Dwilight

Kihalin was a noble of great renown, holding titles such as Duke of the Dark Mountains, Marquis of Shrine of Seeklander, and Baron of Chrysantalys Mines. He was also a former member of the Warders of the Island Citadel and a Marshal of the Defenders of the Blood Stars. His skill with a sword was unmatched, being a three-time champion of sword-fighting tournaments and considered one of the best swordsmen of his time. He even joined the crusade against the Saxons of Thulsoma.

Kihalin's passion for sword arts began in his childhood and he dedicated himself to mastering the craft. Seeking greater challenges, he left his home in Sirion to travel to Dwilight, where the monsters and undead were renowned for their strength and cunning. He eventually found his way to the great realm of Astrum, where he swore an oath as a knight of Chrysantalys. Under the command of Duke Sergio, he fought for three years before being appointed as Baron of Chrysantalys Mines. The mines were in a state of disrepair when he took over, but he worked tirelessly to restore them to their former glory.

Despite his initial defeat in a tournament held in Storms Keep, Kihalin was determined to improve. He trained diligently against the monsters and undead of the mountain of Remorse and his hard work paid off when he emerged victorious as the Champion of the Valkyrja tournament. He had proven himself as one of the greatest swordsmen of his time and his reputation as a skilled warrior and leader continues to be remembered to this day.

The Crusade

Kihalin, a skilled swordsman and leader, was captured during the siege of Storms Keep. However, he saw an opportunity to escape and seized it, killing a warden in the process. He then rejoined the battle, leading his men to victory against the Saxons. For his bravery and success in the second crusade, he was awarded the prestigious title of Knight Crusade within the Church of Sanguis Astroism.

Marshal of the Defenders of the Blood Stars

As a Marshal of the Defenders of the Blood Stars, Kihalin was tasked with protecting Astrum from the monstrous threats that lurked in the western regions. When he first took on the role, the DotB was severely undermanned, with only a few active members. Together with Duke Sergio, he set out to rebuild and strengthen the army. Kihalin's strategy was to strike at the monsters before they could reach Astrum's inner regions. However, when he ordered his troops to attack the Mountain of Remorse, he discovered that the monsters were already on the move towards Chrysantalys Mines. Quickly turning his army around, he fought to defend the region. Despite his efforts, with only a handful of active soldiers, it was impossible to secure the mountain regions. The DotB remained undermanned until the invasion of Caerwyn.

Siege of Valkyrja

The Allied armies of Astrum, Morek Empire, Corsanctum, Libero Empire, and Summerdale set out to march towards the capital of Averoth at the beginning of Spring. It was a brutal battle, with both sides suffering heavy casualties. The siege of Valkyja proved to be a bloody affair, as the Allied forces fought tooth and nail to breach the city's walls. In the end, over 800 men lost their lives in the battle, with a total of 1,200 men perishing on both sides.

The Astro-Caerwynian War

The war between the Sanguis Astroism alliance and Caerwyn escalated when Duchess Allison of Morek seceded and formed the realm of Entai, presenting a strategic opportunity for Caerwyn to expand their territory and weaken the Sanguis Astroism. Seeing this opportunity, Caerwyn quickly acted, invading Duil and cutting off the Chrysantalys regions from the rest of Astrum. Kihalin, Sir Cerber, and Duke Sergio were left stranded in the Chrysantalys regions, while the rest of the Defenders of the Blood Stars were stationed in the Eidulb Outskirts, awaiting reinforcements. However, Sir Zor Ironfist disobeyed orders and launched an attack on Duil, but his small force was easily overpowered by the Caerwyn army, which then turned their attention to the Chrysantalys Mines. The trapped members of the DotB were forced to retreat to the fortified city of Chrysantalys to protect themselves from the enemy's advance.

After a ruthless takeover of the Chrysantalys mines, the Caerwynese army retreated to Walefishire. Stratego Sergio ordered an attack on the mines. In the ensuing battle, Kihalin encountered Lord Brom, whom he had previously met in tournaments and at the guild house of Path of the Sword. Kihalin challenged Lord Brom to a duel, but the request was denied. Following the battle, Kihalin stepped down from his position as marshal and became a vice-marshal of the defenders, as Lady Allison took over the role.

