Interview with Gabriel Bachelor, former King of Abington,

It's not often a journalist has a chance to interview such an influential and charismatic person. I was elated when Gabriel Bachelor, former King of Abington agreed to an interview session for the Revealer. We met up at the Sullenport Stout Brewery & Restaurant for some barbeque and beers. Both were excellent as usual, but the discussion itself was unforgettable.

RedSpan Revealer (RR): What did you enjoy most about your time as King of Abington?

Gabriel Bachelor (GB): On a personal side, becoming King of Abington was an achievement I never dreamed of. The youngest of the Bachelor House became higher then any of his brothers. The price of the crown is high; it demands a lot of sacrifices and abdication, but if you manage to achieve your goal, it becomes exceedingly rewarding. I believe this was what I most enjoyed as king: being able to fullfill what I dreamed of and being recognized by my people as a good leader.

(RR): What was your least favorite part about being a King?

(GB): Some decisions and sacrifices I was forced to make. My marriage with Morathi was completely negleted, for example... It is also very frustrating to deal with egotistical rulers which makes diplomacy very unpleasent. I thank the heavens that I had to deal with just a few rulers like this. But still an unpleasant experience.

(RR): Reflecting on your whole career in Abington, what accomplishment(s) are you most proud of? Why?

(GB): Most certainly it was working together with Carelia and Redspan to create the Federation that embraces us today. The early days of my career in Abington were spent trying to defend Lamar and the "dragon" Redspan from an overwhelming coalition of realms allied against us (the NA). My dream as king was to rebuild these lost alliances and keep the wars away from the south. For years these southern realms had been fighting against each other for the sake of third parties. We were always involved in proxy wars which only weakened us while others collected the rewards.

This Federation is an attempt to create stability and peace in the south, and to spare our people from further suffering. If the south is to fight, it will be for what _we_ believe, for what _we_ want, not to satisfy the whims of a distant realm or because of old quarrels started by third parties.

Today we are facing a great challenge. Some realms on Atamara do not wish to see us united, realms that stand to profit from our division. We are fighting to be respected, to be accepted as a union. To exist.

If I, in any way, managed to help Redspan regain what they had lost in the first war, if together with the great king Manaydur I was capable of restoring the trust and the relations our realms had prior to that war, if I was able to help the Carelian people in any way (they recovered what they lost in the wars fought against them due to King Paradigm's actions) and spare them all of future suffering, I would say this is what I am most proud of.

(RR): Any future plans you'd care to share?

(GB): Having a heir is one of them! (laughs) Politically, I just plan on continuing to do everything possible to preserve this federation we have and work for a better future for all of us.

(RR): What do you like and/or respect most about RedSpan and its people? Why?

(GB): Their bravery and courage. Redspan was _never_ afraid to fight against greater odds. They do not blame others for decisions they made that harmed them, even if it was a joint decision with another realm. The Redspanians are sure of their future, of their destiny; they accept it and face it. No regrets, no throwing away responsibilities; no drama or whining.

(RR): Which Pillar of Da Way (no soap, no shaving, no pants, drink alot, and no shiny stuff) is most appealing to you? Why?

(GB): It will be "drink alot" most surely! But when you are with a gorgeous woman, the "no pants" pillar is very appealing too! (laughs)

(RR): Especially since it applies to the women as well!

(both laugh)

Victory In Byblack!

Yesterday, (15th) a small force of Redspan nobles attacked a group of ASI troops in Byblack and were victorious. Malice, the High Marshal of Ash Sea Islands, Baron of Mapo was wounded during the fight. Unfortunately Uther, Count of Bolgar was captured during the ensuling fight. After the battle, words were exchanged between the two opposing sides. Jonny count of Byblack, threatend that we would lose Rogeshore as well. As well as what? What has ASI got planned?

Infiltrator's Attack!

Word has come through that an infiltrator has tried to assinate the King of Abbington. Just when peace talks were going on, an infiltrator acting on orders or his own behalf tried to take Carriantor out of the negotation table. It seem that our adversairies up north may not want peace. Maybe they like to send their troops off to fight on a land that even their own peasents do not know of. It is a shame that their families will not be able to visit their graves.

Da One Promotes Nagash

After the region of Meldeen has sworn its alleigence back to Redspan, a vision came to King Ry2n during the night. It was Da Great Goat, who told the King to make Nagash Count of Meldeen, so he did. Nagash has been a great member of Redspan, loyal and trustworthy to the end, and has been rewarded for his services with Meldeen. With Meldeen almost under our full control and with the peasents growing their beads back inch by inch every day, our eyes turn towards the north in anticipation, knowing that something is brewing up their. Will the attack come from Falsan/ASI or CE/Tara/Darka? Only time will tell.
