Recent Events in the Colonies

Winter Solstice

A frigid wind blows across the plains as the sun sets on the shortest day of the year. Tonight, of all nights, it seems much harder than usual to keep a fire burning...and the fire that do burn seem to give little relief from the biting cold.

The cold seems the most bitter in the lands around the Arakir, and somehow strikes deeper than mere flesh. In the byres, the sheep cluster together tightly, and in the distance, wolves begin to howl.

Then another sound starts to drift faintly on the wind. It's nearly inaudible, and easy, at first, to mistake for sticks or leaves being blown along with the gale, but the longer it goes on, the harder it is to deny that what are hearing is the dry clack and rattle of bones.

Hundreds of them.

Awakening

As dawn approaches on the first day of the new year, the slumber of those across the Colonies is disturbed by dreams of mocking laughter.

For those in Lukon and its environs, standing guard for the last watch of the old year, the laughter is chillingly real, and draws their eyes eastward.

There, in the twisted spires of long-dark Arak Castle, an eldritch green glow flickers to life.