After laying waste to Averoth, the SA alliance set their sights on Caerwyn, vanquishing their opponents in the strategic townland of Walefishire. Despite months of successful battles, the SA alliance ultimately succeeded in driving Caerwyn to the brink of starvation, leading to widespread rebellion and turmoil within the kingdom. As the situation in Caerwyn worsened many of its nobles chose to leave their homeland to join other realms in the south. With the fall of Golden Ferrow, the capital of Caerwyn, the kingdom quickly crumbled. It was clear that Caerwyn was no match for the formidable SA alliance and their threats proved to be empty and unable to provide a worthy challenge. In comparison, Averoth had proven to be a more formidable opponent. With Caerwyn conquered, the SA alliance gained control of the northern half of the central sea routes, paving the way for further expansion to the south through the central sea.

During the conflict, Kihalin primarily focused on defending the northern regions against relentless waves of monstrous invaders.

Duke of Shrine of Seeklander / Duke of the Dark Mountains

After earning second place in his fifth tournament held in Paisly, Kihalin was appointed as the Duke of Shrine of Seeklander. In his new role, Kihalin was tasked with preventing waves of monsters from entering the eastern plain regions. As the council reformed the Defenders, Kihalin joined the army to aid in the defense of the southern regions and the retaking of Chrysantalys regions. During his reign, Kihalin oversaw the construction of five recruitment centers and nine infrastructure projects in Shrine of Seeklander, making the stronghold one of the most militarily significant regions in Astrum. After winning the second tournament of Golden Farrow (the first tournament held by Kabrinskia), Kihalin began a period of meditation and resigned from all his positions.

Return to Astrum

Kihalin returned from a long period of meditation (10 months) to fight against the heathen realm of Asylon. However, by the time he reached the battlefield, Vasilif Sergio was already negotiating a peace treaty with Asylon. Kihalin and some of his younger peers disagreed with Vasilif Sergio's decision, but Sergio gave them only a brief explanation for why Astrum was signing the treaty.

After returning from the campaign, Kihalin was appointed as the new Count of Ammando to oversee the region. However, soon after his appointment, Kihalin joined a new Crusade led by the new regent Mordaunt, which ended abruptly. Realizing the campaign had ended before he even reached Terran, Kihalin decided to participate in a tournament held by Queen Alice of Luria Nova.

After the Lurian tournament, Duchess Gelene held a tournament in her city to celebrate Duke Karibash's 80th birthday. Kihalin participated in the tournament to honor his friend, but unfortunately lost to Lord Linden.

Strategos

The First Term

After the tournament, King Leopold of Niselur declared war on Astrum, immediately invading Forguthrie to start a TO of the region. Astrum's armies were stationed in Duil by Strategos Antierre's order. But when no enemies were in sight for days. Feeling frustrated, Kihalin created a new army, the Judgement of Austere to deal with Niselur. He gathered nobles who were lords and knights of the northern Astrum to fill the spots in his army, but unfortunately for him, it took awhile for him to gather all his members. While he was waiting for his men to gather, Strategos Antierre stepped down to let Kihalin lead the armies of Astrum instead. Kihalin ordered the Defenders of the Blood Stars in Duil to gather in Eidulb Outskirts to prepare an offensive campaign against Niselur. Once the armies were ready, Kihalin ordered everyone to gather in Gelene Outskirts where they waited Exarch Justus of Corsanctum and his men. The combined armies marched to Jorradith where they attacked Gaston Farms where they met the Niselurian army in the Battle of Gaston Farms.

After a full refit, Kihalin ordered Astrumites to attack Walefishire. The Battle of Walefishire, however, failed and Astrum lost 45% of her mobile strength while Asylon lost only half of that. After the battle, Kihalin decided to stick with his original plan and ordered both armies to focus on dealing with Niselur. He sent the Defenders to take back Zereth while ordered the Judgement to attack Farronites in Libiddo. The Judgement quickly defeated Farronites in the Skirmish of Libiddo and by the time they finished preparing themselves to head north, Niselurians impatiently attacked the Defenders in Zereth. Niselurians were defeated in the Battle of Zereth where most of their men were slaughtered while Astrumites and Corsanctumites stood strong. Kihalin ordered the Defenders to continue the take over.

After the take over, the Defenders of the Blood Stars was ordered to return while the Judgement was ordered to attack Jorradith. However, Niselur refitted much quicker than Kihalin anticipated. Niselur's vanguard attacked the vanguard of the Judgement, defeating a couple nobles of the Judgement. However, Lord Adrian managed to slay Lord Zach of Under Darfix before retreating. Kihalin immediately pulled everyone back to deal with Asylon and Farronite Republic in Duil after the small skirmish.

