Description

Located south of Isadril, Tota is a valuable asset to the Duchy. The busy port town of Amaranthine bustles with the trade of bounties from the sea. The small merchant town of Gwaren is the first sight of many travelers making their way to bring goods to Isadril from the south lands. To the north lies the industrial center of Highever, where skilled smiths labor tirelessly to ensure that the sons and daughters of Tota are equipped to defend their homeland.

Dominating the skyline of the port is the Amaranthine Keep, situated on one side of the harbor mouth, so as to prevent raids or attacks from the sea.  The Keep and town get their name from the distinctive purple hue created from the crushing of sea snails native to the area and used widely as a dye in textile making.  The production of this dye, and it's relatively safe location close to Isadril has led to the economic prosperity of the region.  The constant foot traffic on the road from Amaranthine to Highever and on to Isadril sees requires a near constant military presence in the region to protect the merchants and peasants from predatory bandits and other highwaymen.

Tota's dependence on mercantile pursuits and sea trade has led to a growing merchant class that provide both opportunities, and sometimes headaches, to the local Lord and Knights.  Near constant bickering and jostling for power among the rival trade families sometimes requires the attention of the local nobility to settle disputes. or risk grinding the great machine that supplies Isadril of many of its trade goods to a halt.  It is for this reason that the Lordship of Tota is a well-regarded position, often given to trusted or experienced Nobles capable of managing the varied interests and issues of the locals.
