Rights and Responsibilities of Carelian Nobles

General:

  1. Nobles are responsible for knowing the contents of all Realm Bulletins.
  2. Nobles are expected to behave with honour and courtesy in their converse and other dealings with their realm mates.
  3. Nobles are expected to remember that their behaviour reflects upon Carelia and to take care in their dealings with members of other realms.
  4. Nobles are free to practice the faith of their choice.
  5. Duelling is a matter of personal honour and therefore not a matter for the courts. Nobles are, however, discouraged from duelling against their realm mates in war time. Your energies are better directed against our enemies.
  6. Nobles have the right to express their opinions. Courteous debate and discussion of Realm issues is encouraged. Remember, however, that Carelia is a monarchy. The King or Queen and Council will have the final say on matters within their bailiwick.
  7. Nobles may protest the actions of the Council at their own discretion.
  8. There will be no looting without permission. While looting is legal in Carelia, looting our friends and allies is not.
  9. While looting in general is legal, the more extreme forms of looting can often have diplomatic consequences and should not be used without instruction. Rape (or giving orders to rape) is never allowed under any circumstances.
  10. There will be no dealings with the black market.

Region Lords:

  1. Region Lords have the right to build temples and guildhalls within their region as they choose.
  2. Region Lords have the right to permit or deny preaching within their region.
  3. Region Lords should not tear down any existing Recruitment Centers, Scouts Guilds, Halls of Healing, or other paraphernalia centres without seeking input from the Council and Court.
  4. Region Lords hold the rights to the food produced within their regions and are entitled to receive payment in exchange for it. (This is not a license to seek profit at the expense of the realm, however; Carelia’s needs must be met first. Food distribution and sales should be coordinated with the Banker.)
  5. Under no circumstances will any food be sold to enemies of Carelia. This will be considered treason.

Note: These Rights and Responsibilities cannot account for every possible circumstance that may arise. The absence of an action from this list does not render one immune from potential punishment.

Trials and Punishment

Conflict Resolution: In disputes between two or more nobles of the realm, any party may request the assistance of the Judge in resolving the matter. The Judge will request information from all parties and attempt to mediate. Failing resolution, the Judge will make a ruling on the matter. If a more formal procedure is requested, and the matter is of sufficient severity or importance, the Judge may open a public trial.

Punishments: Violations of these laws (or engaging in other criminal or anti-social actions) will be punished. Punishments are at the discretion of the Judge and may range from a warning to a fine to banishment from the realm.

Treason is punishable by death.