When Kihalin and his army arrived in Eidulb Outskirts, Kihalin found out that Marshal Turin ordered a premature attack on Duil, which had 14,000 CS of enemies, with only 9,000 CS. Kihalin ordered people who were about to arrive in Duil to turn back while ordering people in Ediulb Outskirts for a full day attack on Duil. Marshal Turin and some members of Corsanctum could not turn around in time and were forced to fight a hopeless battle in which they helped Farronites realize they were still at peace with Corsanctum which disallowed them from fighting Astrum and Corsanctum. Farronites adjusted their diplomatic relation with Corsanctum to neutral before the battle. At the following sunset, 19,000 CS of Astrum and Corsanctum attacked 14,000 CS of Asylon and Farronite Republic in a battle later known as the Massacre of Duil.

After the massacre, Astrum attacked Walefishire to chase the shattered armies of Asylon and Farronites. Astrum defeated them again in the Battle of Walefishire II, capturing and wounding several of Asylonian and Farronite nobles. It was a major victory for Astrum, buying themselves enough time to fight Niselur which has been pestering their north. Kihalin led a few members to hunt down retreating Asylonians to Dunnbrook where they fought the Skirmish of Dunnbrook. King of Asylon fled the region before Kihalin and his men could capture him. The southern campaign ended with the skirmish and Astrumites returned to Eidulb for a full refit.

With the refit, Astrum's mobile CS surpassed 25,000 CS which allowed Astrum to be more flexible as they had enough men to actually fully utilize both of their armies. When Astrum gathered in Sabadell, Niselur was in Ygg d'Razhuul looting the region. Kihalin ordered the vanguard of his armies to attack Gaston Farms. Niselur tried to beat Astrum to the region but both realms arrived in the region at the same time, ending up fighting in the Skirmish of Gaston Farms and Battle of Gaston Farms II. While more men arrived in Gaston Farms following three days for Astrum, Niselur's divided army were forced to go through Gaston Farms. By doing so, what was left of their army was completely destroyed which made them rebuild their army from the scratch. While Niselurians were rebuilding their army, Astrum looted Gaston Farms, Jorradith, Ienith, Asurbanipal to the ground. Gaston Farms and Jorradith went rogue after a few days.

In the following campaign, Kihalin sent the Judgement to the north while sending the Defenders to the south. The Judgement mostly worked on retaking Zereth. The Defenders, on the other hand, focused on looting Farronite Republic. The Defenders looted Knyazes, Grazne, and Mozyr. They eventually attacked Farrowfield where they fought in the Battle of Farrowfield and Battle of Farrowfield II. Unfortunately, the Defenders could not stay in Farrowfield long enough to damage the region severely. While Astrum was fighting Niselur and Farronite Republic, Asylonians took Wallershire and Vyanar.

After the southern campaign against Farronite Republic, Armies of Astrum turned their swords toward the north against Niselur. The northern campaign started with the take over of Forguthrie. It took full four days for the armies to take Forguthrie, forcing Astrum to march into Niselur during winter. After the take over, Astrumites moved into Gaston Farms where they met almost no resistance from Niselurians. From Gaston Farms, Astrumites split their armies into two, sending one toward Darfix while sending the rest to rural regions of Niselur. Within four days, the Judgement reached Under Darfix where they fought a few guards who did not stand a chance against the well equipped army. After a few hours of looting, the Judgement attacked Darfix. However, due to a sudden blizzard, the Judgement couldn't reach Darfix until two days later where they fought in the Siege of Darfix. By the time the Judgement started to loot Darfix, the Defenders arrived in Under Darfix to loot the region. For a couple days, both armies of Astrum looted Darfix and Under Darfix but they could not stay too long due to a starvation caused by the constant looting. Kihalin ordered everyone to gather in Under Darfix before heading back to Astrum. Interestingly, Niselurians decided to attack the Defenders in Under Darfix while the Judgement was moving out of Darfix to return home. Both, the Judgement and the Defenders, met Niselurians in the Battle of Under Darfix where Niselurians were outnumbered heavily. Without the walls to protect their men, Niselurians were quickly slaughtered. After the battle, Astrumites began their long march back to home. On the way home, they stopped Niselurians from taking Gaston Farms by attacking their take over force.

