on alert against Sirion or Fontan troops.

Noble Sir Hergoervik Draekarne called for the king to stand down after the rebellion is crushed in a long speech claiming that the king was a weak ruler who was not able to defend himself in debate:

“…A strong King should be able to shrug off opposition not with indifference but by actively disproving or elsewise convincing others of the virtue of his opinion… The very fact our present King is seen as weak is because he does none of this. Others carry his arguments for him. Others even speak for him. It is literally like he is not there. That is why we're in this situation. Dereliction of duty…”

Sir Armstrong Irsonsides also suggested that the king was to blame and suggested the rebellion be allowed to succeed to allow the Rebel Leader Arica to fulfil her promise of stepping down (upon vote) to allow a new election for the throne.

Lord Justice Antonius Turner gave a severe warning to any members of the realm considering supporting the rebellion “If you choose to side with the treasonous Arcia, you shall condemn your fate to banishment and exile from your homeland”. He also went on to defend the king saying that although the king was not perfect he believed with support from the house of lords his leadership could improve and called for unity amongst the nobles of Westmoor.

As you can see in the regional news the number of Loyalist troops in the capitol now out numbers the Rebels by almost 3 to 1 so ultimately it is likely only a matter of time before the rebellion is brought to a close.

 Rebellion!! 1st October 1011

In a nutshell I’ve refrained from reporting on the last couple of days as I felt what was going on was an internal issue and wasn’t really the sort of thing that should be published in a newspaper until it had come to a conclusion. Well the cat is certainly out of the bag now so to hades with protocol and let’s try and explain to the rest of the world what on earth has been going on.

A number of nobles have become dissatisfied with the king’s lack of communication to the realm in a wide number of areas (this editor included, I will do my best to stay unbiased but don’t count on it). Thus Count Armstrong Ironsides came up with the idea of a constitution document that would outline responsibilities of the king and make him more dependent on the house of lords. This was met with disprovable by a number of nobles who felt that this constitution was a step or a step in its entirety towards Fontanese democracy. This brought about a large scale argument which has erupted over the last few days between the supporters of the constitution and the supporters of the status quo.

Arica Maldives perhaps the most hot-headed of the pro constitution nobles claimed yesterday in a standoff against the king that it was the fault of king Maedros for his lack of clarity and effort in communicating with foreign powers that was the root of the problem. This led to a backlash by Ambassador Jor who claimed that Arica was to blame for the failed assault on Krimml while she was General. Today Arica called for a rebellion against the king which has been published on the letters page explaining the reasons. Fighting broke out almost immediately over possession of the capitol.

At the end of today the current forces of rebels and loyalists stand thus:

Rebels: Arica Maldives, (Rebel Leader),Derwin Bluestar, Leon Vicfalcon

Loyalist Forces: Maedros Itaren (King),Antonius Turner, Benedictus Tanos, Cowin D’Saferate, Edward Anthony Mercer, Feoran Lionheart, Gaenm ap Gaenvan, Genivae Mailler, George Talratheon, Jacob Veloris, Jonn Kingsley

Twenty Seven nobles remain undecided or refuse to support either side. Fierce fighting erupted today in the morning with the rebels making progress however many nobles have since joined the Loyalist forces including Duke Corwin who has promised to hand out recruitment funds to Loyalists in the capitol. Although the forces supporting the king are large in number and it looks likely that this rebellion will fail the unpopularity of Maedros at this moment in time can clearly be defined by the twenty seven nobles who have not chosen to give him their support in crushing the rebellion. This may of course change over the next few days. Fontan’s chancellor promised not to take military action against us during this rebellion which is perhaps the first honourable thing they have done this entire war.

More on this story as it progresses.
