Soniel Townsland is one of the two main entry-points to the Dark Isle (the other being [[Far East/Ecsetuah|Ecsetuah]]) and is appropriately guarded and fortified. It has been the landing point for many invasion attempts by Arcachon's enemies, including the [[Highland Empire]]. It should be noted that these invasions were all turned back, and in fact the Highland Empire is no more. The religion of Soniel is Adgharhinism.

The Fortified Town of Soniel, is a coastal Port with a good harbor and modest town walls protected by towers. They provide some protection for the town but it is the soldiers of Archaon that man those walls who are the true defense of that realm. To the north of the town the highway stretches northwards through Rrerat to the capitol of Enlod. The town itself faces south across the narrow straits that separate the island from the mainland region of Unotosa.

The town of Soniel is first and foremost a military Base. It holds a central fortified Headquarters and Administration area, surrounded by many barracks. These barracks are mostly empty until wartime when they will fill with militia and visiting troops. The harbor itself is protected by two stone towers built on two opposing piers projecting out to sea. Each tower holds a catapult and several ballistae for repelling attacking ships. The western tower flies the flag of Soniel and the eastern tower flies the flag of Arcachon. In bad weather a fire beacon is built on each tower to guide ships home.

The Temple of the Anvil

The temple quarter of the town is clean and tidy. All men there talk quietly and behave with decorum on pain of flogging by the temple guards and roving flagellants who patrol it. Any man foolish enough to draw sword there would be ripped apart by an outraged mob of believers within seconds. There are four cool gardens tended by priests and pious believers, for use by the public. One is for families, one is for quiet contemplation, one for religious debate, and one is for the serving of water and food to weary pilgrims of Adgharhinism. The “Temple of the Anvil” is itself a small stone affair with a wide courtyard where low ranking worshippers can pray. In the center of the courtyard is a great stone Anvil, ten cubits high.