In the following campaign, Astrum sent the majority of their forces against Asylon. Asylonians managed to gather 17k CS in Walefishire to face Astrum while Astrum only managed 20k CS to fight against them. Although Astrum had enough siege engines, Kihalin ordered his marshals to lead troop leaders around Walefishire to force Asylonians to leave the fortification in Walefishire. By the time Astrum gathered most of their men in Knyazes, Asylonians finished moving their men to Dunnbrook. Once 16k CS arrived in Knyazes, Kihalin ordered everyone to attack Dunnbrook, expecting people moving from Duil to Knyazes to be in the region before the attack. However, many of them were delayed and Astrum had to fight Asylonians with 80% of their strength. Kihalin ordered everyone to hold their ground and fight to the last man. As the sun rose, a battle later known as the Massacre of Dunnbrook took place on the field of Dunnbrook. Before the clash, Asylonians insulted Astrumites continuously, hoping to break the spirits of Astrumites but it was their futile attempt to cover their poor discipline. Astrumites completely decimated Asylonian armies and chased them to Elets where Asylonians retreated to. Unfortunately, Kihalin was wounded by an Asylonian archer unit and could not order his men to assault Walefishire. While Kihalin was wounded, Astrumites chased Asylonians down to far south, giving enough room for Niselurians to loot Northern Astrum. A small army led by Duke Karibash was dispatched to deal with Niselurian raiders and when the army attacked Zereth, Duchess Melania managed to slay Kas the mad in a skirmish. After the campaign, Kihalin retired due to his injuries and Marshal Turin succeeded him as the Strategos of Astrum.

The Second Term

After being away for several decades, Kihalin returned to his ruined homeland to help Astrum achieve her former glory. Not long after his reinstatement by the nobility of Astrum, Luria Boreal declared war on Astrum without a valid cause. Kihalin quickly divided Astrum into two armies and set sailed toward Luria Boreal to strike their hearts. After 4 days of sea travel, the Austere Order arrived in the shores of Thar Gortauth. After quickly crushing few guards defending the coast, Kihalin led his army deeper into Borealian heartland to strike the capital of Luria Boreal. The defending force around the city was quickly subdued, opening the way to the city.

By the following sunset, the Austere Order breached the walls of Shinnen, the heart of Luria Boreal. It took the army longer to get to Luria Boreal than reach the capital. But unfortunately, Kihalin took a poisonous arrow to his knee which threatened his life. While he was suffering from his injury, his army fell to disarray and wasted time in Shinnen but soon Vice Marshal Phillip reorganized the army to damage infrastructures of the city. The walls began to come down slowly while some wondered throughout the city to take gold away from Borealian nobility's hands. When Kihalin finally recovered, he restricted looting to minimum, only allowing Vice Marshal Phillip to do to perform it while ordering others to damage the walls.

While Borealian nobles were hiding somewhere in the city, Shinnen's peasants tried to repel Astrumites multiple times only to be slaughtered quickly. When the city was completely decimated, Luria Boreal's banker contacted Astrum stating Borealians desire to surrender.

After returning to Astrum, he prepared a large preparation. His original plan was to head for Darfix but Westgard denied any access to go through their lands. To show their resolution, they broke away from their alliance with Astrum. A war almost broke out but the situation settled rather quickly. Not long after the incident, Kihalin and his western expedition force headed to Western Dwilight to fight monsters and try to claim what was left by Asylon when they abandoned their realm.

Soon after his return, Avernus' king went on a frenzy and tried to devour what was left of Morek. His old friend Katrina fell ill and disappeared. Corellon the Mad decided it was his chance to destroy Morek. When neighbouring realms warned him not to attack Morek, Corellon declared war on them claiming his realm, Avernus, had the power to take on all realms. Kihalin simply ignored the mad man's plans and sent his expedition north to claim riches left by his another former enemy, Niselur.

The northern expedition was a lot easier than the western expedition. There were less monsters and the distance to the city was a lot shorter. The biggest problem was the morale loss. Kihalin forgot about Gaston Farms not being a townsland. Kihalin ended up losing all of his men. He had to head back home without a single man he brought from Astrum.

After the northern expedition, Kihalin ordered Astrumites to take over Eidulb, the old capital of Astrum. The city was under Westgardian hands until they were pushed out by monsters. The monsters continued to push into Libidizedd but they were quickly repelled by Astrumites. Eidulb was quickly fortified after being reclaimed. Another expedition followed after the Eidulb campaign to reach Chrysantalys but it was not as fruitful as other campaigns.

Upon returning from the third expedition, Astrum focused on establishing more defenses in Eidulb. While they were working on the city, Aarn Hemmings of Westgard began to preach illegally in the city which caused a tension between Astrum and Westgard. However, after causing much damage to the relation between Astrum and Westgard, Aarn ran from Westgard and disappeared into the mountains. Westgard's new ruler Rosalind Foxglove was more reasonable and was willing to work together with Astrum. It brought stability in the northern west regions which helped Astrum turn her attention elsewhere.

