Avamar (Realm)/Banner

The banner of Avamar is of Red Colour. Red, represents the blood that have been shed to protect the Islands from the brutal attacks of Old Rancagua. It is also the hottest of the warm colours, indicating the warmth that Avamarians embrace their homeland, their fellow brothers in arms, their ideals and above anything else the virtue of PEACE.

The deep red used in the particular banner has inspired poets of Avamar and the following verses are often sung by the citizens of the Island:

The people's flag is deepest red,

It shrouded oft our martyr'd dead And ere their limbs grew stiff and cold,

Their hearts' blood dyed its ev'ry fold.

Then raise the scarlet standard high,

Within its shade we'll live and die, Though cowards flinch and traitors sneer,

We'll keep the red flag flying here.

Look round,

the Rancaguans shivers at its blaze, The sturdy Perdanites chants its praise, In Kalmar's vaults its hymns are sung,

Sirion swells the surging throng.

It waved above our infant might

When all ahead seemed dark as night; It witnessed many a deed and vow,

We must not change its colour now.

It well recalls the triumphs past;

It gives the hope of peace at last: The banner bright, the symbol plain,

Of human right and human gain.

It suits today the meek and base,

Whose minds are fixed on pelf and place, To cringe before the invaders frown

And haul the sacred emblem down.

With heads uncovered swear we all

To bear it onward till we fall. Come dungeon dark or gallows grim,

This song shall be our victory hymn.

The Raised Black Fist holding a Scale was taken by old Avamar's banner to represent that the real power in Avamar Selective belongs to the individual nobles that lives here. When the fist of the people is raised, there is nothing in the world that can stop them. Their voice is a law. Their demand is an order. Every noble is equal and have the same rights as justice is our true ruler. Thus the scale of justice was assigned in the realm's banner to embedd in the flag the values of equity and justice.

Finally the Black colour of the Fist was selected to indicte the lack of any kind of discrimination in Avamar Selective, based on individual's beliefs, thoughts, past, actions, but as well as racial characteristics like colour, race, nationality or birthplace. It is really amusing though that there are serious nobles around (the PM of Sirion included) believing that the colour and the fist are nothing more than manifestations of a legendary organization, named Black Hand that operated long ago in West Sirion and it is rumored that was involved in may revolutionary and evil actions in the continent. As Lalakis Abandonas, former Chancellor of the allied Kalmar Islands, is the only known person that once belonged to this organization, the enemies of the Islands have found a scapegoat to channel their warmongering anger and turn against 100 nobles that live in the Islands.
