Suville Icon.png What will Duke Martok do with the Duchy of Narville?
It is well known, at least among nobles of Abington, that Duchess Callisto intends to secede the duchy of Suville from Abington. It is also well-known that Duke Martok also intends to leave the realm with the duchy of Narville. However, will Duke Martok secede Narvile and create his own realm? Or will he instead switch allegiance to Callisto's newly founded Kingdon? Some speculators believe that Martok wishes to create his own realm, and while that may be true, it causes some serious issues. On the practical side of things, Narville is the smallest duchy of Abington. In addition to the city, it carries with it only one townsland and one rural region. While this may provided a decent sum of tax resources, it is no where near enough to feed itself. Trade is always an option, of course, but the rate at which food will need to be brought into the duchy far exceeds the likely percentage of traders amongst their nobles. In addition to geographic concerns, there is also the matter of religion. Aristoi Atamarism was founded in Washford and maintains a huge percentage of peasants followers in both the Suville and Narville duchies. It is not expected that the Aristoi will be able to maintain its grip on the Stoneville or Riverholm duchies due to the fact that neither duchy is commanded by a member of the Aristoi, and Caergoth (i.e. the Wayburg duchy) solidly follows the Hammer. However, both Suville and Narville are dependent upon the Aristoi for their ability to improve morale and loyalty amongst the peasants. To divide the Aristoi between two realms greatly diminishes their ability to do so, especially in Narville since most of the Elders of the Aristoi are based in Suville.
But most importantly, is the matter of marriage. Duchess Callisto is married to Trager, the Marquis of Dampinn, a region of Narville. Furthermore, Aeryn Arete, the former Countess of Washford who is anticipated to be the Judge of Suville, is engaged to be married to Damian, the Count of Dorton, the other region of Narville. It is unlikely these individuals will allow politics to jeopardize their romance, especially when they each have the power to have their cake and eat it too. In other words, if Narville secedes instead of switching allegiance to Suville, it is likely that Dampinn and Dorton will switch allegiance on their own, reducing the realm of Narville to a single city, completely surrounded by a realm of far superior strength. It is simply unfeasible for Martok to secede, despite what his personal wishes may be.