The Astro-Helygian War

First Campaign

Once the western front stabilized, Kihalin turned his attention to Astrum's former enemy Helyg Derwyddon. The plan began with drafting terms of surrender for HD for aiding Lurians during their invasion on Astrum which ended with the birth of Westfold. Astrum was in good terms with Westfold surprisingly due to having almost zero tension between two realms despite their past. The King of Westfold showed no interest in aiding their ally HD against Astrum which opened a way for Astrum to fight HD alone. Astrum struck first, decimating what little defense HD put up in Donghai. A day later, Astrum attacked HD's capital Donghaiwei and crushed its defenders quickly. HD rushed back to their capital but the most of them were slaughtered in their own city until Kihalin ordered his army to loot the city which angered 4,870 peasants to take up their tools against the army of Astrum. They fought until 1200 were killed and 700 were left for dead. Out of desperation, a commoner of HD tried to summon daimons to guard HD but he only ended up summoning some monsters which were slaughtered along the peasants. However, Kihalin ordered his army to pull out of the city as too many of his men were suffering from exhaustion and equipment damage. Helygians celebrated and called it a great victory when they saw Astrumites leaving the city to refit. Astrumites laughed at HD's proclamation of victory and slowly headed back to their homeland to prepare the second campaign against HD.

Second Campaign

The second campaign started with Astrumites gathering in Mamaroneck to strike Cailyn. Kihalin moved ahead of his army to clean up the remaining militias that survived the last campaign. Once they gathered in Donghai, Kihalin ordered his men to attack Donghaiwei which was fortified with over 2,000 men (over 25,000 CS). Helygians raised the militia strength to 29,000 CS which was too overwhelming for Astrum to handle. After losing 300 men, they were repelled. Kihalin, realizing how difficult the siege was going to be, ordered his men to begin TOing HD's regions to deny Helygians of resources. Helygians tried to stop this by repeatedly attacking Donghai but with their insignificant army, they could not accomplish much. What finally ended the war was the capture of Elrohir the Daimon Worshiper. Upon his capture, Elwing surrendered and Vasilif Dragomir decided to give them generous terms which Kihalin objected. But the terms were already sent and the only action Kihalin could do was to protest Dragomir. Once the situation was settled, the peace was signed and both realms moved on.

The Monster Invasion

Soon after the war, monsters showed some strange changes. They became numerous than before and more aggressive. Eidulb which managed to slaughter monsters even before they could touch the walls before could not longer repel the evil creatures without some additional support from its lord or the main army. Kihalin quickly assembled his men in Eidulb and soon witnessed what was attacking the city. What he saw was a sea of monsters, hitting the walls of the city like a tidal wave.

However, when more people arrived to fight the monsters, they were slaughtered by hundreds. Soon, Kihalin led his army out of the city to stop them even before they could reach the city. Kihalin and the Western Expedition gathered in Eidulb Outskirts, which once symbolized Astrum's perseverance, was attacked from multiple sides all at once. Over a week of time, Astrumites slaughtered 2,118 monsters (178,504 CS) while losing 150 men.

Unfortunately for Astrum, her D'Haran allies were suffering greatly. They lost their western most city, Port Raviel, to 80,000 CS of monsters. Port Nebel, their capital, was attacked by 60,000 CS of monsters three times over a few days. D'Harans managed to hold their capital but it cost them dearly.

Knowing the importance of D'Hara's role in fighting against monsters, Kihalin decided to send the main army to aid them in reclaiming Port Raviel which could be used to stem ever increasing hordes of monsters.

A Sudden Disappearance

After aiding D'Harans, Kihalin marched with his army to aid Westgard. On his way to Westgard, he mysteriously disappeared with his men. Some say he was ambushed by monsters while others say he saw a glimpse of Mathurin the Prophet and chased after him with his men.

Final Words

Kihalin dedicated his life to Astrum and for the glory of the Blood Stars. Although he never became a significant political figure, he left an enduring legacy behind for many Astrumite generals to follow by leaving great recruitment centers and strong armies.

The Ruined Palace of the Vasilifs is a well preserved palace complex which was once a home of several Vasilifs. Most Vasilifs of Astrum spent their time in this palace until Vasilif Sergio had to abandon the city due to the Great Monster Invasion. The palace complex looks quite desolate with only a few large buildings scattered across the site but most visitors can still see the glimpse of the old Astrumite architecture.
